My parents have been having lots of problems with their OD and 20mb BB , they rang and were told there area was having some essential upgrades. They received a letter through the door today saying their services would be down for 4 hours , VM techs were working on the green cab down the road , when finished the green cab was painted grey as were a few others in the area. What are these upgrades ?

Can you imagine how much your monthly subscription would jump if Virgin secured carriage deals with all those channels? Everyone from M+, L and XL would have to pay an extra £15.00 per month for their TV package. Personally I'd like Virgin to continue securing deals with popular channels, and content providers, to make sure we're getting the best value for money. I'd like Virgin to speed up a little when negotiating but other than that I can't really complain too much.

Why? Sky offer most of these and there subs are on Par with Virgin, If sky can offer these why can't Virgin

A new channel has to pay SKY to get on the EPG slot whilst Virgin Media have to actually pay the new channel to join the EPG slot.

What would be even better is if Virgin brought in the 'watch from the beginning' VOD feature some of the US cable networks have. If you've missed the start of a programme you can hit a button to start it from the beginning even as the programme is still going out.

That would be dependent on the rights holders agreeing to it.

However I don't think even the BBC put the iPlayer version of a programme up online on their own site until it's finished broadcasting, so can't see them doing it for Virgin Media

From what I understand it's more akin to a PVR on each channel at the local headend, storing a rolling buffer from the live stream from which users can then wind back to the start of a show. And only on channels where the rights have been agreed to use the tech.

They can't because then they would have too much control over cable TV in the UK legally. The merger wouldn't be approved.

This wouldn't be an issue seeing as they operate in different areas and VM only cover 50% of the country. If both companies covered the same areas then there would a regulatory issue.

I've got the red button on TiVo on STV SD and HD. Not sure how significant it is. It takes me to the ITV Netplayer.

It only appears for about 30 seconds when I change to the channel though

I'm in Bo'ness near Falkirk.

Because it costs (someone) more to be on cable than it does satellite.

If you mean "any one know why Sky took off ITV4+1" - they didn't. ITV took ITV4+1 off Sky as they wanted the EPG slot for another channel.

In my opinion sport and movies are very well represented on VM, news less so. Adding Al Jazeera would be a step in the right direction.

Al jazeera is one of the best news channels around. I already use it online, it would be great for it to be on Virgin.

It looks stupid saying ITV4 HD when Virgin Media don't have that channel yet.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Just like we don't have (as I've said before) the american version of FX HD, MTV Classic, Sky 3 HD or Nat Geo Wild HD, all of which have been shown on virginmedia.com despite the fact we don't have them or the fact they don't exist.

Its not a conspiracy, its human error.
