I see yer point bud,but I've noticed only new channels appearing on vm these days are extra chargeable channels ie Netflix, premier sport 3,4 and 5 in hd and f1 and there as been rumours regarding amazon prime.
Where are universal hd,history hd and Disney hd channels just to name a few, these would be channels that would be included and cost vm to get rather then pass costs on to us customers same would be for sky Atlantic.personally I have been disappointed since lg took over all I'm seeing is price rises.
Hopefully I'm wrong but let's look again in December and see what new channels have arrived.:(

Other than SA and the HD variants, what other "freebies" do you want in terms of channels?

Don't really think there freebies bud, think the xl pack needs a bit of beefing up that's all

I don't think the uptake of those with partial/very poor eyesight for subscription TV service would be too high. If I couldn't see very well, I know I wouldnt pay for a service I couldn't use.

Sight impaired people watch just as much television as non sight impaired people. Anything that can be done to help those less fortunate than ourselves can only be a good thing. Anybody can become disabled within the blink of an eyelid and most people will become disabled at some point in their life, so it really is to everybodys benefit to take time to think about how those with varying disabilities can be helped.

As I understood, the optional £5 fee will give people the HD versions of the channels available on the M, M+ and L TV packages.

This wouldnt change your XL TV price, I wouldn't have thought, as like you say, we have all the HD channels anyway.

The details as you describe are correct and were discussed before LG bought VM. I haven't heard anything at all about this since the takeover though.

Technically Sky aren't witholding SA, but have put such a high price on it that means that effectively they are pricing it out of the market for other broadcasters.

I posted the figures some time ago on here, don't have them to hand now but IIRC most channels receive pennies per week from the subscription fees, wheras SA worked out at well over £1 a week.

And yet its still only available on Sky. Let them know your findings.

I did a calculation before that showed that if Sky Atlantic was available on the same platforms that Sky 1 is, it would be equal in viewers to Sky Living. Not bad for a relatively new channel. (Of course, not being available on VM, TalkTalk and UPC means its viewing figures are lower.)

No idea if this is true as it's a new source, only time will tell.

It's not been decided yet by VM or Ofcom. More details, discussion and how to make your views known to Ofcom about this proposal can be found here:

Yeah, it probably does need beefing up, but, If they are not freebies, surely VM will have to charge extra anyway? Unless I am mistaken, Sky still charge £10 a month for all HD channels, with VM it bundled into the price of XL and the £7 premium for sports and movies. In theory, now we have the SS HD channels, we will still need to pay £3 extra a month to get all the missing HD channels alone.

I am happy to be proved wrong on this thought, but I fail to see why VM should take a loss to offer us something they probably need to pay for.

VM need to offer the best value to all its customers (not just Xl) and it is doing great things with the lower packages. I guess they just can't afford to give us anything with the current prices.

Not trying to picky (he says failing horribly), just trying to understand your thought process on this matter.:)

An interesting thought Harry.

IIRC, didn't the Sky HD charge go up to about £10.50ish?? Also, I think that those who want HD, but don't take the premiums, can now have the basic channels in HD for £5.25??

Thinking about it, they might be able to do so. Don't get me wrong, I would love for the channels to launch, but I can't see it happening with out a price rise.

All sky have to do is price the channel so high it will not be taken up by other broadcasters. Far as i am concerned they can keep it. If VM get it then it should be an add on channel that way only those who want it pay for it.

We are all just guessing bud, could say the same about the other channels I have mentioned on my previous post,I know sky have there faults but sometimes I think vm are quite happy for customers to blame sky for lack of certain channels which may/could be there fault.
I am totally un bias as I have both all thou i am reducing my tv provided by vm to keep sky personally far superior choice of hd channels, demand in my view but no TiVo.Broadband for vm all the way can't be beaten in my eyes.

The question was about Sky Atlantic Howard but to broaden the debate unbiasedly can you really say that Virgins TV line up ain't up to Skys TV line up anymore and with your hand on your heart with Virgin offering BT Sports on the XL pack and Netflix to those who want it and then add on the opportunity to take Virgins sport season ticket for £150 for ten months and its never been so good for those who subscribe to Virgin.
