lol yes, good result

The penalty annoyed me (because it wasn't one), but good result for arsenal.

I had Arsenal to win 2-1 on talksport predictor...I had liverpool for that score first, but changed it just before kick off :D

Interesting stat though, Liverpool have not actually won any of their last three trophies during actual playing time, all of them on the penalty lottery.:p:

PS, great come back from Oldham Athletic to beat Sheffield utd 3-2 from 2-0 down and with Rochdale holding Sheffield Wed to a draw it was a good day for my 'other ' teams.

Not a great deal anyone can do to counter van Persie at the moment, he's in the form of his life... as for our lot in front of goal, well.

Glad Arteta was ok, we had a good view of it where we were and nobody goes down like that for nowt, it looked very bad indeed.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has said his side's current position of fifth in the Premier League is not good enough and "piles pressure" on him.

The Portuguese said West Bromwich Albion fully deserved their 1-0 win over the Blues at The Hawthorns and were "superior in every minute".

Villas-Boas added: "It's not been good enough for some time. We're fifth and if that is the case, something's wrong.

"Every defeat piles more pressure on any Chelsea manager."
Just a matter of when Abramovich pulls the trigger in my mind.

Yes l agree it was a dive but l am afraid most refs are not clever enough to see though these dives.

This is type of incident where i would bring in video evidence...that would support referees...help them by letting players know...if they cheat...they will get caught and punished

they wont do it. neither will they act after the game unless the refs says he didnt see it.. suppose to be some form of having the refs in control and thats it. pretty pathetic tbh.. the fa should revisit that rule and punish regardless if it warrants further action

Well if Spurs beat MU today (yep as a city fan that's what I'm really hoping (now I await Russ's comment on that :) )) then it'll be a harder job and will put more pressure on both MU and Arsenal..

I do worry though with Arsenal because currently they seem too reliant on RVP the same way City was last year with Tevez.. Fine if he's fit and playing well but just one knock and there could be problems and there's lots of games left for teams to start sliding down a table..

I am not a Chelsea fan, but l am gutted for the guy, its the players that think they rule the world, Lampard for example was dropped to the bench, oh what a cry baby.
John Terry walks around like lord muck.

The manager has been grossly undermined by the players, and that cannot be allowed to happen at a club.

That Russian geezer thinks that he can win everything going, who ever takes over at the club, l think the players should interview them - its makes me sick when players control the club.

As, for the Spurs game today, it will be hard game, and l don't expect us to win, l say a 2 - 2 draw.

I always find watching the game on TV from White Hart Lane a bit poor. The camera position they use is so high in the stands that you lose perspective when the play is near the same side of the pitch as the camera.

I make that Man Utd v London.. 7 wins & 1 draw. 22 points v 1.:D

Re: Football Season 2011/12

As a Spurs fan, United showed us that we still have a long way to go, before we challenge for the title.
Wether its Harry or someone else, we need to proof that we can fight, and also that referee's must be consistent, It showed that we were getting no favours for Atkinson.

We should have had a penalty in the second half when Abi went down, but this is football. Spurs were poor in the second half, and what makes it laughable is that Harry puts on Defoe with ten minutes to go, who stupid.

Harry if you have England on your mind, go now and give someone else a chance, since thing England stiff came out, we have fallen below par.

iadom 04-03-2012 21:27

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Whilst I agree that Spurs possibly 'deserved' something from the game, the fact that Ferdinand quite clearly played the ball and that Adeybayor who I assume you mean by 'Abi', jumped up straight away and tried to get the ball tells me that he knew it wasn't a penalty either.

Perhaps the Gods saw that dreadful dive from Bale last week that I don't think you have passed comment on, and decided to punish Spurs. :p:;):D

Jim.

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Spurs fans need to calm down. They have lost two games, to Arsenal and United no less, and the rumblings of discontent are already coming from White Hart Lane. This is insane considering the position they are in and the season they have had. Title race over? You were never really a realistic contender and so what? Spurs are already overachieving in relation to their resources and still are despite the perfectly acceptable losses to Arsenal (away) and United. It's dangerous to let 6 months of excellent form cloud your judgement and change your expectations from the manager and the team.

Seriously though, it is anyones title at the start of the season, but if it comes down to resources, it will be Citys, but let me say this, most clubs earn their money one way or another, not through some benefactor who will in the end walk away..............watch out City and Chelsea

2 penalties, 2 important matches and 2 misses, what a guy!

Anyone see the Penalty decision in the derby yesterday? Penalty all day but it's one of those that happens for the full 90 minutes when the ball is coming in from a set piece and it happens in every game. So why punish it yesterday and not the other half of the season? If you punish it now you have to punish EVERY player that does that for the remainder of the season. Mike Dean's consistency will be called into question now.

Yes there is no doubt that any manager should be given a reasonable time at any club but the sad fact remains that chairmans these days expect success straight away rather then take the long term view of building a club with strong foundations to provide that path to success.

Put Walcott on one wing, Chamberlain on the other, and run at their full backs all game. Let's see how they like it when the sides of the pitch can be used. When they get tired, chuck on Gervinho.

That said they may well come and camp in their box for 90 mins. Maybe trying to get a goal on the counter. Why not? Why attack, leave themselves open and deal with our pace?

That said they may well come and camp in their box for 90 mins. Maybe trying to get a goal on the counter. Why not? Why attack, leave themselves open and deal with our pace?

I think all 3 will start, we've got a few heads out which may force Wenger to just go for it 4-4-2.. exactly, if they park the bus if you like then putting 1 upfront while our lot toy around passing the ball to death will literally play into their hands. we deffo need 2 upfront to pull their defence around.

It's not impossible, Newcastle did it in a single half against Arsenal :p:

I'd love to see it happen but it could go in opposite directions. If Milan score first that's it done and will lead to an Arsenal shutdown. If Arsenal score then the fans will go haywire and the atmosphere will be set for the comeback. Like many have pointed out though Arsenal could score 5.. It only takes one goal from Milan to overturn that.

Exactly as their defence has been leaky all season.

Really good effort! It was just a little to much to do in the end but Arsenal can feel proud of that today. There was a standing ovation at the full time whistle. Really liking these displays of strength. Came from behind against Sunderland, Spurs and Liverpool and almost did it again today.

Keep this up all season and we may just make this competition again.

Also let's take time to acknowledge Milan. It can't have been easy for them today. I am especially sympathetic to the condition many of their players carry which causes them to fall to the ground in unimaginable pain and suffering whenever a player in a red shirt comes within a couple of yards of them, this is a great disadvantage in this game of ours and it's good to the see the ref pausing play to allow them to compose themselves.

thenry 06-03-2012 23:03

Re: Football Season 2011/12

the ref was really inconsistent. from the go he was trigger happy with yellow cards but come 2nd half kick off he lets a lot go!

Damien 06-03-2012 23:22

Re: Football Season 2011/12

I still think Milan intentionally decided to relay their pitch days before the game against us, doing so on the wings and leaving the center spare.

Re: Football Season 2011/12

You would have more sympathy for UEFA's position if they ever addressed the concerns Arsenal had about the pitch, it was evidently very poor for the game which most of the play avoiding it and their full backs packing the center as there was little pace on the wings. You would have sympathy if they addressed the concerns about Milan falling to ground all the time and the ref buying it almost every time.

I don't mind Milan flopping around every time they get tackled, It gives me a reminder of how bad the Italian league is in which they enjoy fixing matches.

Reports in Germany tonight claim Lukas Podolski has agreed a £10.85m deal to join Arsenal on a four-year deal

Re: Football Season 2011/12

Sounds like a good deal...hope he does well

thenry 07-03-2012 23:21

Re: Football Season 2011/12

it all seems a bit too premature.. the reports reckon hes on 100k. no way would he be given 100k when we need van persie on a new contract without destroying the bank plus sales need to be made although players released this summer will free up a bit of money.. wont be much tho.. we need sales done and dusted. also 100k for podolski is not worthwhile. he is a gamble.

---------- Post added at 23:21 ---------- Previous post was at 21:26 ----------

premature may be not but the wages are a concern.. probably the media second guessing matching his current deal. i think 60k to around 70k max. we seem to be in the driving seat on this one nonetheless..

Was I really the only one last night who thought the APOEL v Lyon game was better than Barcelona v Leverkusen? I mean, I am not a massive fan of either Barca or Messi so much preferred the APOEL game.

Crying shame that either team had to lose on penalties last night. And at least Stevenage can say they scored a goal against Spurs despite losing.
