i think fletcher has a bright future, i have seen him in the reserves prior to his senior stint, and he inpressed me.

as for o'shea well i never doubted him, first match i saw him i thought what an excellent defender, calm good on the ball can be a threat along the flanks if he plays there with crosses passes.............

and im awaiting the return of ole gunnar solskjaer, he is one of my favorite longtime players :D

i actually like houllier and he seems to be the only manager in the last oooooh 12 years or so that has managed to get liverpool winning things....
as for the real reds bit we were playing in red before liverpool were even formed.....that doesnt matter though coz we look better and nastier in black , and the red devil badge suits us (liverpool seem to have some sort of chicken on their badge)

Louis Saha will be given United's number 9 shirt if he completes his transfer from Fulham. The legendary shirt has been vacant since Andy Cole left for Blackburn in December 2001, but will be worn by the Frenchman if the move goes through. Saha said: "It's a fantastic honour to wear the shirt and I hope I can be a success like those who have worn it in the past."

Anyone hear Paddy Crerands comments this afternoon on skysports after the united game.
Paddy was the guest summariser in the studio with Richard keys. After he had finished talking about the United and Northampton game, they showed the goals from the other cup ties, everton/fulham and city/spurs.
Keys asked him what City should do as they havent won a game in 16 matches. Paddy replied "Not interested, you didn`t invite me on this programme to talk about City"
It was very funny, Keys and Andy Gray looked stunned.
Paddy was a great player and I was priveleged to watch him play in the 60`s, he`s still definitely a red through and through.

dutch striker ruud van nistelrooy, has signed a new contract keeping him at manchester united untill 2008.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...td/3440365.stm

well i am delighted that he has resigned, having watched him at PSV before the big clubs went after him gives me great pleasure that he can continue to play at man utd.

meanwhile sir alex ferguson has signed a new 1 year 'rolling' contract.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/foot...td/3436369.stm

i hope he can continue the success he has achieved at man utd, for more then the 1 year he has signed.

and more good news, ole gunnar solskjaer is set to return in a reserve game on febuary the 5th, it was feared he was to sit out the rest of the season but he has been training for the past 2 weeks.

That's alright by me - you can merge my thread and get it all into one footie thread :) .

Oh, and Atomic - don't forget that you said we could win one against your boys at some point :naughty:

Re: Football talk

I remember it very well even though I was only 10 at the time, only a few months later a tragedy struck my family . My mother had a childhood illness that left her with a damaged heart, she spent a prolonged amount of time in hospital during our early childhood. She had been in a hospital in West Kirby for almost 12 months and was due to come home. My father who was aged 31, took the afternoon of work and was on his way home on his motorcycle when he was killed instantly in a road accident. My mother never did see him again and was soon back in hospital, myself and my two younger brothers had to go into care.
So whenever the early part of the year comes round and the Munich disaster is remembered it is a doubly sad time for me.:(

Om a lighter note, my mother had a plastic heart valve fitted over 35 years ago and apart from the usual ravages of time is a lively 78 year old.:)

Thanks for your kind words, time is a great healer and I am glad to say that all three brothers have been successful in our chosen careers, despite being in care.

I do sometimes get angry when something like that is used as an excuse for deliquent behaviour.

Your post was both tragic & inspiring, iadom. Tragic to have lost your father at such an early age and to have had to go into care. Inspiring, in that you, your brothers & your mother overcame the adversity and went on to lead successful lives.

I totally agree about what you said about using being in care as an excuse, people who do that, imo, think of themselves as 'victims', - something you & your brothers obviously rose above. Thankyou for sharing your thoughts.
