I was won of them. It would seem that anyone who goes head to head with Sky ends up paying far to much even if they do win TV rights. I believe John Malone has said this of the Dark lord himself;)

Does anyone know if BT have won exclusive UK rights to the Italian, French and MLS leagues, or are ESPN theoretically still allowed to show them after BT start - assuming for now ESPN do continue broadcasting.

Apparently NRL will make an announcement tomorrow in regards to their British broadcast partner for 2013 / 2014 season. Premier Sports have bid however there are rumours that BT might have landed the rights ahead of them.

"BT intends to launch its new sports channel on Sky as well, adopting the same model Setanta Sports used several years ago whereby Sky carries the channel but subscribers deal directly with the owner.

ESPN, the current secondary broadcaster of Premier League games uses a model whereby subscribers buy the channel directly from Sky who then pay ESPN.

Negotiations over this, and a wholesale agreement with Virgin Media, where they sell the channel onto customers, are ongoing."

I know. The original poster asked "Wholesale for VM?"

I was just posting a link to help him understand what this might mean.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

BT Sport target Rio Ferdinand

Rio Ferdinand, whose Manchester United contract expires at the end of the season, has been offered the opportunity to become BT Sport’s main football pundit.

The TV network want a marquee football name as their leading analyst after paying £738million for the rights to 38 Premier League games in each of the next three seasons, and Ferdinand would be their first choice if he decides to retire.

Ferdinand, who is heavily involved in a number of his own media projects, is understood to have other broadcasting offers, too.

But the central defender, 34, is still a first choice for United manager Sir Alex Ferguson - if not England - when fit.

And it would be a surprise if he hangs up his boots so soon to start a
TV career.

Meanwhile the much-travelled James Beattie, now playing for Accrington Stanley, is said to have impressed in pundit screen-tests for BT, though they will want a bigger name for their top-flight coverage.

They would do much better if they went for the excellent James Richardson.
