The majority of people who buy 3D TVs don't watch 3D at all. By the time they decide to give it a try, they can't remember what they did with the specs!

To get the best 2D PQ, you're looking at the higher range TVs and they come with 3D as standard.

So many people by 3D TVs not for 3D, but to get the best 2D PQ.

Does anyone know if VM are doing any offers for Sky Sports, as the normal price they are asking for is ridiculous?

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Neilo, You won't get any answers from BT Sport, l have been trying to get answers since it started.

You cannot get anywhere with them - you can try phoning their complaints on servive number, and they will put you to the sports dept. You will get transferred to Delhi. And they have a clue on what you are asking.

I did get an answer in an email. They say its a new idea from there service dept and wont change it.

Point of information/speculation - this may have been because the BT Sports deal had not been finalised....

This is correct, a top end tv's 2d performance can look almost 3d when set up and calibrated correctly, add to this a top end tv will usually have much better 3d performance than a mid range tv and it becomes less of a niche, and more of a normality, the mrs loved Star Trek into darkness on 3D blu-ray.

I've said a lot about the quality of BT Sport's rights and the amount of money that they've spent on acquiring them. And I stand completely by those comments. But, from what I've seen so far, and admittedly I haven't seen all of their Premier League matches, they are trying to be innovative. Some of it's working, some of it isn't. I like the virtual pitch, for example, but could well do without having a ref in the commentary box, especially, Mark Halsey, who has been pretty dreadful. I do, however, really like the DOG location. I think it allows consistency across their programming - for instance when they're showing foreign football which comes with it's own branding stamped in the top left corner - and it allows them to show the picture in picture box which means the main view is always the main action, which I think is absolutely excellent.

They just need to add some diverse sports rights to their portfolio. At times there is a lack of anything to watch.

Yes MO is definitely a load of rubbish but many of Sky's pundits are no better as generally ex footballers do not make for good viewing on TV and l myself would prefer one or two of the more articulate journalist's from Fleet Street in preference to these uneducated idiots.

i think it has already been confirmed the commentary will be the original ESPN feed. so that good news.

i am not sure what if any studio analysis will be provided- possibly the ESPN feed again- that would be fine with me.

as Bear says HD games on C4 and Eurosport to compliment the Sunday Sky games and set for the next 2 seasons- excellent.

All i need now is for the Giants to win ;)

Quite and so therefore we will start all over again with someone else having 38 games and BT will have lost out like the others.... I may be wrong but just have an instinct that BT will have decided sport is too draining on their reserves by the next auction.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

i cancelled my sky sports subscription some time ago on cost.

if BT sports was going to cost me £15pm i wouldn't have paid for it for the same reason.

Whether BT sports would be good value at £15pm i dont know really.

sky sport pack is £27.50pm (without sky movies)- you get 5 channels-inc F1- (2 in HD)- but the HD would cost another £7pm so really £34.50

bt sports £15.00pm -3 channels (all HD)- i suppose on the basis it might be fair though it would also be fair to say Sky content is superior to BT at the moment.

i think BT still need to add to their portfolio if they are serious about challenging Sky.

I am happy to keep my XL tv with BT included- for me that represents decent value

the bottom line is that to watch Sky and BT sports would cost you over £500 per year if you paid for both. That i think is too much.

That coincides with the end of the carriage agreement with Virgin so if bt are able to improve their Premier League rights portfolio it could well mean the end of it being free on Virgin.

I've no problem with the concept, just cannot understand the point of somebody who isn't prepared to even consider the possibility that the ref has made a mistake. In the studio were Warnock and McManaman (both former wingers, fwiw), who believed that the ref had made a mistake. The replays showed that the ref had made a mistake. There was even video footage of the official closest to the incident saying that he was unable to call it. And yet Halsey was so reluctant to come out against Moss that even Warnock was lost for words. By all means have a ref in the commentary box - I like the fact that bt are trying to innovate - but using somebody who has zero credibility (check my posts - I was saying the same during Fulham v. Arsenal, this isn't just because of today) just defeats the object. Which is a shame.

An update on Premier Sports.

In response to a tweet asking if they were about to appear on VM in the near future:

@south_stander @virginmedia funny you ask. They rejected us again 2 weeks ago and I think that is us done with negotiations.

@south_stander @virginmedia we wanted We wanted 0.3% of what they just paid BT!

and later

@south_stander @virginmedia it has to be SKY or the Premier Player I am afraid. Virgin are not for turning.

I think that just about puts that to bed.

My math isn't that great how much of 70mill is 0.3%?

Ok just googled, £210000 if the 70 mill was accurate.

Surely the NHL coverage is worth that alone?

BT Sport's arrival has just about finished any chance of Premier Sport on VM imo....

I agree Harry , with the launch of Sky Sports Ashes I wonder whether we could see similar events having a dedicated named channel with subscription options for those only interested in that particular event rather than the current situation of taking a full Sky Sports sub.

Looks like BT Sports have acquired the rights to the upcoming WC playoffs in Africa according to this site (http://www.live-footballontv.com/), but has there been any official announcement?

The Independent: BT reveal they are considering bid for Champions League football to rival ITV and Sky Sports.

BT chief executive Gavin Patterson has indicated they may consider bidding for rights to broadcast Champions League matches from 2015.

Sky paid around £240million to share live coverage of the showpiece European matches each week, with ITV's £160m giving the free-to-air-broadcaster first pick of Tuesday night fixtures.

So clubs and players will get richer as a result whilst we will to continue to pay more.

I think BT need to do this in order to cement their future and be taken seriously as a true alternative to Skysports, other option could be internationals

More info from both sides

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Premier should have taken the offer. They are not major players like Sky and BT and seem to have made a huge blunder not accepting VM's offer.

Nothing on the Twitter account quoted above suggests the "us" is anything but a reference to RL fans who want PS on Virgin or that the writer is anything of an insider who has proof of what was or was not offered it seems to me...

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

currently on Bt and ESPN

ESPN College Football
BT1 MLB play-offs
BT2 College Football

as a big fan of North American sports this is heaven for me. all in HD :)

The BT/ESPN bundle is so much better than the old ESPN bundle for me.

after these games there are 2 more College Football games and another MLB game across the 3 channels simultaneously. Fantastic.
