I think it due to the following:

Premier Sports maybe want to become part of the XL Pack but Virgin maybe want Premier Sports to become an add on due to the man who runs Premier Sports was one of bosses of Setanta Sports UK.

Quote:

Premier Sports was formed in 2009 by the Irish businessman Michael O'Rourke, a part owner of Setanta Sports Channel Ireland Limited.

You might be right. When Setanta Sports went off air, can you remember how many people were angry posting Virgin must reduce the price of XL or I'm away to SKY etc... I think this forced Virgin to agree a very similar deal with ESPN when it launched.

I can fully understand why Virgin wouldn't want Premier Sports on XL. For me this channel, along with Box Nation should be available to customers on a subscription basis. If you want the channel, you need to pay for it. All though I want both channels, I'd find it very difficult to justify either or both being added to XL. I tried to make a case for Premier Sports being on XL however I have changed my mind.

Looking at all these channels it would at least cost up to a tenner or more and then you can add another tenner on for Boxnation.

i checked on the sky website and i worked out getting all the tv channels they had (only tv, not broadband and calls) come to about £64.

since sky overcharges virgin media, i would say £70-85 at least

Fair enough - I think I could find something else/better to spend £700-£800 a year on

This itv vod advertising deal vm and itv are having, mentioned by media boy about, itv using VM technology be part for the itv hd deal? Also why do Virgin Viewers need to pay £3.50 for Baby TV when Sky Viewers can get it as part of their Family Pack.

NOTE: Baby TV was in the Family pack on Sky last year.

Thats about 2 quid less than I currently pay Virgin for TV, broadband and calls. I left sky because I didn't want to pay more than that for fewer services. I can't see myself ever going back and will be very disappointed if Virgin try to compete on channels with sky at the expense of value for money bundles which include the UK's fastest broadband and largest on demand library.

even if they virgin do accept my XXL tv pack at £70-85, it will still be better value for money than the full sky tv service, you get a far more vod choice than sky, plus unlike sky, you can get, BBC iplayer, 4od, ITV player and Demand 5

last but not least you can get faster broadband on virgin media thank sky, so your VOD choices upload faster

Can someone in the know please clarify the differences between an independant channel launching on SKY and Virgin. Let's take a channel like Scuzz or Dave purely for example purposes.

Does the new channel have to pay SKY for the EPG slot and satellite space whilst Virgin have to actually pay the new channel to join their platform?

Sorry I don't really fully understand the difference between a channel launching on SKY and Virgin. Any info would be great.

a lot of the channels i am suggesting are not crap

i am suggesting more hd channels (like itv 2/3/4 hd, sky news hd, sky sports hd3, hd4 and news hd)

i am suggesting more sports channels (boxnation, premier sports)

i am suggesting more entertainment channels (sky atlantic, cbs drama)

i am suggesting more news channels (nhk world, Al Jazeera English)

and many more good channels

and yes i do think that +1 channels are useful, and it will remain the case until virgin launch a TIVO 3TB 6 tuner set top box

why can't we have both premier sports and preimer sports extra and +1 channels, if you don't want to watch or record +1 channels, then thats up to you, but as far i (some other people) are conserned, i find them useful

i would however like to premier sports and preimer sports extra as soon as possible

Technically something similar should be available very soon.... Multi room streaming ;)

Having two boxes gives you a theoretical 2Tb Storage and 6 tuners to play with.

You need never to leave the house again

But Baby TV was one of the first channels to launch on Telewest after the NTL takeover in 2006.

So cant be long now until Baby TV need the new deal.

I think when Virgin Media fix the bugs with the TiVo and drop the price a bit, Sky will have a harder fight.

Dont count them out yet:)

and anyway, i can't own 100% of virgin media incorporated for 2 reasons:

1: i would need £11 billion

2: Richard Branson is unlikely to give up his stake in virgin media

but if i did then i would lanuch the XXL TV pack

but would i run it better

unlikely!

Virgin Media is an alternative to Sky, it does not have to compete and defeat Sky in order to be a viable business otherwise BT, Smallworld and all the rest would be bankrupt.

If you want all those channels, get Sky. If you don't want Sky, wait.

Get Sky TV as well. In life if you want better its either not available or you pay for it, in this situation its both.

and other thing, even if virgin media defeat sky, it will be the end of sky, smallworld, freeview, freesat and bt as not everyone needs hundreds of channels and very fast internet and great vod

it will just be the case that virgin media is better than them
