It's actually a cultural interpretation of the principle of modesty - nowhere in the Koran does it actually state that a veil must be worn.

Not sure I do. I mean if you went in there with a sawn-off shooter then yeah I can imagine you'd end up staring down the business end of an armed copper's handgun but just for covering your face? No chance.

Probably not. You wouldn't get on your flight but I doubt the armed response cops would bother putting down their coffee.
