Well, according to this link, it clearly states
"“Sochi 2014 will be the first Winter Games broadcast in 3D; we are already working very closely with our colleagues at Panasonic to ensure optimum technical delivery"

Does not mention the BBC though.

However, as I do not have a 3d TV, I dont really care !

There is a low tech way to enjoy 3D on a non 3D TV by changing the way you view the TV with your eyes.

More content would perhaps change that, I was hooked on 3D when I watch football in my local pub. Adds a completely new dimension to set-pieces, corners etc. There are a number of winter sports that can be mundane, but 3D could change that? I know its not for everyone, but I think some 3D content would be welcome by most.

I take it that you didn't have to wear glasses :D

It also highlights a money saving opportunity for SKY Sports subscribers come the summer.

The last fixtures of the Premiership are played on the 11th May. The rest of the big games that month are free on TV. The Europa League, Champions League and FA Cup finals are all live on ITV with the Scottish Cup final live on BBC Scotland. Then into June and July the BBC and ITV will cover all 64 games of the World Cup.

Of course it's not just football that we're being treated too this summer:

F1 (Spanish Grand Prix) - 11th May (BBC)
The French Open - 25th May to 8th June (ITV)
F1 (Canadian Grand Prix) - 8th June (BBC)
The Queen's Club Championships - 9th June to 15th June (BBC)
Wimbledon - 23rd June to 6th July (BBC)
Tour de France - 5th July to 27th July (ITV)
F1 (British Grand Prix) - 6th July (BBC)
The Open Championship - 13th July to 20th July (BBC)
The Commonwealth Games - 23rd July to 3rd August (BBC)
The European Athletics Championships - 10th to 17th August (BBC)
F1 (Belgian Grand Prix) - 24th August (BBC)

With the new season of the Premiership not due to start until September 2014, and a wide range of top quality sport free in HD on terrestrial television, it's certainly worth considering cancelling SKY Sports in May, June, July and August and saving yourself a small fortune.

What a good idea Chad :)

Nice to see some new contributors to this topic too- a warm welcome to all :)

Well quite, Dave. What I meant was that they will go up even higher.

Yes, that was just me, and completely hypothetical before anyone asks for a source! But Sky would have to recoup the money somehow after what they have paid for the rights!

I had a horrible nightmare last night. I had the realisation that so far 2014 is turning out to be eerily similar to 2012. Maybe we were just spoiled with all the channel treats in 2013 and it was an unusual year. But boy was it a lot of fun.

So far in 2013 there are no rumours except some shopping channels closing. I'm scared its going to stay like this all year.

Someone please hold me...

2013 was a vintage year for Virgin Media in terms of TV channels and I think we must now accept that the majority of significant gaps have now been filled.

For this reason, we can expect VM to be concentrating on other developments for their service this year, and most of the additional TV content is likely to come from apps such as Netflix. As you know, on the TV apps front, Lovefilm is likely to be next.

Personally l am not surprised as 3D is a niche product for a small minority.

Any chance of any UKTV On Demand content coming to Virgin Media?

eg http://www.tvwise.co.uk/2014/01/uktv...eally-youview/

Virgin and its predecessors were the original leaders in developing on demand services, but now seem seriously to be lagging both Sky and other platforms.

OK, I know that at lot of UKTV content is old stuff, and also that shows may be repeated several times if you don't manage to record them, but there is now much more original material than there used to be.

I guess maybe 'not' coming soon:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-25840502

Alcatel-Lucent and BT said speeds of 1.4 terabits per second were achieved during their joint test - enough to send 44 uncompressed HD films a second

but what an upgrade!! :D
