Why did Virgin Media bother sending us that calendar of sport for the next year BEFORE signing the BT Sport deal? Surely they would have known seeing as they can't have made a whole ad campaign about it featuring Peter Crouch on the same day they announced the deal lol

i'm not sure Premier Sports will be around that long unless they take steps to reach as large an audience as possible -with Sky and BT ahead of them in the pay tv market perhaps they should abandon the subscription route.

Quite frankly they dont offer any near as good value compared to Sky and BT.

Perhaps they could go the same as Eurosport that has some decent programming (some would say superior to Premier Sports) and are not subscription based. As I said in a previous post be more widely available (not just on Sky platform) be cheaper and get on a VM tv package

So now as per the original topic:

1) ESPN - retained in XL and HD
2) BT - acquired in XL and HD
3) Eurosport - 1&2 in HD and XL
4) Premier sport - no (can they continue with likes of BT?)
5) sky sports news - only SD but rumoured HD soon

3 down two possibly one to go depending on how you look at it :)

How about Motors TV in SD. I'm not even worried about HD just anything other than the awful picture quality it is now :)

The reason why Premier Sports is not on VM is that they wanted to be on the XL TV pack and VM said subscription route was their only option to get on the cable platform!

presumably because Premier had asked for too much money and overestimated its value- I am sure if the price was right for both parties it could be on VM

Totally agree. They do seem to have a large following in terms of their NASCAR and NHL coverage. Posts on Facebook however suggest lots of rugby and conference fans cancelled in the summer after BT snapped up the rights.

I cannot see Premier Sports having much of a future unless they take steps to make themselves available to more customers or sell out in the UK as ESPN have done.

Just switched on for the last ten minutes, the dog isn't that annoying actually, but perhaps burn in will be an issue. The hd quality is good. That said, the sd channel is really really bad.

One question, we all know they have the Saturday lunchtime slot for the Premier League, but I notice that there's a Scottish Premiership match on 2 as well. They haven't seriously bought themselves different rights that they can only show at the same time, have they?

They are currently working on this. The next set of BT Sports Scottish football fixtures don't really clash with their other rights:

Airdrie Vs. Rangers is a Friday night game 7:45pm kick-off
Motherwell Vs. Kilmarnock is a Saturday evening game 5:30pm kick-off
Hearts Vs. Celtic is a Saturday lunchtime game 12:30pm kick-off
Dundee United Vs. Motherwell is a Sunday afternoon game 3:00pm kick-off
St. Mirren Vs. Aberdeen is a Monday night game 7:45pm kick-off
Partick Thistle Vs. Hibs is a Monday night game 7:45pm kick-off
Rangers Vs. Dunfermline is a Saturday evening game 5:30pm kick-off
Ross County Vs. Inverness is a Friday night game 7:45pm kick-off

Only Hearts Vs. Celtic clashes. The interesting thing is BT are deliberately putting Scottish football head to head with SKY's football matches. Monday games clash with Monday Night Football, Friday games clash with some Championship fixtures, Saturday evening games clash with Sky's Saturday football and Sunday fixtures clash with SKY's Super Sundays.

BT are clearly using Scottish football as a weapon to try and restrict SKY's viewing audiences. Whilst Scottish football isn't big down in England, fixtures featuring Celtic and Rangers can draw up to 200,000 viewers. That's 200,000 not watching SKY Sports.

My Dad is pretty old school. If there is a Scottish game and an English game on TV at the same time, he always watches the Scottish game. I know plenty of old boys who come into the pub and moan if it's not the Scottish game on the big TV in the bar.

On a separate matter, I enjoyed BT's last 5 penalties graphic during today's Liverpool Stoke game. Nice little touch. I was watching thinking if Simon Mignolet has done his homework, this will be a save.......and it was.

Cheers, that makes more sense. It all seems quite amateurish to me so far, had they managed to clash their own football rights then I would have been staggered. Putting Scottish football up against Sky matches, particularly those from the football league, will be a good tactic.

Does this mean that VM have had to pay a vast sums of money, as if you are not on the XL package you will have to pay £15 per month compared to only £12 on Sky.

Can someone explain as l am confused.

Virgin Media have done a wholesale deal with BT Sports worth £75 million a year over three years to BT but remember you have to have the XL pack or above that to get it free Arthur.

Sky have there first viable competition in TV sports EVER, There will be a bit of "what the hell do we do" and they will try EVERYTHING and take the headless chicken approach until it all calms down and they get a sensible plan of action.

Sky will already be panicking about how much they will have to pay for the Premier League next time the rights are up in 3 years. TV Companys once said "Don't take on Sky, if you do win you'll pay far too much". Maybe BT have thought, we might not win, but we will make sure Sky pay too much.

Was quite impressed with BT`s start to their football coverage. Only the logo and score at the bottom of the screen irratates me a bit. As for 2 games being on at the same time I have a handy device called sky+ which records 1 for me to watch later!

I can go one better than that!!!

I mentioned it not because I wanted to watch both matches but because I found it incredible that they could effectively compete with themselves.

Now that BT Sport has been with us for a few days my own personal view is the footy coverage is decent, pq on HD is superb but beyond the football the schedule is for the lack of a better word....Setanta.

They need to up their game beyond the EPL and SPFL matches IMHO.

To add credence to the fact that BT are a joke...I rang them this morning to add BT Vision to my account with free BT Sports etc etc, anyway, the Sales assistant went through everything, self install, free BT Vision box, free BT Sports....erm,no,"It appears Mr P that you are receiving BT Sport via Sky","Yes" I replied, "Then unfortunately you can not get it for free on BT Vision", "But why" I inquired,"Because we don't support multi-room":confused:........

At this point I could not help but laugh,"But I am not asking for multi-room just add BT Sports to my single BT Vision box"...."Can't do that because we don't have the software to support multi-room".....WTF!,suffice as to say I politely ended the call......Please BT at least give your Staff the correct information for Customers.

what's the point of having BT Sports in London, when there call centre is in INDIA, i am calling them about that damn logo on the screen.

You cannot see the football properly with that logo there. Why dont they do what Sky, BBC, ITV do and have the logo at the top.

---------- Post added at 13:17 ---------- Previous post was at 11:33 ----------

Just spoken with a 'technical expert' at BT Sport (0800 11 4567 if anyone needs to know the BT Sports number).

Accodring to there guy, there have had numerous complaints over these logos, he claims it needs several weeks for a 'programmer' to move it.

neilo 24-08-2013 13:42

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Well they must have pre booked a programmer a couple of weeks ago to move the logo to the top right in last night's Carribean Cricket!

They should be on the top over the crowd rather than on the bottom over the action.

I actually quite like it where it is. It makes a change to all the other logos being up either top right or left. What I don't like is that damned security number in the bottom left of the screen on sky sports when it covers up all the game stats

Could the ever rumored deal between BT Sorts and Boxnation be close?

B0xnation have the rights to show Mayweather Vs. Alvarez on the 14th September. B0xnation have also secured the rights too "Mayweather / Alvarez All Access". This is a 4 part series showing the build up to the fight. Boxnation are showing the first episode this Monday night however I've just noticed something interesting.

BT Sports are showing the first episode of "Mayweather / Alvarez All Access" too! It's being shown on BT Sports 1 Tuesday night 8:30pm, Wednesday morning at 12:30am and Wednesday night at 9:00pm. It's also being shown on BT Sports 2 throughout the week too.

Could a B0xnation / BT Sports deal be on the cards?

That`s a very big loss and it does make you wonder how BT can do any better, doesn`t it?

The thing with ESPN is they might be part of a huge company but did they ever have enough nous to survive in the UK marketplace.

They're part of a multi billion pound company, if they really wanted to they could have easily blown Sky out of the water

Especially given how much more BT have had to pay for the same kind of product.

They will need a lot more varied content for another channel. If there is no football on there is very little else apart from Ruby, but this is only at the weekend.

I've recently downgraded from TV XL to M, but since then it was announced that BT is to be free on XL. I understand it would cost me an extra £15/month to just add BT, or £23 to get XL again. Any ideas whether I might get any deals on these prices (I am a long-standing customer), and if so what is the best email address to use. Thanks.
