A new garden bench to replace the one that fell apart when we pulled out the last of the ivy that had been holding the old fence upright. So much debris to dispose of we will be needing to hire a 'man with a van'

The old camera needs stripping down and servicing as I think there's more than just some crap on the sensor. Looks like something has managed to get behind the vewfinder glass, God knows how. It would actually cost more than it's worth to get it serviced and given that it's coming on for 10 years old plus I've a photoshoot to do for a club in a few weeks (erm motorbikes not nuddy ladies but you never know ;)) it's time to move with the times.

All I have left is powders, flakes and a few in the freezer. Some new adds to the stash are welcome at good prices. ;)

I eat with chillie almost every day. Today it was a rampant Chinese Chicken Curry with a mix of Carolina Reaper and Smoked Nagas.

Today I bought a pair of cut-resist gloves as I will be swinging my bilhook to reduce apple and cherry branches and trunks to dust, shavings and chunks to feed my smoker.

Interesting thanks. Cheers for the cherry wood tip - I cut our morello tree right back last year and was going to burn the wood but I'll keep it now. I've been wondering why I couldn't use our BBQ as a sort of smoker but haven't looked into it. Do you think it'd work?

Go for it, remove the bark as it makes a horrible taste IMHO. I use a Bilhook to cut chunks, then an old (electric) plane to make shavings and dust.

I made a few of this guy's smokers as cold/cool smoke is a better flavour for chillies (and cheese, garlic, onions, etc). The longer the pipe to the smoke box, the cooler the smoke.

Smoking on a BBQ is easy, but you need a lidded one. I smoke whole chickens and some hams.

Tile over them... it saves a lot of grief...

Interesting you should say that Taff because I was planning on doing exactly that around the bath but having done some reading on the subject it appears that the recommended maximum weight that a plastered substrate can bear is 20kg per sq m. which equates to roughly the weight of 1 sq m of 8mm ceramic tile plus adhesive. In other areas I wouldn't do it because of the adverse impact on skirting, dado rails/architrave etc. but on the single 1.8m x 1.9m wall to one side of the bath I was considering it as it'd have no such impact and the extra 1cm depth wouldn't be a problem. The 6x8 inch tiles there seem sound and level but I'm now just a bit worried about taking the chance for such a small area - don't want any of the new 16x10 inch tiles falling down on anyone in the bath... :erm:

Anyway I've been busily removing the tiles on one of the walls today and have been putting my Bosch electric scraper to good use getting rid of the old tile adhesive. They're quite well adhered and have taken some shifting in places which is making my decision about the above issue that little bit more complicated. Just to make matters worse as usual, there's loads of conflicting advice on which adhesive to use also... :spin:

It can depend onto what surface you are applying them. Plasterboard may need sealing, waterboard is already waterproofed, new plaster needs sealing, old plaster may need dustproofing (mist coating)...

A waterproof PVA coating (watered down) is a good idea for all surfaces IMHO, as it stops the tile adhesive/mortar from drying too quickly.

I prefer ready mixed tile adhesive as it's too easy to get the mix wrong with powders.

Around the bath and above the sink, it's worth considering quadrant tile edging, stuck with it's own special adhesive which will allow slight movement as the bath dips when filled.

It comes in ceramic or PVC http://www.diy.com/departments/diall..._Trims_S_BSA_D

Osem 24-04-2017 20:48

Re: What have you just bought?

It's plaster skim over a rendered breeze block wall. I've always used readymixed tile & grout before and like that type of product. I've actually used the quadrant before and will do so again as it gives a nice neat finish. We have a heavy duty German steel bath and movement hasn't been an issue in all the years we've had it.

Can't wait to try my tile cutter. Gone are the days of carbide hand saws, nibblers etc. :)

We're also going whale watching (June is humpback whale migration time in SF Bay), visiting Muir Woods/Sausalito across the Bay, avoid Fishermans Wharf, trolley ride, Lombard Street, Golden Gate Park (via Haight-Ashbury), Coit Tower, and whatever else we can fit in during our 4 days there.

Our hotel's just off Union Square, so I am sure we will visit there as well.

Sony PlayStation Wireless Stereo Headset 2.0 from Amazon warehouse, so i got it cheaper as the box is damaged but it also has 20% off the final price so it was a bargain.

A Amazon Echo Dot.

Having fun saying the following. (I've spoilered the result so it doesn't spoil the result)

"Alexa, are you single?"
Spoiler:
No I'm attached, to the wall

"Alexa, Goodnight."
Spoiler:
Goodnight, sweet dreams

plus other funny things.

I prefer the Dot to the Echo, mine's wired to an Anker speaker which is just as good as the Echo's speaker but at a fraction of the cost.

I mainly use mine to voice control my lights (Hue) and to control my TV (Harmony) when I can't find my remote. Other than that not much else other than the odd weather report or to play music. Good fun and excellent value if you get use out of it.

The market butcher says he is close to giving up as most of his potential customers demand "MUTTON HALAL MUTTON!".

And he doesn't allow halal on his van.

So when a friendly old face he remembers turns up he clears his van with loads of good offers. There was sirloin and pork loin at stupid prices too, but we have no freezer space at the moment.

These turned up earlier, the box and contents had no damage on them so over all i made a 37% saving. :D

Wedding out fit the full works even bought a fascinator to complete the out fit. I'm so chuffed that I managed to buy this out fit in the one day as usually end up trailing the shops only to come back empty handed. I'm pleased to say that is now the whole family sorted for the wedding as hubby and youngest will be wearing kilts :)
