Go to Home -> Help & Settings -> System Info -> System Info to see the version number.

VM will update your box automatically when the time is right. You don't need to do anything.

Thanks for the help!
I have been trying to get it for free but Virgin are having non of it.
Think I will wait for the remainder of my contract to run out and see what the deals are then

well i tried the free route and got no where been with them 9 years but in the middle of a new deal from march this year, still went for it because of the free V+ box upstairs for as long as we have tivo , thought to myself knowing my luck march next year that promo might have ended. when they move the V+ box upstairs do they dumb it down to anormal box or does it keep all its features?. Looking forward to Wednesday to get the beast fitted.

p.s also confirm my obligation is to keep TV for 12 months (any tv package).

Would i get the free multiroom offer if I have TV XL and currently have a V HD box also do they need to install cables in the other room or is just a signal to the box in the another room ?

Just found this. It was posted by Ben who is a Virgin Media staff member

If I understand how the multiroom offer works it applies to single box customers upgrading to TiVo and who are on XL tv

If you aren't on XL tv or already have more than one STB it doesn't apply.

As I said before. This week I have been offered (I am on XL TV ) & out of contract.

V+ moved ( no charge) guess that ties in with this

TiVo installed NO charge so much for brand new customers only:p:

And my overall bill reduced by £9 per month ( so as I see it no £3 per month cost either):D
