Why would you post that online? Social media / forums have a lot to answer for. Not quite sure what you're expecting in replies, unless fishing for attention it just seems odd.

Not quite sure how you think this reply will help someone going through a serious mental health episode. Mark posting that message isn't strange to me as people going through stuff like he is often do/ say/ type things the rest of us think odd.

Fair enough. If he asked for help or advice then he would have got a different answer. I would have thought 'warning' a forum would be the last thing on anyone's mind unless for a specific reason. But that's just the way I see it . Like I said social media / forums have a lot to answer for.

Kinda glad he didn't ask for help or advice, forums are not the place for amateur psychiatry

I doubt anyone here would offer anything like that. I'd like to think if warranted they'll point him in the right direction and to seek proper advice / help from his GP or whoever. Or if someone with a similar experience to offer their words of wisdom which can really help.

I do see there is a lot of pandering on this forum (and everywhere else for that matter) which just fuels people's needs. But people are becoming so gullible to it unfortunately.

On the other hand, he may just be warning people he is going off line as some people do notice that so and so hasn't been on in a few days and ask questions, whether publicly or via PM.

That said, we do have people post details of their medical conditions that I would personally consider private. I've a friend on facebook (who is also a friend off line). She is having a few physical issues, despite only being in her early 40s, and posts details of all of them on facebook, to which they usually get the typical "U OK hun?" replies.

I've got some medical conditions (nothing too bad and nothing life threatening), and I've posted nothing about them on facebook, and only minimal details on here.

I agree, and where I see anyone offering or asking medical advice, I do advise them to seek professional help, but we would need hard and fast rules to try and stop it. Where do you draw the line? Someone asking for cold remedies? Someone asking for details of a serious condition? Hell, even advising someone to take Aspirin for a headache could kill them.

First of let me congratulate you on speaking up about your mental health issues all too many hide their illness, I suspect because of social stigma and this needs to change.

To be able to talk about your experience on your mental health is something that you should feel proud about, never embarrassed or fearful of what others may think or say.

The way I see it if your suffer from any other medical condition and seek medical help people tend to wish you well, why should mental health be any different?

Why shouldn't someone who suffers from mental health not talk about it, after all were not ashamed when our bodies get sick, so why should we be ashamed when our minds aren’t in top form?

With any illness Mark recovery is a series of steps and the first step is forward :hugs:

I agree it's good to talk. But he didn't talk about his experience of mental health.

The trouble with mental health it is an illness that most sufferers (myself included) can't or won't talk about it, not because they don't want to either.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with what you say but I hope you don't see me being callous in my reply to him. Just taking it at face value and that I personally see it as being odd / usual. As you know full well that I'd help in anyway I can / could.

Not at all peanut I know you fairly well through the CF and the very useful help and advice that you have given me in regards to our own medical condition.

I have always found you both helpful and polite and my view has not changed.

In regards to Mark he has spoken of his own battle in the past so his post was not strange to myself and I hope and pray that his battle becomes less and less and his journey becomes easier with help that he is getting.

I class Mark like yourself helpful and polite to myself, please accept my apologies if you felt my post was directed at you it was not.

I wrote only to support my friend Mark and his journey ahead.
