Any news about 3D content from the BBC for the winter Olympics or any other provider?

The BBC will not be doing any 3D Content, can't see any others doing it as I believe only Eurosport have rights, but again, don't think they will.

For the Winter Paralympics you don't stand a chance of 3D coverage.

Last i read the BBC have basically scrapped 3D. Most channels across the world seem to be dropping it so you might struggle finding one for the winter olympics.

Well, according to this link, it clearly states
"“Sochi 2014 will be the first Winter Games broadcast in 3D; we are already working very closely with our colleagues at Panasonic to ensure optimum technical delivery"

Does not mention the BBC though.

However, as I do not have a 3d TV, I dont really care !

It great opportunity for 3D to take off, sports lends itself to the format. Can you imagine Ice Hockey in 3D, especially when they have a bust up:)

I can't help thinking that 3D in the home is dead in the water, I did actually go out and buy a 3D TV, thinking Discovery Channel would be great, etc. I think in two years I've used it twice, too much of a faff!. Fortunately it's a great TV without the 3D so not too much of a waste. Just my opinion.

That link is 2 years old and says channels like NBC will be doing it in 3D yet i can't find any confirmation of that online. They did the London Olympics in 3D but seems they've also dropped it now too.

More content would perhaps change that, I was hooked on 3D when I watch football in my local pub. Adds a completely new dimension to set-pieces, corners etc. There are a number of winter sports that can be mundane, but 3D could change that? I know its not for everyone, but I think some 3D content would be welcome by most.

The last fixtures of the Premiership are played on the 11th May. The rest of the big games that month are free on TV. The Europa League, Champions League and FA Cup finals are all live on ITV with the Scottish Cup final live on BBC Scotland. Then into June and July the BBC and ITV will cover all 64 games of the World Cup.

Of course it's not just football that we're being treated too this summer:

F1 (Spanish Grand Prix) - 11th May (BBC)
The French Open - 25th May to 8th June (ITV)
F1 (Canadian Grand Prix) - 8th June (BBC)
The Queen's Club Championships - 9th June to 15th June (BBC)
Wimbledon - 23rd June to 6th July (BBC)
Tour de France - 5th July to 27th July (ITV)
F1 (British Grand Prix) - 6th July (BBC)
The Open Championship - 13th July to 20th July (BBC)
The Commonwealth Games - 23rd July to 3rd August (BBC)
The European Athletics Championships - 10th to 17th August (BBC)
F1 (Belgian Grand Prix) - 24th August (BBC)

With the new season of the Premiership not due to start until September 2014, and a wide range of top quality sport free in HD on terrestrial television, it's certainly worth considering cancelling SKY Sports in May, June, July and August and saving yourself a small fortune.

Unfortunately the reality is that if enough people decide to cancel Sky Sports for the summer, they will simply put their prices up.

I agree. Until they find a way of bringing us 3D without the stupid glasses, it will simply not catch on.

I fear that the ability to project holographic images from the TV is a little way off yet. However, I think that will be much more popular.

Slightly off topic but I actually I find 3D TV best for games, I found out I couldn’t help but close my eyes when driving through bushes on MotorStorm 3D on my son’s PS3.

If, this very hypothetical situation was to happen, then more fool those who pay the extra for it.:)

The channels were all broadcasting - but the satellite services (which is where VM get it from) were off.

So unavailable on Sky/Freesat and Virgin - Freeview and Internet feeds were still running

But all back now
