Some really good action in it.

You need to suspend your belief in a good plot, and remember it was written a long time ago.

The plot has very little to do with the books by Edgar Rice Burroughs as the real storyline is much better only the names carry over to the movie and the pretext of being on Mars, I have read them a few times and I am presently reading them again.

Jurassic Park (BD)

I bought the Blu-ray of this in ASDA yesterday for only £7 [part of Universal's "100th Anniversary" range of releases and re-releases, all only £7 there].

It's been years since I last saw it. Goldblum and the kids are as annoying as I remember, but at least Goldblum has little to say or do for the 2nd half. The FX have held up quite well considering the film's age, and the whole thing looks great in 1080p24. The DTS soundtrack is brilliant.

8/10 for the film, 10/10 for the sound.

The Avengers ["Avengers Assemble"]

I saw this last night. I absolutely *loved* it. Awesome film.

Joss Whedon has created the best comic-book superhero film I have ever seen.

Brilliant action scenes, dialogue, and humour all through it. I spent most of the film with a massive grin on my face, and had to resist clapping several times. Myself and the rest of the audience laughed and cheered multiple times throughout the film.

10/10

Avengers (Avengers Assemble)

10/10 nothing at fault at all. In my eyes the best superhero/comic book movie ever. It was that good. Some really great moments and every character gets explored and used brilliantly. Ruffalo is also the best Banner/Hulk I've seen.

Fav quote was

Loki 'I have an army'
Stark 'We have a hulk'

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

One of the best scenes of that involves Loki and Hulk.

We saw it at out local Odeon "Liemax". A lot of the film did look really cool in 3d, especially the visual effects of Iron Man's HUD, flying scenes etc, but close up action sequences looked a bit blurry and couldn't see what was going on, so although I was glad we paid the extra, if you've seen it once in 2d, i wouldn't say it's worth paying out again.

Why have you referred to IMAX as liemax?

Because most Imax cinemas in England, aren't proper Imax screens :( They're a bit bigger and curver than the normal large screens, but real Imax is much much bigger

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

It's not really fake IMAX though as its an official IMAX screen and still a large screen. Glasgow isn't allowed to get a digital IMAX though as we have a n IMAX alady at the science centre and IMAX impose limits on how close screens can be.

Yep. I think it could have led more directly into the first film.

In ranking I'd go:

Alien - Aliens : Both superb and depending on my mood both are equal favourites
Prometheus - Very good, could easily stand on its own.
Alien 3 - Quite under rated. I liked it.
Alien Resurection - Not bad until the 'newborn' bit which killed the film stone dead.

Prometheus - Very good, could easily stand on its own.
Alien 3 - Quite under rated. I liked it.
Alien Resurection - Not bad until the 'newborn' bit which killed the film stone dead.
All the AVP tosh

Yes l have to admit the first was absolutely brilliant as it had that wonderful claustrophobic feel to it and yet the second was all action and that was good two and although 3 and 4 were very watchable its very hard to match the first two but l will watch Prometheus and will then give my humble opinion on it.

Prometheus

7/10

I went in with rather low expectations, but I actually quite liked it.

Not as good as Alien (or Aliens), but a hell of a lot better than Alien 3 and (especially) Alien Resurrection.

Fassbender was (as always) brilliant, and outshone the rest of the cast.

Very interesting premise and expansion of the "Alien universe". A bit short though. Many things could (should!) have been expanded upon. I hope that the BD/DVD release has a nice long Director's Cut...

Not quite what I expected but still very enjoyable and delves in to the back story of the universe a lot more. Still room for a sequel or two as well as it is still set years before Alien.

As above fassbender was great.

Don't expect lots of scares and running. It's more talking and exploring/explaining.

Don't think it was too short though. Running time is over 2 hours.

Re: Films for 2012

Prometheus 7/10

I was so looking forward to this film and I was disappointed. It's not a bad film, in its own right but it could have been better. Characterisation was lacking. I don't want to give too much away but people die, and I didn't care about any of them but one.

I watched that a couple of weeks ago.

The trailer made it look exciting.

The trailer lied :(

Excellent fight scenes, but unfortunately the rest of it was boring. Dull characters you don't give a crap about, dull story...
