We got what we deserved mate, nothing. You had more fight and passion than us. I've got no complaints over the "handball" either. The gooners winning by 2 puts us back in second, which is a better end to the day than I expected. Beating the Aussies today was fantastic as well!

You've said some daft things but this is really up there. Every time a London based rival loses you're in here berating their players or managers. If they've beaten spurs you hide for half a year. You made a prediction that Spurs would beat Arsenal 7-0 and they ended up beating you. You still haven't offered an explanation on that yet..

YESSSS!!!! Great result. Needed a win really to avoid being the crisis club. Also gives us some distance from the chasing pack which is vital considering the run we have coming up.

Was never a red card. There were covering defenders. Yes it was intentional, it was a cyclical attempt to stop a counter attack. Liverpool did it to us as well in the game but it was further back and hence a card was avoided. A yellow was a deserved card.

Liverpool were always going to struggle when they finally came up against one of the top sides. ;)

I think that is right. Still long way to go, and the question is still open about winning the league, which was the question asked.

Yes. Personally I think we will fall short of winning the league. I think Chelsea and Manchester City have so much depth in their squad that they'll have an edge over us as the season goes on. It might even be better that we exit the Champions League in the group stage as opposed to having those tiring and all consuming matches in February. Traditionally we've picked up quite a lot of injuries in those and had a confidence blow. It would be better to have entire weeks off whilst Chelsea, City and United have to deal with those games instead.

I do think Arsenal are where Dortmund were at a few years ago. There is some obvious promise there and if we can keep the squad and manager together. Let some of the other younger players mature in the way Ramsey and Gibbs have done (mostly Chamberlain and Jenkinson) add a striker we'll have a shot next year or the year after. As long we challenge in that time I'll be happy.

I will change my view on Mourinho being sacked by Chelsea. After today l have given up on Spurs boss AVB.

You have Defoe on the bench, and Soldado NOT scoring again. I didn't see him anywhere near scoring. He has scored Penalties, and ONE goal from open play.

I just hope that Levy will get tough on AVB. How can you keep a goal scorer just watching the game and Soldado just on the pitch and just waiting. Bad buy in my opion.

That's twice now suprs have allowed a player to carry on playing with possible concussion after being knocked out. Surely the physios/doctors know the dangers of doing this? Especially today Lloris shouldn't have been allowed to play on surely?

It shouldn't be up to the ref, the club/physio/doctor should take care of their players, not put them in danger like this. AVB is saying Lloris said he was ok to continue, so they let him! What a ridiculous situation, the physio/doctor should be sacked for allowing that to happen.

AVB is as overrated as they come. You should have known this and what he'd do to spurs after his master plan backfired at Chelsea and had them playing some of the worst football you'll see. I may not rate defoe enough to replace Rooney for England but he can finish a lot better than Soldado that's for sure.

TBH it looked to me as though at least one member of the Spurs medical team was doing his best to get him off, he even spoke to the ref but if he insisted on staying on then AVB should have pulled him on the advice of the medical staff.

SUAREZ TO SPAIN?
Hi Guillem. I love your column. Is there any truth in Real Madrid trying to sign Luis Suarez? As a Liverpool fan I really hope not but he could certainly perform on that stage. Thanks, Brian

GUILLEM SAYS: Real Madrid do need a striker and they are trying to sort it out by getting Karim Benzema to fire on all cylinders again - and the mixture of the backing from Zinedine Zidane, the backing from Carlo Ancelotti and the competition from Alvaro Morata is certainly helping and we saw a better Benzema against Rayo Vallecano at the weekend. Ancelotti feels that a striker of Luis Suarez's mould would be good for the team but I don't think they have the funds and Suarez has said it is an exciting season at Liverpool and he does not see any reason to leave, especially in a World Cup year.

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Yohan Cabaye to Roma in January's window apparently. Newcastle are lining up a loan for Zaha and JFK is currently keeping tabs on Vermalen at Arsenal. Why Joe Kinnear thinks the Arsenal captain would have any interest in joining a side lower than his own is anyone's guess. He's expected to travel to Spain shortly to scout Ronaldo and Messi.

An actual target however is Andre Ayew whom Newcastle tried to sign in the summer. Given Gouffran's current form I'd say they're looking at replacing the ever annoying Hatem Ben Arfa. The 1 game a season winger everyone seems to be interested in.

Best odds are Newcastle lose both Cabaye and HBA without signing a thing. If you discount Callum Wilson who we're expecting to sign from Coventry.

Remy news is spot on what I've said before. There's next to no chance he'll be a Newcastle player next season. £10 million release clause is anyone's for the taking given his current form. I'd expect him to join Liverpool after the sale of Luis Suarez.

He started out wide and then moved to the centre when Rooney came off. No one played well, including him. Although he did set up the best chance of the game which Hernandez somehow managed to blast over the bar from 5 yards out.

First 60 minutes wideish left, poor, moved to a more central right position after Young came on and had a couple of decent touches, a very low key affair all round. :td:

To be honest there was definite contact on Young but it doesn't take much, Van Persie missed the pen anyway and Chico missed an open goal from a few yards out.

United players looked as though they had an important match coming up, played at less than 75% all game.

"Shinji Kagawa is one of the best players in the world and he now plays 20 minutes at Manchester United – on the left wing! My heart breaks. Really, I have tears in my eyes. Central midfield is Shinji's best role. He's an offensive midfielder with one of the best noses for goal I ever saw. But for most Japanese people it means more to play for Man United than Dortmund. We cried for 20 minutes, in each others' arms, when he left."

Portsmouth/Southampton rivalry.

Although I fail to see how it compares to Hillsborough...

thenry 06-11-2013 22:15

Re: Football Season 2013/14 & Summer Window

Quote:

Portsmouth supporters, and occasionally those of other clubs, refer to Southampton supporters as "****" or "scummers". According to some Portsmouth fans, the term "****" developed out of an acronym standing for Southampton City (or Corporation) Union Men, with the term allegedly originating from when Southampton dockyard workers supposedly crossed the picket lines in the 1930s when Portsmouth dockyard workers were on strike. However this story is unlikely, as the two cities rely on entirely different types of ports — Southampton being a merchant port and Portsmouth, a naval one. There is also no known record of any strike occurring during the mentioned time period. Rather, this seems to be a modern attempt to incorrectly describe the origins of the rivalry.[5]

Southampton supporters have taken to referring to their local rivals as "Skates". This is a derisive alternative to "matelot" to describe naval sailors, Portsmouth being the home of the Royal Navy. This term is in fact originally a dismissive one for sailors, possibly originating in Portsmouth, which most Southampton fans have adopted. It was made popular as an abusive term towards Portsmouth fans after a Southampton fanzine asked readers to help search for the term most likely to cause offence to them.[
