A player is brought down denying a goal scoring opportunity, but a penalty is given which is a goal scoring opportunity, so the goal scoring opportunity isn't denied. Why should they be given a red card as well and punished twice? Anywhere else on the pitch where its not a goal scoring opportunity its a yellow card or just a foul, i don't know why that should change.

Many players have had a red card as the last man and not been in the box so no penalty given in those cases.;)

It was a penalty and so it then had to be a red card. However the rule is harsh. Both players went for the ball, there was no intent to foul, and the keeper tried to pull out of the challenge when the ball went out of reach. It is harsh to reduce a team to 10 men for that. It's not even as if the chance was that clear. I was behind the goal and thought Robben had already taken a shot.

Oh well. It is Munich. Might be worth resting some players for the away leg as we have Spurs the weekend after! Concentrate on the league and FA Cup.

The card display was cool. So glad it worked. Hope there are more stunts like that.

Watching the many replays it looked to me as though Robben would have got to the ball after nudging it past the keeper if he hadn't been clipped, the through ball was class though.

My impression was that he tried to knock it out of the way when he saw scez coming. His foot was quite high a he didn't have control of the ball, it was a bit too high and a bit too far. Doesnt really matter now, what's done is done and you've seen those given before so it's not like it was a massive injustice.

He didn't try to knock it out of the way , he succeeded in clipping it over the keepers leg but was then caught by the keeper as he followed through, nothing malicious but he did take him out and personally I think Robben would have got to the ball, there wasn't a lot of pace on it.

As with City last night, that second goal was a real blow.:(

and shouldn't have been sent of either unless a clear goal scoring opportunity was prevented, last man is irrelevant, it's all about goal scoring opportunities regardless of how many men are left.

l thought Bayern from a defensive point of view were very vulnerable.

Yes, then it should be a red card because there is no longer a clear goal scoring opportunity. Like I said, the ref made the right decision last night and in the city game, but in my opinion that rule is unfair and in both instances a yellow card and a penalty is a fair punishment.
