And you class that as fair play? Surely someone who wants fair play would be an advocate of players trying to stay on their feet.

I'd rather there was no diving at all, of course. But if it follows a genuine foul, then it's by the by for me. It's when people dive with no foul having taken place, that's cheating, and I cannot abide that. Winning a game via cheating is the lowest tactic.

Fouled in the same way Grosso was.

The defender did not make contact with owen, owen made contact with the defender. Similar to Pires against Portsmouth.

diving and cheating is wrong and should be cut out whether it's a foreign team, England or even AJ for Palace it shoudn't be allowed

if you cheat and take drugs and get cuaght you get a two year ban

if you cheat and dive and get caught you get a bit if plastic waved at you and your name gets written on apiece of paper

it's plainly obvious that this is getting worse and the current punishment, a yellow card, isn't enough to stop this

the problem that FIFA and UEFA need to work out is that if a player jumps out of the way of a foul and there is no contact should they still get a free kick.. if contact is made but the player was going for the ball is that a foul ?

at the moment players would rather get a free kick or pen than actually stay on their feet and go for the ball and that is wrong

Eboue dived in the champs league final and i'm sure none of the Arsenal fans care about that.

stil at least none of the players were wearing jewelery during any matches and i'm so grateful to FIFA for sorting out a problem i know we were all deeply worried about :D

yes he dived and that just shows the problem.. people aer so used to seeing this sort of thing and pens being given and some younger fans have only ever seen this that they think this is a proper foul and a pen

He deliberately tripped over the defenders leg rather than the defender fouling him. Same as Grosso tripped over Neill rather than Neill fouling him.

Anyway back to slagging commentators. Did anyone notice Motson talking about the Abel Xavier look a like before Lawrenson kindly pointed out that it actually was him?

On the subject of diving. Did anyone see the reaction from the Italian bench to an alleged dive in one of the early games? I thought it was hilarious. There were four blokes on the bench. The leftmost bloke waved an imaginary card, and the three to the right of him made a diving gesture (synchronized). It looked like they had practiced it. :D

If that was the case, then I would not condone it, but, falling on the floor when there is nobody close to you i.e. Portugal, and I am not just talking about Ronaldo here, does look rather stupid, but the ref's choose to ignore it rather than red or yellow card the offender.
It is almost like FIFA are condoning it by taking no action against it, the mind boggles.
I think Cristiano Ronaldo is a class footballer, I just wish he would just concentrate his efforts on that rather than trying to con the ref all the time.

Come on, Germany!!!!!

Sigh, Portugal still haven't learnt that diving and trying to convince the ref they were fouled is not a strategy for winning.
