I spoke to someone from VM, and they said it is to the discretion of each member of staff as to whether or not they offer you deals to keep you with them. It was quite shocking to hear, as customer should only receive offers that are advertised by VM, and not up to the person you are calling. |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Yes I take your point about the discretion but there is also the point that if a customer is rude and unpleasant on the phone to CS (and we've had people describing situations that prove this on CF) then why on Earth should VM or the representative offer a deal to someone like that?
Small point I know but it shows discretion is important. |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
i pay 38 i think for movies and sport in hd which ain't a bad deal if only vm had a xbox to watch tv on like sky
|
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Had the Sky Sports plus HD package a couple years back, was about £35 if I remember correctly.
Now we have BT Sports & ESPN free with TV XL and we use my partners mum's Sky Go login to watch any games via the laptop on the TV but not in HD obviously. Can't justify paying what Sky/VM ask for Sports packages, it's a bit much at the moment. |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Quote:
i used to have sky sports/movies (HD) on VM- i was paying over £110pm for my full package which at over £1300 a year for tv/tel &bb was getting a bit ridiculous. got rid of the sky sports and movies-and downgraded other bits too- almost halved my bill. I had watched most of the films and as has already been said you dont get all the sports in HD anyway. If anyone from Sky reads this the fact you withhold stuff like Sky Sports F1, 3 and 4 in HD and Sky Atlantic from VM still doesnt make me want to bring my business to you! I am ok to settle with the ESPN/BT bundle at no extra cost on my current pack and also have a relative from whom i can access Sky Go and watch Sky Sports that way (they dont have movies though). Though tbh whilst watching Sky Sports is nice theres really only Man City or Celtic game and NFL game i watch i could probably live without it - i dont think my life would over- and certainly have no immediate plans to subscribe again at the current prices. i was toying with the idea of occasionally getting Sky Sports & Movies for a month or two at a time- watch the films i want then cancel. But now with the imminent arrival of Netflix (and who knows Lovefilm) they might be a more cost effective option- ok you might have to wait a bit longer for the premieres but hardly the end of the world. it would be interesting to know what the impact of the last couple of years recession has done to premium content subscriptions- i imagine many have also downgraded. This and the emergence of other streaming services may force Sky (and VM) to look again at their pricing rather just announce increase after increase- well you can hope cant you |

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
i am glad Premier Sports has been made available at last on VM.
i will enjoy the 'free' period and watch some NHL. After that i will not be subscribing simply because at £7.99/£9.99 pm it doesnt represent good value to me. But freedom of choice and all that ;people at least have the option to subscribe or not. Will be interesting how many subscribers the channel attracts on VM in the new year. i am a bit disappointed VM and PS (and Netflix for that matter) could not thrash out a deal to include it in a pack such as XL. Now i know non-sports fans (what is up with these people anyway ?;) ) would moan that they would be subsidising this and BT/ESPN but i refer to a previous post if VM could have got PS and Netflix in a pack such as XL they could have covered the cost with a nominal price increase in the pack. Netflix would give the non-sports fans their 'value' . For me all parties gain- Netflix and PS probably get more £ than as standalone subscriptions, VM's top tier pack represents even better value for most XL customers and probably gains more subscribers. I understand PS have wanted a deal like this before but have wanted a bigger % than VM have considered acceptable. A small price increase done in a way that many would see as good value may have been a way to satisfy all parties) I may be wrong in that assumption and can only speak for myself but if the XL pack (or maybe a new pack called say XL+) had the current content + the new rumoured channels + PS + Netflix i would be willing to pay more ( maybe a couple of quid maybe up to a fiver) as i would regard it as good value. Perhaps we could do a poll to gauge people's opinion? |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
So BT put up a free pass, those who don't subscribe did tune in from what im reading so ratings have most probably shot up and with that guess what, go on guess... its not hard
Spoiler:
it is soo dire its truly unbelievable. BT wont listen though and on they go wondering why the ratings dont rise for the paid product as much as it should because the contents isnt bad. it isnt a case of getting people talking, its a case of people hating it soo much they cant be arsed, they wont pay for such crap which is a shame because as i said the contents, the offering of live events is good. bore off BT, killing live sport. |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Quote:
But adding another Premium sports channel, full value £10p/m would have been a step too far, especially as even sports fans don't seem to rate it's content that highly. If they were going to add another premium service, it should have been Netflix. That would be a fair balance for sports fans/non fans, and would have had the same effect as BT sports in attracting new customers to VM. |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
Why has there been such a fuss with PS with regard to the RWC? Is the BBC not covering all the games?
|
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
BT Sports @ £15/pm, PS @ £8/pm and Netflix at £6/pm is £29/pm that VM would have to fork out for on premium extras only, on a package that they only sell at £37. Its not feasible for them to include PS & Netflix in XL, it was (is?) barely feasible for BT Sports to be included but they didn't really have a choice.
Don't get greedy. |
Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
First opportunity to watch Premier tonight. Firstly, three live NHL games in a row-thank god we get an extra hour in bed! Secondly I think the picture quality is actually very decent. Thirdly, will I subscribe when the freeview is up? Well, I've a pack of beer and all night to watch sport. Without Premier I'd still have live Italian football, and a couple of reruns of German football either side of Match of the Day, and that's before I settle down for game 3 of the World Series, so I'm finding it tough to make a case for parting with up to a tenner a month for it, but I'll certainly enjoy it whilst it's here.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

So the result of all that is that Sky ended up with what they wanted, whilst BT ended up with something akin to what ESPN had been showing for the last couple of years ie. the status quo was largely maintained, except the cost had been largely inflated. And that cost is inevitably passed on to the consumer. Sky Sports has increased, and we've yet to see the impact of Virgin's deal with BT but I'm sure they'll announce an annual price increase soon as it's almost twelve months since the last one. The cost of BT Sport as a subscription option is higher than ESPN was. Dave42 is right in my opinion. BT clearly want to get more from the next rights auction, whilst Sky have shown no indication that they're prepared to give up their positron as top dog. So, unless in the meantime something happens which forces a shake up of the current system and introduces real competition for the benefit of the consumer, I expect another record breaking rights auction next time round followed by more price rises. |

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
You wonder if the PL would have offered BT a second stab if Sky had outbid them?
The consumer has only so much spare cash Sky have to be careful they don't price them too high and people drop them. In fact my local club has started to subscribe again after about 5 years without it, they are now paying less (500) than they were before (800), it got dropped because Sky changed the way they work retail out and wanted to put it up to £1200 a month! |

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news
About time someone took Sky on but let's hope its not at a massive increase in costs to us customers.
That said, I would happily pay BT Sports a fee for their package if it included all they have so far plus CL games, as long as it was cheaper than Sky currently charge which I feel is too high. Game changing indeed. . Wonder what Sky's response will be! |
