Totally depends on the source. HD streaming on BBC iPlayer is a lovely picture and I'd say rivals cheaper HD channels like 5 HD for quality. Your comparing Lovefilm to broadcast HD when Lovefilm don't offer HD streaming.

Sorry but iplayer HD isn't a patch on a 5HD native HD broadcast , the BBC is in 720p

If you'd mentioned bitrate you might have had a point but all you've mentioned is the resolution. The difference between 1080i and 720p is very very little.

I have a 1080p 42" TV and can say with 100% conviction that a programme like Neighbours on 5HD looks far superior to say Eastenders on iplayer HD , even if there both naff :D

BBC iplayer HD bit rate 3.2mb

http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcintern...dds_highe.html

Couldn't find 5HD however here's ITV1 HD on freesat 9-10mb

I'm sure ITV invest more in PQ than Channel 5's entire budget is.

You are joking right on satellite ITV1 SD was dreadful just read the forums , back to Zantarous point , streaming will have to vastly improve to be considered an acceptable alternative to linear broadcast HD.

People's internet connections will have to change first. Unless they're with VM of course.

As far as I know, as long as you have a speed of 4 or 5Mb/s, you can stream in 1080p HD as this is the recommended speed for Zune on the Xbox 360.
Obviously if you are using wireless, this speed may be impacted a little (or a lot) depending on location of the router.

A lot of UK connections should be able to handle it, unless there is high use of bandwidth within the house (such as more than 3 people online at once)

Yes an excellent point , not just speeds though traffic management look at a VM 10mb connection between 4-9pm the downstream is 1.5gb before your throttled not great if your streaming a HD movie

But I do agree Lovefilm in HD and services like Netflix would be an ok addition.

Any news on Premiersports? Rumour on a sports forum is that they are to launch on Virgin on 10th August.

Interesting reading Sky bracing for a growth slowdown http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/broadcas...-slowdown.html

Could be interesting times ahead, maybe even trying to get their channels on as many platforms as possible.

Interesting read also reported here http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2...ns-of-slowdown

Another possible blow for Sky

Should benefit the Market overall though.

"Sky anytime on Virgin media
Just so that everyone knows, Virgin Media is to get near enough full access to sky anytime on demand so you get all the good stuff from sky 1 sky living etc also if you have movies & or sports you get full access to on demand films and sport content there is a catch tho you need to be on xl television package but since most TiVo customers are then its a added benefit on your new box https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/local/2011/07/6.gif there is some content on there just now the rest is still to come."

Anybody else have more information about this post, allegedly by a VM staff member, from the Virgin support forum?
