Hello Ben, just seen your reply to Andrews question, are you 100% sure that its not possible to record onto a DVD like you can from a V+, because if thats right i wont bother with Tivo as i will never be able to copy to DVD, so Tivo will be a waste of time for me.:(

You can copy to DVD in so far you have to set the previous recording running which will send the output to the SCART and so to your DVD recorder. However that means you are effectively watching the programme and cannot watch anything else, as the Tivo is just feeding down the SCART what is currently being looked at.

So not the same as the V+ where you can set-up a copy to SCART while watching something else.

My plan with Tivo is to set up a copy to DVD running as I have to with Tivo when we are out of the house since an infrequent need for me.

Some posters have said that they see little need for this feature, but in our house, we have 3 other TVs each with integrated DVDs, so it is sometimes useful (especially for the kids) to copy something onto DVD so they can watch it in their own rooms while the adults can watch something else on the main TV with the Tivo.

Simple practicality and while there is talk of future activation of USA features to provide multi room viewing, it is not today and even when in place, are we just talking of transmitting what is currently being shown on the Tivo as against allowing another room to see a different recording stored on the Tivo, the latter would remove the DVD copy subject to knowing what you need in the other room. Do you have to subscribe to another box say, in which case I will be happy to keep going with the “low technology” DVD copy route as an infrequent requirement in my house.

I record 98 % hd programmes on my box,Would have thought tivo would notice this in the same way it notices what programs i like and record hd versions

I think what he's saying is it a feature to add rather than a bug, a bug would be it's got the feature but doesn't work.

I'm with you though, would be at the top of my list. I'm sure it must be on the development plan?

I believe only the SA V+ can do this. The Samsung V+ sends the same output to both SCARTs, I seem to remember this is a hardware limitation.

To be strict I regard this as a feature shortfall not a new feature requirement. It seems crazy that you cannot choose to have your suggestions recorded in HD (if available) to me, this is the whole point of getting Tivo with its larger HDD IMHO, so plenty of capacity for HD recordings, which is making the V+ almost obsolete as it is so easy to run out of capacity.

Re: TiVo

We are in the opposite boat, we don't have a HD TV so why waste space recording that version in preference to SD. What's more annoying is recording the AD version or version with signing.

A select version preference would be a good feature with options like

SD
HD
AD

Maybe you could weight them so that you didn't miss a programme because clashes meant you preferred format was unavailable.

I'm sure TiVO Premiere users have been asking for this for ages.

This is what worries me, that Premiere users have been asking for stuff like HD Suggestions; all UI screens to be in HD etc for eons and yet their still waiting - so what hope do we have of seeing this sort of additional functionality being added?

Guess I'm over optimistic!

Not having a TiVo ( I'm looking at you VM) I'm not sure we have the ability to do this:

Thanks for that guys, so the Tivo is like my Sky HD box, when it comes to copying, cant watch anything else, that sucks a little but as long as i can copy will have to paly on my Xbox while im waiting for copying to finish. Thanks again to all for quick peply.:)

johnasimmons 31-03-2011 12:41

Has anyone had the long awaited email from VM about TiVo today?

Nope

Re: TiVo

The last email only mentioned around the end of March that could still be interpreted as up till the first few days in April.

Re: TiVo

I just can't see how an email that said end of March, can be interpreted as beginning of April.

That's because they didn't actually say "by the end of March".

Dear Chris,

The countdown is on!

A little while ago, you let us know you were interested in our new TV service, Virgin Media TV powered by TiVo®. We’re delighted you’re as excited about the new service as we are! We’re looking forward to bringing it to you as soon as we can. In fact, that’s why we’re getting in touch.

Here's the latest...

The new TiVo service will be available to the general public in the next few months. But you won’t have to wait that long to get your hands on it.

At Virgin Media, our customers come first. That’s why we’d like to offer you the chance to order your TiVo service before it goes on sale to the rest of the Great British public which we expect to be in April. What’s more, we’ll make sure you’re first in the queue to have your service installed, with priority installation, just for Virgin Media customers.

If you’re interested, you don’t need to do a thing. We’ll be in touch around the end of March to let you know how you can get the TiVo service before it goes on general sale. For now, you can sit back, relax and wait for all the good stuff to come to you.

Yours sincerely,

The Virgin Media team

Re: TiVo

Might not be today?

They said "We’ll be in touch around the end of March" which could mean before or after the end of March.
