Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Sorted out a problem on the main PC - it wouldn't boot up this morning (the fans would come on for a second, then everything would stop, then fans would come on again for a second, repeat ad nauseum).
Did some browsing to fault find, and most googles seemed to think it was a mobo or power problem, so I tried the power problem options (unplugged various bits inside the PC to reduce consumption to see if it would start), but nada. Kept searching the web, and found a link that said it might be the CMOS battery - took it out, put it back in, and hey presto, everything back up again. As an additional benefit, I removed 3 years and 8 months of dust from the inside of the computer....:D |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
I'm currently rabbit sitting for my sister (whose in Portugal), last night as I was locking up the key broke in the lock:erm:
I was luckily still able to open the door by using the bit on the keyring in the lock, but nothing else could. So I had to get a locksmith, looking in the local Thompson Directory a guy in my street is one. So tonight he came round and managed to get the boken bit out almost as quick as it went in:). He also only charged me £30 instead of £40 as I was a neighbour:D:D. To tell the truth I would have paid £40. Now I know the house is again 100% secure I can sleep properly tonight knowing the rabbit can be fed and cuddled (Nieces orders). It could have been worse and cost around £200. |

Seriously though you were lucky to get a locksmith for £30, they usually cost an arm and a leg. Incidentally could you/your sister not claim on your household insurance policy if the charge had been £200? |

Managed to get a HTC Sensation from voda as an upgrade, they offered the usual crappy blackberries and the cheaper HTCs etc as an upgrade but told them I wasn't interested, so they gave me the sensation. Managed to get 600mins, 500mb data, unlimited texts, with a free Voda sure signal booster, all for £20 a month.

I'm guessing that Cobby is winging his way on his honeymoon.
I hope the drive isn't too jiggly, and that he and Juliann have a great time, and that the weather is good, and that he'll post some scenery pics. My slightly happy thought is that eldest was going to have an op in November but it has been rushed through (not good) but will be over with in 3 weeks. |

We now have a pool table at work :D
Coming soon: A dart board & a table tennis table. |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

I tried pool a few weeks ago for the first time - made a cracking top-pocket pot from the very other end that everyone agreed I would fail at. I thought a victory roll was in order :D I'd seen some snooker on the TV and my opponent managed to pot 2 of my colour in one go for me :D All I ever got from work was a water-cooler, a dishwasher, lots of notices, stress and a laminator (you get the drift). I challenge you to table-tennis, but I wouldn't let me near the dart board :D |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
We've expanded into the unit next door (more office space and lab space now we have two units). As we now have a much larger "tea room", the boss actually thought it would be good to have a kind of "game room" area :) The pool table was bought off eBay from a local firestation, and I think the table tennis table was an eBay job too.
I'm awful at darts (best kept away from it like you!), probably awful at table tennis, but used to be pretty good at pool. |

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Yesterday I picked my sister, hubby and kids from the airport, their daughter ran upto me and jumped into my arms and gave me an awesome hug:D, their son wasn't quick enough, but still got a hug.
Their daughter also text my mum on monday (my mums birthday) to say happy birthday and that she was looking to going on holiday with us on Saturday, I should add she was on holiday on Portugal. This bit is a mix. I have had my contract extended to the end of October, and I have heard the guy I'm temping for may not see February next year :( |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Took our youngest to have an MRI brain scan yesterday. Due to his various problems and not understanding what was being done and why, giving him the general anaesthetic proved to be the traumatic experience we'd dreaded as we had to hold him down whilst the mask was held to face and we waited for the gas to put him out. He's incredibly strong and was screaming and struggling for what seemed like an age before he finally succumbed and went off to sleep with us feeling awful for putting him through so much stress and fear. It was a few hours before we were able to get him home and he was understandably grumpy and subdued for the rest of the day whilst we were preoccupied with worrying about any possible adverse reaction to events.
This morning, however, we were woken as usual by his happy voice and smiling face - there's really no better alarm call in the world I can tell you! All may not be forgotten but we've clearly been forgiven..... :) |
Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4
Ah that is really hard and like any parent if we could we would want to take the pain away for them and feel useless as well and guilty when we have to do things that are out of our control
I'm so so glad that he woke thing morning with a big grin on his face to melt your hearts. That sounds so so lovely ---------- Post added at 20:05 ---------- Previous post was at 19:54 ---------- Quote:
