Could this see ITV Encore launch on Virgin Media?

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/liberty-ta...0.html#5rloRBx

"The owner of Virgin Media was in advanced talks on Wednesday night to buy a stake in ITV in a deal that would seal BSkyB's exit from the commercial broadcaster's share register."

If people really want Atlantic most have said they'd pay a extra couple of quid to get it, simple solution nowtv + entertainment pack for £4.99p/m = Sky Atlantic.

sky signed a contract for a exclusive deal period that will not change so VM got to wait till that runs out

True however the article suggests:

"It is unclear whether Liberty Global, which bought Virgin Media last year, would view the purchase of a minority stake in ITV as a passive investment or as the prelude to discussions aimed at collaborating in areas such as content and distribution."

Whilst ITV Encore as a channel is exclusive to SKY, would Virgin be able to show the channels programming on an on demand basis?

He hates CNN, so he might even shut it down if he got his hands on it.

Other companies were talking to TW including Comcast and Google, so we may yet still see a deal done. There will almost certainly be more consolidation to come in the media/telecoms/cable cos business in the States.

Oh yes, in the analogue days Ted Turner hated Murdoch so much that for many years he preferred to keep TNT and Cartoon Network FTA than encrypt them and take a cut of the Sky Multichannels subscription fee.

depend if any none sky channel deals can be done Vince after SS 5 there only 2 sky channel to get and we know we got no chance of SA

After the addition of Sky News HD and Sky Sports News HD, I think we will be just be missing Sky 1 +1, Pick +1, Sky Vegas and Sky 3D (the last one is currently being wound down).

They could buy themselves out of the contract as E4 did when they decided to go in the clear on Freeview. I think it's much more likely that they would ask for it to be added immediately at the end of the exclusivity period.

I am sure that ITV Encore will launch on VM, but not until the expiry of the exclusivity period, for which a legally binding contract applies.

Following the 4K discussion yesterday, I found this article

http://recombu.com/digital/news/virg...al_M12956.html

"The chances of Virgin Media customers watching 4K Ultra HD anytime soon took a tumble following remarks made by the firm's owners.

Liberty Global president and chief executive Mike Fries said that Ultra HD was "not an immediate concern" for viewers, especially as it comes hot on the heels of HD
."

I dont think us VM TV customers need to buy a 4K tv anytime soon :-(
Its a shame, but as there is virtually no 4K content available, it makes sense for VM to bide their time.

I thought I remember reading on here that the original programmes were to be broadcast once the exclusivity period was over....Or was I just imagining that??

Is there many TV channels of value left for VM to get except of course SKY Atlantic and a half dozen HD variant channels like History?

I don't think there is to be honest.

VM have done amazingly well to get to the line-up they have today. To get the remaining HD variants that we are missing would be amazing, I do hope they manage to secure them soon.

I might be pushing my luck, but having a HD variant of all the channels on the VM EPG would blow Sky out of the water even if we were missing Sky Atlantic.

Nope, not that you would think it from the comments sometimes. All sky have left is a bunch of channels which are of little to no interest to vast numbers of people. I don't watch half the channels available to me as it is.

Even though I don't watch the channels, I think VM cater very well to most ethnic minorities in the country as well. there may be more channels they could launch to serve more ethnic minorities, but I am not sure if there are any missing.

I like my HD, so I would live universal and nat geo wild HD to launch. I am not worried about any of the other channels though.
