Seems to be a mix of The Offce and Red Dwarf. I shall give it another go to see how things develop.

I chuckled my way through it rather than laughing out loud particularly .... but I thought it was good and I'll definitely watch it again. Prolly on Wednesday nights instead now, seeing as Lost is finished.

Does the new series of Battlestar Galactica rock or what?

IMO this is one of the best series to have come out in recent years.

The next few episodes are probably not going to help. Having watched the first 12, there are good and bad. There's a lot of "save the teenage girl" in the first few, which got a bit boring.

The last episode of Threshold is on Tuesday.

It wasn't that bad, if a bit slow.

Cathrine Bell would have been cool to watch every week.

Latest snippets (okay, not all quite SF and Fantasy, but who cares ;))

David Jason is to star in a tv version of "Hogfather" which will be shown this xmas, it's being shot in HD format.

The film "Mr and Mrs Smith" is to be made into a series.

ITV are filming a new six part series called "Primaeval" about a bunch of time travelling scientists.

Spike TV has ordered 13 episodes of the new "Blade" series, based on the films.

A bit of sad news - Andreas Katsulas (G'Kar in Babylon 5) died of lung cancer on Feb 13th.

Finally Lucy Lawless is to return for 10 episodes in Battlestar Galatica Season three to carry on as the reporter she played in two episodes in Season 2.
Spoiler:
As revealed in S2, she is actually a cylon.

For a moment I thought he was going to be playing Death but thankfully not.Albert it is then...

As for Andreas Katsulas it is very sad.He was an excellent actor who was good at playing many different characters and not just SF.I remember him as the one armed man in The Fugitive remake film.

  • There are strong rumours that K9 and Sarah Jane Smith will star in a new Dr Who spin off series after their revival in the New Series 2.
  • Also in Dr Who, Peter Kay will play the part of "Victor Kennedy" in (S2) Episode 10.
  • Meanwhile the Tardis is apparently set to land in Albert Square during one episode.
  • In the other DW spinoff (Torchwood), Gwen Cooper has been picked for the lead female role.
  • On the Star Trek front - the planned ST 11 film has now apparently been scrapped.
  • Charmed has not been renwed for a ninth series, and the possible spin off series staring "Billy" also now seems to be a non starter.
  • ITV is planning a pilot episode of (another) remake of the Avengers.
  • A film version of 24 is due to start filming after S5 is wrapped up.
  • Season 3 of Battlestar Galatica is going to be largely based on "New Caprica" and the occupation resistance. There will also be an ongoing Cylon story, with visits to the Cylon homeworld for the first time.
  • The spin off Star Wars series is still set to go ahead, with the first episodes in 2008.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

  • The planned ST 11 film may now happen after all - set as a prequel to the original series.
  • Keifer Sutherland has signed up for three more series of 24 (series 6, 7 & 8).
  • Agent Woolsey from Stargate is set to appear in 10 episodes of the sister series Atlantis (series 3).
  • Channel 4 has nipped in and secured the terrestrial rights to the last series of Charmed, ahead of Channel 5.

Invasion has not been picked up for a second season, neither (as mentioned elsewhere) has Surface or Threshold.

Supernatural has been picked up for a another season, so has Bones, Lost, 24, the Unit and the Simpsons.

As mentioned before, Stargate SG1, Atlantis and Battlestar Galatica all return as well.

JJ Abrams of LOST fame has also been attached to write and direct. The rumour about it being a prequel pretty much dismissed though, because of Enterprise. Also based on what I've seen ratings DID improve quite dramatically for season 4, so why wasn't it renewed? The last episode with Riker etc was crap but other than that it was a solid season that would hold it's own against any other Trek...

Enjoying Blade so far, it's quite similar to the later films.

Also watched the early pilot for another series called Heroes - about a group of people all across the world who suddenly develop extraordinary powers. This wasn't too bad and has potential, it was a bit slow in parts though.

Does the Blade series ignore the end of the last movie then, seeing as there should be no more vampires after the events of Trinity?

Wouldn't mind watching it. Although I doubt anyone could do a better Blade than Snipes.

Heroes - heard a bit about that. Some people are calling it "the new Lost" apparently.

I didn't realise all vampires were wiped out, if so, then it's safe to say it ignores that. The actor is a very good Blade, tho possible not as good as Snipes.

Well, the events of Trinity suggest there shouldn't be any vampires left afterwards, although perhaps it took some time.

I had a look at the wikipedia entry for the Blade series, it says it's "nominally" a continuation of the movies. I guess it's a similar thing to the Highlander movies & TV series.

The Blade series has been created by the guy (David Goyer) who wrote all three Blade movies (& directed no.3), so should be a good portrayal of Blade.

Anyway. I love the Blade movies, so I think I'll have a look for the series :)

Oh yee of little faith, apparently the main stumbling block is that NBC want a 3 hour movie and Kenneth Johnson wants a 4 hour film, however now that he has finished the book and it is going on sale January 2007 it stands to reason that they will compromise, after all the screen plays are already done.

Thats around the time It normally starts on sky each year so I see no reason to doubt that one. Though I am currently watching them from the states so luckily I dont have to wait until the mid season break.
Atlantis hasnt been brilliant so far but is still very good, there just havent been any ground breaking storylines yet, though there have been some very funny ones.
SG-1 is ten times better than it was last year, Its a bit darker and the storylines seem to be much better written so thats made a big difference.

I've watched Atlantis since the start, but have only just got back into SG1 now, having not seen it since season 5.

Read up on what I missed (only season 9 in depth though, as it seems most things got resolved by the end of season 8, & 9 was a fresh start), then started watching season 10, along with Atlantis s3.

Impressed so far :tu:

Vala is great. Nice to see Farscape's Claudia Black.

Currently acquiring seasons 8 & 9 of SG1, & I'm thinking of buying the DVD boxes for seasons 1-7.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

They've been anticipating the end each season for a few years now.

They thought it would end when Showtime cancelled it after season 5, but then SCIFI picked it up.

Then, later, the makers were going to finish with season 7, do a movie, and then concentrate on Atlantis. But, as it got picked up for an 8th season, they turned the movie idea into the season 7 "Lost City" finale.

Then, thinking season 8 would be the last one, they tied up most storylines in that (Go'auld, Replicators, etc). Yet it was then picked up for a 9th season, causing them to give it a fresh start with some new characters & enemies.

It's already had various reprieves. It had to end sometime. Besides, it's on its 10th season! I think the makers have said for a while that they want to carry on with a movie(s) after the show ended.

I actually quite enjoyed it, though I also enjoyed the 100th episode wormhole extreme wich had a similar feel to it.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

E100 actually had a reasonable storyline to back it up, E200 just seemed completely disjointed and self indulgent. I'm sure it was fun to make, and great for those involved, but to me, as a fan of the series proper, I found it to be a waste of an episode.

I hear there will be some more babylon 5 - well 3x30min shows straight to dvd to begin with. Each show will centre around one charater.

So be on the look out for Babylon 5 : The Lost Tales....

In the memory of shadows was pulled mainly because JMS wouldn't replace the cast with more 'famous' people. And I doubt he will replace the dr(or zathras if he was in the new stories) with another actor, I suspect the dr will just not be in it.

Mind you I think I'll wait 'till I've seen this one until I pass judgement.

After a week off, Stargate SG-1 season 10 & Stargate Atlantis season 3 are back on tonight in the US (episode 8 of each), so should be available in the usual places afterwards.

Yeah, they're only back for three weeks though, then they take a mid-season break until 2007.

its likely that sg1 and atlantis will be shown on sky1 before 2007 so u wont have to wait that long for your new episodes.

also its possible a canadian hd channel will show it before then as well

For the last couple of years, Sky have started showing them around November, and then had a 3 or 4 week break over Christmas :)

Sky have never been in front of the US - they timed it last year so that they caught up (i.e the later episodes were shown here a few days after their US Friday night appearance) the same will most likely happen again this year.

Indeed, they did that for Atlantis last year, so we caught them way ahead of both the UK and the US. They didn't show SG1 though.

Thats not true, the second halves of season 6,7 and 8 where all shown in the UK 1 week in advance of the Americans. Though the first half of each of those seasons where shown in the states several months in advance of the UK.

Re: Science Fiction, Fantasy, and other Snippets

Something that I've been thinking about re Stargate SG-1 season 10:

Spoiler:
The Ori:

OK, so they have a Supergate, or perhaps Supergates, to send their battlecruisers through from their galaxy to the Milky Way. Fair enough.

But... why the hell don't they just send a load of ships from their galaxy to ours via hyperspace?

I mean, surely they have the technology.

They're pretty equivalent to the Ancients, & the Ancients originally travelled from their home galaxy (which is also the Ori home galaxy) to the Milky Way, via ship(s) with intergalactic hyperdrives, millions of years ago, & then went from the Milky Way to Pegasus via Atlantis & its intergalactic drive.

Hell, even the Asgard, who aren't at the level of the Ancients & Ori, have got ships capable of intergalactic travel, & can easily travel from their galaxy to the Milky Way & back. And they have also given this tech to the SGC to use in the Daedalus-class ships, so now even humans can travel via hyperspace from one galaxy to another.

Or am I just thinking about this too much?

I believe the explanation is....
Spoiler:
The Ori galaxy is supposedly so far away that even with intergalactic hyperdrives as advanced as the Ori can build it would still take months or even years to travel the great distance required.
I think it is also down to the fact that Ori battleships can only be produced by primative humans, so allthough it is possible for them to build such a thing as an intergalactic drive it is actually simpler to use an intergalactic gate instead.

from what i can make out SG Atlantis S03E11 will air in Canada on Movie Central on 23rd of October.
SG-1 S10E11 will most likely air on 3rd of January on Sky One in UK.

We will have 5 more eps of SGA from Canada this year, and the last 5 of season 3 in January and the second part of SG-1 S10 from January till March from UK

Not strictly SF, but is based on Frank Miller's "300" about the Spartans, so tenuous link :-)

Trailer looks amazing

Some recent news from the US ;
  • Blade has been cancelled after one season.
  • Eureka has been picked up for a second season.
  • Heroes has been confirmed for a full first season.
  • Kidnapped has been cancelled after 13 episodes.
Vanished is only doing moderately well, while Jericho has got off to a good start (both are good btw). The second series of the Unit is doing well, while another good newbie, Justice, doesn't seem to be doing fantastically in the ratings.

In all, there are plenty of good shows on in the US atm - and most of them will be over here at some point.

Yes, it's quite entertaining, and also one of the Sci-Fi channels most successful programmes atm, there was no doubt it was going to get picked up. The second season will be another 13 episodes (like the first season).

It's been confirmed that Stargate SG1 will continue with two direct-to-DVD movies after the 10th & final season has ended. They may also air on TV.

The first will tie-up the Ori story, & other loose ends from season 10.

So Newline don't want Peter Jackson to do The Hobbit. Personally I think this is a shame, although it does look like it will get made by a different person (and a prequel between the hobbit and fellowship)
