I'm so upset at the moment. I have just phoned the hospital about my gallbladder op and I have now been told that the deadline they gave is looking like it will not be met so that means it will be after November needless to say I have been in tears this morning due to this update and now I don't know what to do. The way I see it is I have three options first one being stay quiet and hope for the best or two go to my GP and see if they can hurry things along or my third option would be to contact the patient affairs manager. I really do not what to do but one thing I do know is I can't stand the thought of suffering from these attacks and they seem to be getting more frequent and lasting longer each time and the pain now seems to be lasting for hours and the being sick part does not relieve the pain at all. Sorry about the rant but I'm just so upset at the thought of this.

I just wish I had the money to go private as the pain is that bad! This is the first time I have felt let down by the NHS and I know I should feel lucky that I will get the operation done but the pain is awful, I suppose I'm just feeling rather down and sorry for myself atm.

l am very sad to hear this weenie but sadly this is happening more and more in that operations are being delayed and delayed as l myself have experienced delays until my op was done in August.

l hope and pray that it is sorted out sooner rather then later for you as no one likes people to suffer pain for any period.

As my wife found out weenie, if NHS can't provide the service required they use a local private hospital to carry out the procedure as required.
Hope you manage to get sorted soonest.

I'd be having a word with the consultant's secretary and explaining the situation you're in with the frequent and increasing pain etc. via an email so it's on the record and not able to be 'forgotten' about. With the best will in the world, there's no way they can know how badly each patient is doing whilst on the waiting list and I'm sure they won't want to take the risk that this develops into severe pancreatitis having been warned in advance. Look at it this way, if you have a really bad attack you could well wind up in A&E like I did and then they'd quite possibly have to act as an emergency. I'm sure you're trying to be brave for your family but you do need to inform them that your situation is worsening so that they can hopefully get you in as soon as possible. I know exactly how you feel and my thoughts are with you weenie. :hugs: :hugs:

Yes l hope it does the trick dilli as my cardiac nurse phoned up later this afternoon as l saw her early last week and she said then my heart was beating too fast then and thus then sent two messages to my surgery asking for a GP to contact her promptly but sadly no one contacted her from my surgery and thus l ended up in A&E on Saturday night so she is far from happy with my surgery at the moment as since the merging of the two surgeries she said complaints from patients have increased quite a bit.

@dilli, @weenie. Hope they get you both sorted out soon.

My drive to Leatherhead yesterday was every thing I'd been dreading, Took 45 minutes just to get out of Worthing and 2 hours to get to the place (Intertek) in Leatherhead. one hour 30 to get back.

Had to go again today but took the Bostal road up over the downs from Sompting church to Steyning and then across on the A283 to the A24. Narrow but not busy. Bypassed the worst jams and got to Leatherhead in1 hr 20.

Tomorrow I have to go again but this time via Lewes to pick up some kit and then across country. At least this is the last day I'm committed to on this contract. There's going to be a whopping travel supplement for all that hassle. I guess I have to earn that ~£1k

EMC testing (near field) is also very boring.

Good. It helps for medics to be reminded that patients are human and that their circumstances and thresholds to pain etc. can be very different. If your symptoms are making your life a real misery, as they clearly are, they need to know about it. Not everyone on that list will be suffering as badly as you so it may well be possible for them to elevate you up the list but one thing's for sure and that is, if they don't know how badly you're suffering, they have no reason to do anything. :hugs:

Just got off the phone with my bank - some little so and so has used one of my debit cards online and £850 of the £1225 went through before the computer said no. They're going to try and reverse the transactions but if they can't I'll have no end of forms to fill in.

Don't know how it happened as it's an account that was set up to deal with my mother's estate - been no transactions since January and looking through the statements the card has NEVER been used outside of the branch - everything was cheque, direct debit or online banking.

Cheers

Gutted but not in the I expected to be :(

I was prepared for surgery had the hospital gown on, anesthetist came and spoke to me, then the surgeon said he could not do the op because he said I was a week day patient and he did state that I would need to be done during the week because of the risk to my bowel as I have Crohns and he has checked to see if any beds were available as it is unlikely that he will be able to carry out the operation via key hole but he would try although he reckons it would be unlikely due to the risks etc. My son has sent off a email to the hospital stating that since my operation was cancelled on a non-clinical reason and the reason being clerical error and no beds available what time frame is the operation expected to be carried out. He has said to me it should be within 28 days but he is keeping that quiet atm until he checks that this is the case but he is sure they have to offer me a date within 28 days for a non-clinical reason. I must say the surgeon and nursing staff were great and showed myself great empathy.

I make it a policy never to use my cards in petrol stations, convenience stores, takeways etc. I believe those types of places tend to be where most of the problems with skimming occur.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Our worktop mini-oven and grill looks like the top elements are on the way out, they're all twisted and out of line and seem to be getting fatter. It hasn't blown yet so I'm searching to see if I can get some spares. Unfortunately it's a Lidl's special and so far the nearest elements I can source are for a Panasonic microwave / grill but these are the quartz glass type as opposed to the metal tube type. They'll do at a pinch even though they're slightly lower power. 600w vs 650w for the pair.

It's handy to have a small oven/grill to save putting on the big one just for a pie or pasty and it takes about 1/2 the power.

By the sound of it, your Lidl special is identical to my daughters.
Her grill elements have gone, she was using it whilst awaiting an oven repair on her main oven under guarantee.

So sorry to hear this weenie. :hugs: A very unfortunate mixup indeed! I was told that sometimes they start with the aim of doing keyhole surgery but then may find they need to open the patient up properly if there are complications and that's exactly what happened to a neighbour of mine earlier this year. It seems poor communication was the reason in your case and that's very disappointing indeed because you should never have been considered for day surgery. As you say, it's not only the ordeal you've been put through but the waste of a slot which someone else could have benefited from. We all know the NHS is under a lot of pressure but what excuse is there for a basic error such as this? Grrr...

weenie 10-10-2016 17:04

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8

Oh Osem I was so upset but tried to remain calm as it was not their fault the surgeon actually said to me thank you for being so understanding while all the time I was crumbling inside.

It is looking like it will be open surgery in where I will need to stay for 3 day's which I totally accept. I've had a call from his secretary today and basically she said that they a trying to arrange a bed and set up a list and hopefully it will be this month so at least that's good there trying to fit me in this month. If I knew it would this soon I would have kept the chocolates that I gave the day unit yesterday ;) The wee one said Mum why did you give them the chocolates and I said they were bought for them not you, I think he was more bothered that I did not bring the tin of Roses home than he was about me not getting the operation LOL

It's under the "Bifinett" brand but the later one that they do under "Silvercrest" seems to have the same elements. I'll let you know if I can find something.

Other good things would be to isolate off your main bank balance from the card you use. A credit card being the easiest option because it also offers better protection from fraud but alternatively two debit cards or moving your salary into a savings/other account from the account you spend on. I tend never to have significant savings/funds in an account with a debit card.

Some cards/banks also have integrated app notifications so you're instantly notification of transactions.

Yep. We have a credit card with a low credit limit which we use for most of our online purchases. At least that way, our maximum possible exposure is only a few hundred pounds. I hardly ever use a debit card for the reasons you cite but increasingly we're finding that extra charges will be made for doing that whereas the debit card is free to use.

Quick update - should be in the happy thought thread - money now back in the account. The only worry is the bank don't seem bothered that the card had only ever been used in the branch so only their employees and I would know the details. So the moral is be careful and keep a close eye on your accounts!

Not sure if this should be in here or the happy thought thread.

After two weeks leave from work, I'm currently sat in Newcastle airport waiting to get a flight to Heathrow, and then tonight a flight from Heathrow to Singapore.

Part of me is very excited at the thought of going to see another part of the world (even if it is with work and there wont be a lot of time for sight seeing)

But, the other part of me is missing my new house, my other half and I'm certainly not looking forward to a 13hr flight.

Meh !!

Feeling rather sorry for myself today although it won't be long now until the wee one is home from school, my eldest home from Uni and hubby home from work. I don't suppose I would be feeling like this if I was allowed drive. I never would believe it if someone said that your home can be a lonely place.

I just got a letter from Santander regarding my Instant Savers account.

As the BoE base rate has dropped to 0.25%, my interest rate is being dropped from 0.10% to 0.01%.

I suppose I shouldn't moan about a record of good health but I went to make a doctor's appointment today to find I'd been removed from their lists and have to re-apply. I wonder why they never sent me a letter to confirm that I was still in the area? Form filling needed.

They told me when I was last in - 2004! Lots of tests that time only to be told I have a gyppy gut.

Got a spot of man trouble now so I need to see the quack. :(

Flying visit.

Work is rubbish, me and that manager are now barely speaking to one another, another is so 2 faced he is also barely speaking to me and another one I argued with when he tried blaming me for something that I didn't do. Ugh.

I broke 2 ribs last month as well, which are now healing. My mental health is really poor and despite having a good support network at work and outside of work, I cannot seem to shake my depression. GP is reluctant to give me antidepressants because I am a high suicide risk (apparently some antidepressants can cause suicidal thoughts, go figure that one out!) and am just generally feeling like rubbish.

I hope things are going well for others here, don't know if I'll be back again or if I am, when.

People can't drive.

They don't know how to use roundabouts. They don't have any lane awareness. They don't ensure the junction is clear before driving out into it. They don't obey the unspoken filter method when two lanes converge into one (i.e one car from each lane in turn). Worst of all they're either going too fast or too slow (relative to me who is going at exactly the perfect speed at all the time).

Too many people drive and our public transport is crap.

I was in Italy last week ( thankfully avoiding the earthquakes!). It was bliss, empty roads, fast transfers from the airport. I took a 15 mile train journey each day, cost 2 Euros, electric line, decent train reliable and on time. Its a state run system. Compare that to our privatised shambles. The same length journey I take in the UK is on a clapped out, overcrowded 1970's diesel 'train', that is frequently late - cost £12. Maybe having a transport system based on service, not profit, would get more off the roads.

Well it was a bugger parking in the hospital as usual as it took us 30 minutes to get a spot :( and then there was a delay in the ICD clinic and finally when they saw me they told me they had called me in early as the downloads sent through the home phone line from the monitor and ICD through to the clinic has shown several issues with my heart rhythms so they have changed some of the ICD settings in the hope that things will settle down which hopefully they will.

Well James Taylor the ex-England cricketer seem a lot better since he an ICD fitted; so hopefully they can fine tune it for you. I keep getting irregular heart rhythms, can be quite unsettling but they couldn't find anything after strapping to an ECG for a few days and told me not to worry ! I've cut down on caffeine and that seems to help. Guess it might not be as simple for you. Take care.

The trouble with me Mr K is my heart muscle is very enlarged because of the cardiomyopathy thus my heart works nothing like a ordinary functioning heart of a normal person so then that puts pressure on the normal rhythms of the heart and thus that is why the ICD is fitted to make the heart rhythms work better as without the ICD there is a significant risk of having a cardiac arrest which could finish me but thankfully l am hopeful of being there for many more years yet.
