Of course, it must be Sky's fault. Is there a slight possibility it could be VM trying to get extra money from their customers.

Yes their is at least a slight possibility. Bearing in mind that people on lower packages didn't get tv choice for free it seems unlikely though. I think they charged something like £7 and they could have just charged more if they wanted more money. I would think it is quite possible that programme makers didn't like their programmes being on lower tiers. Remember as well that Sky tried to stop VM having Sky 1 on their lower tiers. So it does seem possible that Zantarous is right.

Yes this could be a slight possibility?

But what i think it could be is due to all the content been shown on the VIRGIN PLAYER, TV CHOICE ON DEMAND AND MOBILE ( THREE SCREENS ), from what i have been reading this is all for XL customers as this quote is from the VIRGIN PLAYER FAQS:

I don't have Virgin TV XL. Can I add Virgin Media Player as a separate service?
Sorry, Player is only available to Virgin TV XL subscribers with Virgin Broadband.

To upgrade your Virgin TV to the XL package or check out our other offers, click here.

It could be a sign that XL viewers can look forward to better content on TV Choice On Demand, and that would be a good thing. However, it's a shame that lower tier subscribers cannot have access to the cheaper programmes. I would have thought that would make commercial sense to VM as well because as it stands, if customers on lower tiers are charged extra at present for TV Choice, now they will no longer benefit from that subscription.

Whatever the reasons behind it unless you are a top tier customer then the only on demand available will be catch up (which of course is freely available on a PC anyway) and PPV, hardly compelling given the technology behind it.

It seems crazy when Sky customers have their on demand content aligned to their subscription package. It isn't a very flexible way of doing things as some customers simply don't want XL, if they had wanted it surely they would have had it anyway rather than pay £7 extra for TVC.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2010) Vol. IV

My neighbour phoned CS today to try and add a channel for just 30 Days and obviously was told he'd need to change his package.
He was told by the CS agent that in January VM are changing the TV packages to give people greater choice on what channels they want.
Anybody else heard anything along these lines?

No I haven't but I would welcome a genre pack system.

I was only trying to guess what the reason for this been removed was? :erm:

Also i do feel for the customers that has subbed for the service and now it has been removed for them, i myself think that this is bad sense. But as previousley said this could be due to new carraige arrangements EG NBCU and also the SKY deals:confused:

I thought your reasoning was quite plausible but what's the point of gaining new content and then narrowing the available audience, particularly when on demand is such a unique part of VM's offering given the superior technology.

The suspicious side of me still thinks it could be a ruse to bleed more money out of customers though.

I do understand what you mean by the last comment as i have a lateral thinking about everything and can see what is going to happen with all the customers that have subbed to the service and it is wrong.
But also i am able to see the buisness side of this as they are trying to get more people to take up xl and also get them maybe to the 3 SCREENS service as they may have the BB and a MOBILE with VM so they will try and target this demographic:erm:

I totally agree with you, I am guessing it is a business decision. It always baffles me though when some quarters slate Sky for doing similar things.

But with this move and the way HD channels are mostly only available to XL customers it does seem they could possibly alienate a lot of customers, I hope not. The customer who raised this on the VM forum was fuming, as were others.
