The excitment of it all is starting to wain and I'm wondering if I can be bothered to pay the £150 up front cost anyway.

3 days this week at about 6pm i've had the phone go, when i answer it there is nobody there. Even leaving it for time to click through to person (30s or so) there is no one there. Number with held... However i don't think it's VM.

I am an exisiting XL customer, have registered and was sent the ticket etc but have not had a phone call or anything. I`m not an exisiting S1 customer or anything. On the TiVo community forum there was a Manchester phone no quoted for VM which some folks claimed had resulted in them getting an install. I phoned this no a few days ago and explained that I was an exisiting XL customer etc and could I have a TiVo. It was explained to me that I would not be able to have a box until 1st April and that if I phoned back then they would be able to sort it.

Re: TiVo

There is no confusion apart from everyone here expecting a call at the same time. Staff have a few times mentioned pre reg customers will get called by the end of March and those eventually chosen for the 1000 free TiVo installs will also be called before then.

TiVo is coming and as a few people in the last few days have stated there are installs getting booked and calls being made.

What is confusing is the fact people who have been offered free TIVO haven't been told they've won , some have had emails saying they'll be contacted shortly , some told end of March , CEO office saying it's being rolled out by area , how more confusing can it be. Mersey70 was offered a box he hadn't pre registered and didn't want it.

As has been posted in this very thread. The CEO office were in correct its not rolling out by area. They would have been told by the end of March. Not the end of March.

If they aren't being told they have won then they are probably VIP customers or the team are just forgetting to mention they are winners.

Rally not confusing at all. But everyone here seems to be adding 2+2 and getting 7.

You must admit though it's bad when the CEO office are providing incorrect information.

Re: TiVo

Right I will tell you my story if you are all sitting comfortably?

1- I registered interest when the site first went up.
2- When the 1000 remotes went out I contacted the CEO office and it was passed to Cindy Rose, and she asked for my account number to make sure that I was in the new draw.
3- Received the e-mail saying that TV heaven is just weeks away.
4- Then received the unique ref number as a e-mail and registered it on the site.
5- When I received the call the Lady did not mention anything about the draw and that I had won one? She also mentioned that so long as that I was on the VIP 50 pack i would not be charged the £3 per month for TIVO.

P.S she also said that my details had been passed to her from the loyalty department.

Hope that this is some clarification for some on here?

So if you did not get the points 3 and 4, it would seem that this is not the raffle for the normal as I am sure there is a post on this thread that there was a different one for for the VIP customers? Will try and find the post ( may take a while due to the amount of pages on here? )

This is exactly the same experience as mine, except part 3 which my wife did but I didn't, can't be a coincidence ;)

Re: TiVo

Well, after missing the phone call yesterday I did get another one not long after I got in from work tonight :)

So I'm now a very happy customer, free TiVo and no £3 subs for 12 months (Not on VIP)

I did quiz the CS rep asking if I was lucky enough to win the recent draw and he said no as he was ringing from the customer loyalty team and I had been selected as a valued customer.

However as the conversation went on it sounded more like I had won as he said 'There are only a 1000 people getting TiVo for free' and 'Around 4,500 people entered'

If I'm honest I wasn't going to grill the man any further in case he took my TiVo away from me :D

Requested next available Saturday for install which was 26th March, to be honest this did me a favour as hopefully the 3rd tuner will be active by then.

Now the controversial information (please no one shoot me down in flames)

1. Package I have is XL TV inc. Sky Sports, L BB & M phone so not a very high paying customer compared to some. However my contract finished Feb last year.
2. Registered for TiVo a little late, mid January I believe. Partly not being able to find my A/c number and partly forgetting to do it.
3. Got the raffle flyer and registered it well before the cut off date.

Keep the faith people, I'm sure your phone calls will come :)

Let the conspiracy theories commence

Thanks for that. Been reading this forum for ages, and thought it time I made my presence known.

Tivo looks really good, although as much as I'd like it, I have to admit that unless I receive a free one in the 'raffle', won't be able to afford it for a while yet - especially now that prices are going up anyway....

Been with Cable & Wireless, Nynex and now Virgin for years - paid for it at my parents before I moved into my own house - and never had any real issues, at least ones that haven't been able to be sorted out quickly.

Anyway - fingers crossed for TIVO....... :)

To be honest I can't really knock virgin myself i've got a great phone service a great t.v service a great mobile phone service and lastly a fantastic broadband service. So I only need a TiVo box to top it all off. As digital stated I've got till the end of March to be contacted so my fingers will be kept crossed for a call.

Another day another call at 5:30 with no one on the other end, annoying gits whoever they are.

With the number of people being now offered it free it does beg the question as to what the criteria is for this loyalty offer..

Which of course leads to the conclusion that if you don't get it free you must not be that important :erm:

I still think that all VIP customers should be getting it free, to make VIP of value again, but i guess that won't happen until they hit the point when people are turning down £149 installs.

From a personal point of view, with the prospect of moving on the table and so many "valued" customers getting it free, if i ever get a call, and i'm asked to pay, i'll politely turn it down. By the time we get installed now, my TVdrive is currently full of stuff i want to watch so not losing that.

Thanks muppetman. That's the best review I've seen.

I called into our local VM retail store on Monday and one of the staff kindly spend some time showing me their TiVo. I have to say I was impressed.

I'm sure I have read that it automatically deletes older suggestions to record what is set up in the EPG if the drive is full.

Found it

http://www.virginmedia.com/tivo/tivo_complete_guide.pdf

Page 20 And you can turn off auto record if you want.

BenJSmyth 04-03-2011 14:59

Re: TiVo

Yes it does do that. It will delete things out of your deleted recordings folder and out of the suggestions to make way for planned recordings to take place. And it won't record a suggestion over a planned recording if it would mean too many tuners are in use - if that makes sense. I've not worded that very well!

Most HD channels are simulcast ones, with the odd exception.

My question, therefore, is can you not 'programme' the channels it 'monitors'?
(Maybe under the guise of Favourites, and specifying only to monitor Favourite channels)

i.e remove BBC1, ITV, Ch4, 5 etc, leaving their HD counterparts as 'the only choice'

Or does it merely go by your subscription level ?
i.e. I don't have SkyMovies so it won't be attempting to record films off SkyMovies (I should hope it doesn't)

It goes by what channels you sub to. It doesn't record channels you don't sub to either.

I watched the video and while the menus weren't lightning , they really weren't that slow. V+ is sluggish on some of the on demand screens and I have the Samsung which is the faster of the two.

Yeah, on demand is probably the slowest area, but this is because its connecting to the VoD server.

The TIVo I used in the VM shop wasn't slow , although I did only have a little play around with it.

I can not wait for mine to be installed ( no offence to anybody ) despite the few glitches that have been mentioned on various forums as they seem to be getting sorted. Also on the TIVO Community forum some one has said that they came home and the box was recording 2 programmes and he/she was able to watch a third ( so it seems that they maybe testing the third tuner? ).

I registered my interest in Tivo on the 1st of December and here we are in March and still nothing has happened and what do l see on Virgins home page then asking people to register for the Tivo,
l find that crazy as we already have utter chaos and shambolicness with people registering in December with the vast majority of loyal customers treated very poorly by Virgin who have seen fit to have given Tivos to customers who have hardly been with the company too long and then to have this stupid raffle which suits basically a tiny majority.
This Tivo rollout has been rolled out in a amateurish and shambolic way in my mind.

If you’re interested, you don’t need to do a thing. We’ll be in touch around the end of March to let you know how you can get the TiVo service before it goes on general sale. For now, you can sit back, relax and wait for all the good stuff to come to you.

The worrying thing about this is it makes me think it may just be another email by the end of March.

I also registered my interest 1 Dec and am on vip package quad play and long term customer 12 years and was lucky enough to be 1 of the 1000.
So that suggests that there was some form of selection on the 1000 selected.

Stephen are u aware whether this contact before the end of March is just going to be another email , because i'd like to think if I'm going to get installed in April that this would have to be booked by the end of March.

Like Stephen says you have to give them until the end of March I just hope its not an email telling people to ring and order , imagine the wait times and you wouldn't be happy if you registered on the 1st day but were installed after someone who registered today.

Actually, I wouldn't be bothered, as it is just a piece of kit - do we really think VM will be able to install between 10,000 and 100,000 plus boxes in a month.

I think people need to re-set their expectations to a more realistic base...

l will wait till the end of march but l will be very unhappy if people who register now get their Tivo before customers who registered in December, this would alienate a awful lot of customers who already feel unhappy about the Tivo fiasco.

Why are peoples expectations wrong , it say priority installs before new customers , which would push the launch to new customers back.

Hang on Stephen it was Virgin who in their wisdom got peoples expectations high on December the 1st, if they can,t cope with this then they should not in the first place asked people to register, as far as l am concerned Virgin have made a almighty mess of it and many customers are already unhappy about this, as the old saying goes if you can,t stand the heat get out of the kitchen.

But then you have the tension between long-term customers, VIP customers, long-term customers who are VIP customers, etc etc...

Whatever priority VM do it in, it will annoy somebody - lose/lose for VM.

And, at the end of the day, it's not life or death, just a fancy new PVR.

The furore around this reminds me of the quote about student politics - "the debates gets so heated because the stakes are so low". :D

Hugh, not Stephen - you have me confused with a VM employee....;)

Where did VM set the expectation about who would get the box first? People made assumptions, and then treated those assumptions as facts, and then started getting irate about things that VM never said or promised (to the best of my knowledge).

Calm down, and carry on....:D

Virgin quite clearly led customers who pre-reg in december that they would be the first to get the Tivo and no defending from certain forum members can change that belief.

Big-Ted 05-03-2011 13:09

Re: TiVo

.

From a conversation I had with the CEO's office midweek the current state is the people will be contacted by the end of the month letting them know how to get the TiVo.

It was stated that those who had registered on the December 1st page would be offered installs before anyone else.

It was not possible to say what the system would be but that pre registered would definitely get it first.

My thinking after this was that depending on how many in a region had registered they would for low numbers contact direct and for higher numbers probably send an email with link to an online form or a number to call so that those who decided not to go ahead wouldn't get called and those who want it get called quicker.

It was also said that a couple of regions had many more registrations than the lowest so some regions may be open for non registered before higher demand regions but this was only due to how many installs are possible at a time in a region.

Hope this puts some peoples minds at rest on some of their worries.

OMG Its March the 5th and I registered on the 1st December and have not had a phone call about TIVO. Thats it my world is coming to and end, I cant go on with my poor V+ and only having 3 tuners, HD and all that on Demand. How am I going to continue with this small Hard Drive which is forcing me to watch programmes when I recored them virtually in the same week in case I fill the Hard Drive up. Oh it truly is the most disastrous things to ever happen to the Human Race, I CANT TAKE NO MORE................

Then they should employ more staff to cope with the demand of customers wanting Tivo, its clear to me Virgin never had any clear plan at all or at best it was a ad hoc plan.

It quite clearly states on our intranet (internal staff web) Existing customer pre regs will be installed before any other customers. This is a fact and they should be done in order date.

There have been a a few VIP / triple XL customers (about 4,000) plus the TiVo competition winners who will also be called/installed at the same time.

Pre regs are definately being contacted first and having their installs done before any new customers. That is the internal statement.
