And they should be IMO. I bet they are the problem. I know they want the best deal, but they don't seem to act the same when negotiating with Sky.

I just finished my shift in the Wythenshawe call centre we have had 50 -60 calls queuing all day all about bt sports

On Thursday I said in my e-mail virgin are having a football day we have been told to dress as footballers.

there has been about 12 e-mails flying about for overtime on Thursday for retention calls the more we save the more tickets we get to Manchester united Manchester city matches.

we have also been told that a video conference will happen with bt at 22.15 tonight from hook in Hampshire.

in the retentions department we have been told that if a customer really wants to leave we may be able to offer sky sports half price for 6 months but not in hd. or a broadband upgrade or spotify free

our comms department are saying that virgin is looking to launch bt on the 17th august

I have spoken to the network team (head end ) Bromley they told me they have been told to allocate 4 channels for the 12th August for a slate and when I was messing around on our test boxes hear in the faults dept. channels 992 993 both showing a picture of the bt tower in London saying (bt feed ) mpeg

This is from my insider in Manchester. (C) 2013 Asian Channel

Hi, I am new to the forum, although I have read posts for many weeks.
Just thought I would let you know that I chatted to one of the employyes on the BT website, as follows:

We are now routing you to one of our chat team...
Welcome to BT, the most complete broadband provider. You are now connected with Elizabeth.
Dougie: I am currently with virgin and want BT sport, I imagine it will not be available on that platform?
Elizabeth: Unfortunately not at the moment
Dougie: But they are in talks at the moment - so I imagine I will have to wait and see?
Elizabeth: We do plan to introduce this but we do not have a date for this at the moment
Dougie: I understand - but is this likely to be sooner rather than later. I dont mind paying for it on Virgin?
Elizabeth: I unfortunately do not have any idea when it will be available at the moment

Of course, the money saved from not paying for ESPN will probably cover any lost customers. From a business point of view, not adding Bt sport probably means reasonable sense.

The main point is that ESPN in the XL package was a great deal. Cant see many people leaving to be 15 quid for it elsewhere (it is NOT worth it)

Its a fine balance though. They have to look at the whole customer base and not just the people who want x y and z.

This has been said a number of times - VM have been growing their customer base faster than Sky for a number of qtrs. even without Sky Atlantic. They will continue to grow their customer base without BT Sports.

So they have to make a shrewd calculation and if BT want more than VM' s calculation the VM will tell them to bugger off

BT surely cant expect many Virgin customers moving to them. As their TV channels are very few with virtually no HD. Is it worth it for a years free BT sport ?

People just won't be leaving in their droves over this. Let's take as an example the person most desperate to get the new Bt channels - you. You're not leaving, but instead are hooking up your old Sky box. From Virgin's point of view they keep you as a customer and save the money they were paying ESPN out of your monthly subs. So Virgin are quids in. Like I say, from a business point of view, this probably make sense - people like you are the reason why.

Didnt get through to retentions but guy I spoke to to clarify the position said we are still in talks, pointed out you've been in talks for Atlantic for two years. He did seem to concede. Said I could hold for retentions but I may have to wait a while to get through as they were very busy. Had to go to football but think I'll call them Monday when I'm off work. :(

I was going to sign up to VIP though, as figured the daddy of all packages would have bt sport. but I won't be if they don't get it. I'll be doing a much lesser package. Probably just keep what we have now and add ss1 and ss2, plus a tivo box for my room. So they're actually losing quite a bit of money from me. Which i will be paying some of to BT Sport instead.

Nice try though. Almost worked.

It's a shame that Virgin do not seem to of fought harder for this to be resolved sooner, and give the people who want these channels what they want at the same time as Sky.

It's not like BT Sport was only announced last week, I would think it would of been a priority to make sure these were available at launch, as you obviously have the customers that want to watch the sports they will offer.

Are you serious? The channels we have lost are sports channels that included the EPL. Sky Atlantic, Unversal HD, etc cannot possibly replace them. As for Disney HD, and SSN HD, who cares? VM never had them, so no loss.

Maybe not everybody choice but at least it would be something to replace and justify keeping xl pack at same price

Regrettably, I suspect you're right. What is difficult to understand is that if they're not sports fans, why are they bleating so much about th loss of the ESPN channels?

again with the same bizarre, bewildering logic. people don't want any old <mod edit - Chris - do not swear> just to say they've 'replaced'. they want their live Premier League, they want their Moto GP, and they want their UFC :banghead:

As a number of members have already observed a lot of us are sports fans and don't detest football, we just have a more realistic attitude to how and when (and at what cost) VM may be able to obtain BT Sports - VM aren't in the business of getting any channel at any price just because a vociferous minority want it, they are in the business of making a profit and will drive for the best deal they can, if they can't get it at the right price for them then you won't get it however much you moan.

I've put this very same point to them, and they just ignored me and called me names instead. they only stopped when a moderator took my side.

Alot of them want channels replaced, that they admittedly didn't even watch. Night of the crazies in this place. Be on your guard.

One even compared the importance of reruns of 24, to live premier league football. and got tons of replies saying "yeah, spot on mate" et al.

I am a big football fan, but will not pay £15 for BT sports. Especially for the limited games they have.

No. Sky Atlantic, UNiversal HD, and especially SSN HD, etc cannot possibly replace what ESPN provided - sport - especially the EPL. I, for one, will not continue to pay the XL premium after having the only reason I pay for it is no longer available.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2013) Vol. 3.

Personally I've never watched ESPN, and have no interest in football, however I hope Virgin get BT Sports and add it to the XL pack. I don't want to watch the channels, but for me they represent part of the diverse value proposition of the XL pack.

While these channels aren't interesting to me it would not seem fair for Virgin to add channels I like in preference to what other people want (I'm really not that important). So hopefully Virgin will get the channels soon... And then they can get channels I'm interested in. That said I don't know what channels I want other than more HD (e.g. if I must endure the Disney channel I might as well see Mickey in HD).

I agree, for me they have the worst time slot of the weekend aswell. No chance I would pay for the channel when Sky Sports already show so many games.

So do a deal and let us know the price. We can then make a personal choice on whether, or not, it represents value for money.

Financially Virgin will be hit hard if they don't get BT sports, combined with no reduction in XL price they have made a lot of people very angry. If they don't pull this off there will be many leaving.

I prefer the earlier Sat slot, I'm normally home that time and out and about later so I used to miss a lot of the ESPN games. Sunday is the best day for to have slots in my view. A good thing BR have is all the Xmas, Easter and bank holiday slots which is where they have a lot of first picks too.

... for what it's worth as we won't be seeing it on VM

Agreed.

Also I question anyone who says they're an avid sports fan but refuses to pay for it. Can't be that big a fan then if you are willing to miss your team in action. An avid fan of something does not miss his team/player/artist in action and would not see the lack of BT Sport, with some of the excellent content they've aquired, as acceptable. the end.

Not everyone can afford to pay for all of this premium content. I think it's a bit over the top to suggest that anyone that doesn't shell out for both a Sky Sports and BT Sport subscription isn't a "true" fan.

Cant see many leaving, Virgin are not stupid:
Would you join BT, just for one EPL game per week (and very little else in their TV schedules)?
Would you join Sky and pay an extra £15 per month (and inferior broadband)?

I do see my team in action each week - I support my local team which, not surprisingly, doesn't get the air time a Premiership team does but just because I support them doesn't make me any the less an avid sports fan - in fact, as I get off my bum and go to watch live football probably makes me more of a football fan than those people who support a "big" team who they've never seen live.

Funny how competition over content eventually costs the customer more to watch it. Well done ofcom

My thoughts on the BT Sport saga - the best possible deal I think is for it to be included with the Sky Sports package. Not getting my hopes up though.
