Yes, I've also just changed the wording as it shouldn't have been posted as loss of On Demand, but reduced content.

Looks like that is almost fixed too :)

I've been getting a lot of the Spinning Red Polo today (and no, it's not a medical ailment). Seems like TiVo is having trouble gathering info. Anyone else?

Yes, I have. i didn't see them at all for the first week but thy've started to appear. They don't normally last long though, apart from the one that locked the system completely and required a power down reboot.

Yeah. I get them occasionally but there's usually a good reason for it. eg my wishlist for "all films" :)

Yes, my system was very slow this morning when I switched on. Then eventually the Red Polo stuck there.... went away and left it a while, came back - still there. So, in the end, I had to switch off power at the back (couldn't reboot using the menus!) and then I did a manual connect to network. Touch wood it has been fine since :)

So I thought I'd make the jump to TiVo and ordered online a week ago. It said I'd get a call back but just got an email confirming date and time.

I phoned up to check prices and if I could keep one of the two boxes what the price would be and if it would be any different if I kept the V+ box or old faithful.

Still waiting... 20 mins on the phone's timer now. Speaking to person 3....

Well that doesn't put my mind at ease! I just reconnected to the thingamajig, and it seems to be better so far. But if that box asks me for my PIN once more I'm going to kick it in the nuts.:mad:

A bit of an overkill if you don't need it to controll multiple devices, but on a Harmony remote control, you can programme the pin number as a sequence, so that just pressing one button enters your pin number.

Apart from the one time the box locked up, even though the red ring appeared, it didn't delay it for too long; not long enough to be concerned about, anyway.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Woah, it's recording a lot of suggestions now! I'm trying to put ratings on the shows that I know about and have already watched, for example I give Everybody Loves Raymond three thumbs up as I really like that, Two and a Half Man two thumbs up as I drift away from it sometimes, and Scrubs one thumbs up as I only rarely watch it as the humour doesn't really get me. Also, given 'The Wright Stuff' three thumbs down and so hopefully I won't get anything related to him either.

TiVo has suggested Vampire Diaries - no thanks! Must thumbs down x3 and delete later.

I've been using the 'Discovery Bar' but only to look at shows I know about, it hasn't suggested anything new that has piqued my interest as of yet.

First time tonight I've seen a message telling me if I can change channel... thought it was going to change my current channel but it was just switching over the tuner that the last channel I was on was being kept on (keeps it on buffer if I want to switch back, clever eh?). Must try explaining that to the others later :D ;)

to my thinking it should do? Someone will be along to correct me in regards to this?

I dont think it will as you cancelled it. If it did record a future version, how would you ever be able to cancel a recording?

If you don't let Tivo change the channel (which it will do if you either let it or don't answer the question when asked!) then it will find the next-available episode. It's only if you explicitly delete the episode - say from "upcoming recordings" yourself that Tivo will assume you really don't want it recording at all.

If you see what I mean? :D

All Tivo-ed up here : installation took about 40 mins including the engineer having to ring CS to get them to switch my account from the V+ to Tivo. His eyes nearly fell out of his head when he saw my old SA V+ - one of the silver jobs with TV Drive on it. All working okay and setting up Harmony 525 to control it was a doddle. Now downloading data like crazy. First impressions re SD picture quality - as good as V+.

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

Had my Tivo installed yesterday afternoon. took about an hour and most of that was trying to find the code for my TV.

Quick question, I know it can take at least 48 hours to download everything. It started doing this and the guide started updating. Come home from work and the guide has only has info up to about 22:00 tonight. I'm sure it had got this far last night. I checked the network status and it says 'Connection in progress, get status', click ok, and everything says finished other than the last item 'Loading info 99%'.

Is that right? I take its its still doing the initial download as there is no 'last attempt, status, success. Just thought you would see it update more, and add more days as it loaded them.

For me it took 3 or 4 forced connections and a reboot before the guide was full (ok, the reboot was to get the channel logos visible).

I don't know the exact reasons, however when I press stop near the end of a recording it does stop playback and will usually ask if I want to keep or delete the recording.

Select Network.
Choose from the available options.
Connect to the Virgin Media TV service now

Hope this helps?

It does take a fair while for the last 1% to load for the first time?

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I've had my TiVo installed today and I've got some questions about how it sets series links.

On my V+ Box, say if I set a series link for a program that is shown at 21:30, then it will only record the program at 21:30 however on the TiVo, it records the program whenever it is on which means I've got a lot of repeats in my planned recordings. I then changed the series link option to record only New episodes which are shown at 21:30 but the planned recordings still show repeats. Is there anyway of preventing the repeats so that TiVo only records the episodes as a series at 21:30?

Another thing about series links, I presumed with TiVo you can set a series link for anything. I tried setting a series link for a program that I know the V+ identifies as a series but TiVo only provides the option to record the program once. TiVo shows upcoming episodes of the show but it doesn't allow a series link to be set, why could this be?

TiVo shows upcoming episodes of the show but it doesn't allow a series link to be set, why could this be?

Hi

Can you let me know what the examples are which you quote.

The first problem could be down to the programme not having the correct EPG data - it will normally avoid recording duplicates of the same episode.

I have not come across any instances where series links are not offered as an option. What is the programme?

Mine was like that for the first week after installation. Now the stop button works as it should. I have no idea why but that is my experience. In fact it took the full seven days before it really settled down.

You MUST allow TiVo a full seven days before it is in a position to provide all functions fully. This has been my experience. It is daft I know but that is what mine took.!:erm:

I think you are right about the EPG data because the description of each episode, whether new or a repeat, is exactly the same so TiVo sees them all as different episodes. Bit of a bummer now that I'm going to have a cluttered recordings page!

For the program that cannot be recorded as a series link, it is called Bhagowali which comes on Zee TV at 14:00. TiVo finds upcoming episodes of it but it doesn't allow me to record the show as a series. This is frustrating as my V+ Box records it as a series but there were some shows that my V+ couldn't identify as a series but TiVo can! Crazy!

Do you mean that TiVo sees them all as the same episodes? I was confused at first that TiVo seemed to be set to record multiple showings of the same episodes of my series links, but I think it just finds all the episodes in case there is a clash or cancellation. I haven't had anything recorded more than once yet, even though TiVo shows as planning to record 3 or more of the same episodes in the same week.

Well I'll find out in the morning to see how many episodes TiVo records. A new episode is on at 21:30 and a repeat of the same episode is on in the early hours of the morning. I am thinking it will record the repeat because nothing appears in the Recording Hiccups section about an episode not recording due to the same episode already being recorded within 28 days (or something along those lines) because this is stated for other series links that I have set.

If you see what I mean? :D

I find this dosent always work. A triple recording and watching live tv, meant i had to cancel a recording of the Mentalist, which i know is repeated, but it didnt pick it up. Perhaps because the repeat is on another channel (5 and 5*)?

I had my Tivo fitted today at long last. I'm very impressed so far. Great to have as much hard drive space as I am ever likely to need and three active tuners and I like being able to view youtube on the tv. I was a bit concerned that youtube would have a lot of missing content but I searched for some things I have watched in the past on my ipod touch and they were all there. As for picture quality, the match on ITV HD this evening looked superb, I think slightly better than the V+. SD pq is to close to call compared to the V+. I would really need to do an A-B comparison with both boxes connected but it's not a problem on my plasma tv.
So far so good, my only negative comment would be that we need more apps.

Yes. Series Links are channel-specific so, in that sort of situation, as you have found, it won't find the other airing.

Im not sure but perhaps it only 'drops' the superfluous planned recording once it has actually recorded one of the episodes.

That may be how it always finds another version of the show if the recording is cancelled by a recording clash ie it keeps moving down the list until it has 'grabbed' a complete showing.

Maybe it's better to setup wishlists instead you can set these to new or repeats also and it's across all channels.

Mine seems to have stopped loading info on day 2. It had loaded program info up to 10pm last night, after that it just said 'to be announced'. This morning still nothing. Been on 99% loading info since yesterday. Pulled the plugged and did a force connect, left it on loading info 3%. See what its like when I get home.

This could be an issue therefore. Tivo needs to have the option to cut the padding off at the end of a recording if it annot find another showing of the episode whose recording has to be cancelled since you want to watch ive TV or anothe channel not being recorded, or search all channels for another showing of the episode.

I wouldn't want to miss a whole programme being recorded just because you put padding on based on the low risk a programme is delayed. Better to cut off the padding since 9 times out of 10 you capture the whole programme anyway as no programme delay.

Try the force connect things twice then restart the box through the reset option menu. Don't just pull the plug or switch off at the back. This has corrected most issues vm said to me.

Yeah, will try that later. Only thing is, because its still on 99% loading, there is no option to force connect. The only way I've found to stop it to is turn the power off completly. Then once its back on I can force connect. Thats what I did this morning. I'll see what its done when I get home at 2.

Well, had ours fitted yesterday...Still getting used to it.
I am gonna give it a while to settle but so far so Good.
On my Panasonic 50" Plasma the PQ is very similar to Samsung V+ I think.
It's not as good as my old SA V+ in SD but nothing ever will be i dont think.

I watched the first Episode of exile on iplayer no problem, but the second episode kept stopping and reverting to the Apps screen ?
And iplayer didn't remember my last played programme so i had to skip through it again..

Teething problems I hope but overall Good, I do understand some peoples disappointment in th PQ in SD, most probably SA V+ users.
But it is better than my humax HD PVR.
I do miss things like bookmarks etc from the Humax freeview PVR.

But with free V+ in another room, it sweetens the deal a little :)

Come home from work and it had finished loading the info this time, but still nothing on the guide. Did another force connect, and it said everything was successful and finished, but still nothing in the guide. Did a full reset and it did 2 connects and updates and now I have 10 days of program info. Shall see what happens from here.:)

Two questions are how much will new customers will have to pay and if someone has already got a tivo does he or she have to pay another 3.00.
