There's no app in this case, some Sony TVs now have YouView built in to them. It provides the EPG with the ability to time travel and to access the catch-up services this way. There is a separate generic YouView app which facilitates remote recording and provides a handheld EPG.

I had a quick look at the Curzon Home Cinema app, I saw a trailer for Still Alice, a movie I wanted to see and hadn't realised was available now.

£4 for 48hrs rental in 720p HD, cheaper than Virgin Movies HD version at £4.99 or a penny more than the SD version on Virgin Movies.

This is what I was talking about:

but the good news is that thankfully Sony will soon have this problem covered pretty comprehensively by its YouView system (once it’s been added via an over-the-air firmware update). This will open up all the joys of YouView, including catchup services for many Freeview channels and an inspired backwards EPG system that lets you scroll back to access on-demand programmes you may have missed.

Obviously we haven’t been able to test Sony’s implementation of YouView yet, but aside from some questions over how it will integrate/sit alongside Android, there doesn’t seem to be any reason to expect that it will be any thing other than a very welcome addition to Sony’s smart TV offering. Especially as it will provide regular TV users with a much simpler way into the joys of on-demand video content than the Android system.

Don't think that's too bad really, spent a pleasant few minutes watching some trailers. I could see myself spending some money there, very pleased with that being added to the tivo

Yes, we're talking about the same thing, a firmware up(date) as oppose to an ap(plication). :) Presumably the YouView software will replace Sony's Freeview EPG. YouView is a very good design and with an Android option too, Sony has made a couple of good decisions.

ITV has confirmed that ITV Cymru Wales HD will ONLY be in Wales areas of Virgin Media from August 25th.

The current ITV HD service from transmitters in Wales (on Freeview channel 103) will become ITV Cymru Wales HD.

Viewers in Wales watching via Sky, Freesat and Cable will also receive ITV Cymru Wales HD.

We think The Store and ITV4 +1 will use the BT Showcase slot on Freeview over night (12am to 8am) from August 25th as it not broadcasting any thing right now.

Except you seemed to suggest it was already available on some Sony TV's. I don't follow this closely, but I didn't think it had been released yet.

Yes, I don't think BT welcome the publicity given to this aspect of their channel's launch! I think this is a quiet behind the scenes deal that most of the public will miss, giving the impression that the channel is available only through BT.

I wouldn't be surprised if the channel was launched on VM after BT the launch date.

Well we shall see but don't get your hopes up OB as that has a habit of backfiring.

Planning to have one of the Sony Android TV's in the next couple of weeks so I'll let you know what it can and can't do.

I have an earlier Bravia (2014) with the Linux OS. I'll be interested if they've fixed the media player.

Maybe they'll roll out Android for us as well.

You're correct, the sets are due to have their software updated in "Summer 2015" so any day soon. :). I saw some sets in Argos with descriptions that suggested to me it had already arrived but this is a bit premature.
