Re: Samsung Galaxy S3

Since my phone has come back from repair with a new main board, wifi traffic doesn't go above 300kb/s. Thinking it is a hardware issue but not sure, just not ready to send it off to repair just yet :(

My 4S got smashed the other day so I'm borrowing an S3 for a while but it takes forever to charge - I put it on overnight and it went from 5% to 70% in 5 hours. Was this issue ever resolved? Online I can see people saying it's likely to be the USB cable as the standard issue one is pretty rubbish but was wondering if there are reports of it being anything else?

That is a long time, mine takes about 2 hours to fully charge. I'm using the kindle plug with a htc USB lead but not sure if that does anything different than using the plug supplied. Strange but obviously something is wrong. Is the phone old, could be a worn out battery maybe.

The Kindle charger, awesome idea, I didn't think of that! If you google "S3 taking a long time to charge" you'll see it's very common .

What charger are you using?

On any standard USB port it will only charge at standard USB speeds - USB power outputs are very limited.

The Samsung phones will only charge at full speed - which is several times over the maximum limit of USB - if it detects an appropriate Samsung charger.

Not so sure that's true. Part of the reason that Samsung chargers are quicker is that they are higher rated.

My S4 charger is 2A, compared to 500mA for the USB standard

Some Samsung devices such as Tablets are bit picky I believe, as are most Apple devices, but Samsung phones aren't. I bought at 3.6A car charger and my S4 has no problem with it, and it definately charges quicker than on a standard USB computer port.

I was using the supplied S3 usb cable. Swapped it over for my Kindle lead last night and it charged up quickly, job done.

Jelly Bean 4.3 now available via Kies.

Takes about 15-20 mins then Kies updates to V3

Guys, is it best not to install this update considering all the negative reports or is it ok now?

It's also available OTA, at least on an unlocked phone. Settings->About Phone->Software Update.

I'd wait till they release 4.3.1 at least.

The S3 as far as I can see are having some major probs with this update.

TBH it won't be 4.3.1 as that will be an Android update

By the looks of it, it's a Samsung issue with their customisations, so will be a different firmware version from them
