It may just have been where you were standing. According to the article http://www.cgeye.net/2008/11/full-hd...chnology-9000/ ...

There’s one problem: move your head just slightly to one side and the 3-D effect can slip frustratingly out of focus. The viewer must sit in one of six zones - or “sweet spots”; move between zones and the effect blurs. For a fully fledged couch potato, that level of immobility might not be too taxing, but for a fidgety film-watcher like me it was distracting. (Philips says its new Quad Full-HD screen has bigger sweet spots, which should reduce the problem.)

What does a 3-D TV look like? Like a standard flatscreen television. However, it actually sends out not one but multiple views. As long as you’re sitting in one of several “sweet spots” within a 135-degree viewing angle, each eye will pick up a separate view. This effect mimics the angular differences produced by a three-dimensional object and fools the brain.

Hey i like this bit from the article
"Living is consolidating its position at the front of the pay TV pack. With HD also launching later in 2009, Living Player is yet another example of the way VMtv is embracing the brave new world of brilliant brands across every screen."

With what hd launching later in 2009? Is it the other that they have set the players up for eg bravo and virgin 1 or 4hd and the itv content ?

Wow! I'm surprised to see more new analogue services being launched in Europe.

<OT> I am thinking of putting together a setup to receive some of the European satellite services both analogue and digital. Does anyone know whether there are dual analogue/digital STBs and LNBs for this purpose? I have acquired a Nokia DVB-9500S but don't know if it will work with a Sky Mini Dish (52cm x 49cm) and Quad LNB. </OT>

[OT] Having read various pages and cached pages Sky originally were after sponsorship to cover 3 live games on a Sunday plus the red button games but the broken mediaboy link talks about sponsorship to cover 2 live games plus red button games so maybe it will be live games on Sky in the evening and then on 5 for Sunday Night Football (and possibly ESPN for Monday Night Football) Sorry for going off topic [/OT]

That's possible, haven't paid too much attention to the daytime schedules to be honest. The upscaling on this channel gives more improvement than most though, due to pretty much everything broadcast on the SD channel being 4:3 letter boxed...

I was just thinking about this when I was watching Sky Sports News (I know me thinking:D).

If Virgin Media has got the rights to broadcast ITV1 +1 from launch (in England and Wales only) we may see ITV HD (From Freeview launch), ITV2 +1, ITV3 +1 and ITV4 +1 being added soon to Virgin has part of the deal.

Unless Men & Motors is about to closed.

Congratulations to you and yours! The sleepless nights are more than worth it.

The NHS is a brilliant system - a pal of mine gave birth in the states, 10k$ for the privelage, they charge for everything even the little 'cups' (like the ones at McDonalds where you put your sauce) that they put any pills (medication) in! The NHS rocks and without it many would be dead. It aint perfect by any aco***** but lets face it - what is?

Anyway, good luck with the little one!

Hi

I see that ITV are going to launch an ITV1 +1 channel on Virgin Media from October 1st.

Is ITV2 +1, ITV3 +1, ITV4 +1 and ITV HD going to launch on Virgin TV as well?

Or is ITV going to close Men & Motors to make way for ITV1 +1?
And I got this back from ITV today:

Quote:

Dear Media Boy

Thank you for your email.

We are unable to offer any information regarding our ITV Channels on Virgin Media.

May I suggest you contact Virgin Media to see if they are able to assist you further?

ITV+1........didn't think that many people watched ITV anyway to make a +1 wothwhile.

Setanta Sports UK fall out: STV signs deal to show Magners League highlights.

After being threatened with a television blackout this season, Scottish rugby is going to get at least some coverage after STV announced yesterday that it is bringing back a Sunday evening highlights package and will also be broadcasting the Edinburgh-Glasgow derbies at Christmas and new year live.

Setanta Sports UK fall out: Other Sports Rights.

I have found this on the BBC News website:

Quote:

Many industry experts now expect ESPN to make a move for the live FA Cup games, once owned by Setanta, that are still available.

But Ms Frank (ESPN Boss) points out that the rights to Blue Square Premier football, Guinness Premiership rugby union, NBA basketball, and Indian Premier League cricket rights are still up for grabs.

"We are continuing to talk to all sports rights holders.," she says. "Where they are available and they make sense to our business model we will continue to acquire rights."

Rumoured for the 4th but nothing official and Thursday is a more usual day for channel launches on VM (although we got C4 HD on a Friday) but, as there is a place-holder SD channel there already, the usual launch day may not apply.

Well it's the 4th and Living HD is, so far, still showing the place holder SD channel. :(

Any news from the Freesat box about Tuesday's U21 game against Greece?

I must say I enjoyed the Macedonian tv coverage of the England U21 game immensely. They only had the one camera apparently. It was like the old days following England games abroad on telly or alternatively like watching the FA Cup last season on ITV.

I think it would be a shame if the U21 games weren't covered on tv and filled in ESPN's feedback form to suggest they buy up the rights. Unfortunately it doesn't appear to be working as I got a database error. Difficult to know how to report a problem with the feedback page without the feedback page working. So ESPN, on the off chance that you are reading this, please pick up the rights to England U21 games.

PS Thanks for the heads up on the Macedonia game.

As you may know ITV1 +1 will launch on Virgin Media from October 1st.

I think Virgin may also get ITV1 HD (From December 2nd), ITV2 +1, ITV3 +1 and ITV4 +1 Channels as well.

Epg. Channel name
113. ITV1 +1 (England and Wales only) [Maybe Virgin can put BBC ALBA on this channel in Scotland]
114. ITV1 HD (From December when it launch on Freeview)
115. ITV2 (Move from Channel 114)
116. ITV2 +1
117. ITV3 (Move from Channel 116)
118. ITV3 +1
119. ITV4 (Move from Channel 117)
120. ITV4 +1

So where do you think VM will put Virgin1, Virgin1 +1 and any future Virgin1 HD channel? Currently VM want Virgin1 to immediately precede Sky1, 2 & 3 and I would expect that in a reshuffle they might want to group the Living channels together and closer to the Virgin and Sky channels.

I'm not sure what's happening WRT rebranding of Living2 and Living2 +1. Also, can't we do away with Virgin Central on 118 now? Don't we get all of its functionality via the On Demand menus?

I think, if they move the ITVs up so that ITV1 HD immediately follows BBC HD then everything, including Living +2 but excluding a possibly rebranded Living2 and Living2 +1, would fit before Sky 1,2 & 3.

What do you think, eh?

I think Virgin Will moved ITV2 to channel 115.

But I do have an ''ideal channel lineup'' on my blog - http://virgintvmediaboy.blogspot.com...el-lineup.html

BBC Two to air England women's Euro final live on Thursday.

The European Championship final against Germany, at 5pm at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium, will be shown live on BBC2 and the BBC’s website. The broadcaster will also offer a text commentary.

Hey i have just been looking through whats on tv and there are a few things strange with it ?
1: On monday the 14th sept it shows living on 110 but all the other days it says 109?
2: Also on monday the 14th sept there is little adverts for the v+ box for all the other days following but not for the saturday or sunday?

So could this be the day that living hd is going to launch ?

Hmm! Somehow among the list of Blogs and Tweets on page one I missed that one out.

Doh! I just realised that in my calculations I left out Virgin1, +1 and a likely future HD so my plan would not have worked and the Sky channels will have to budge if VM haven't contractually tied them to 121, 122, & 123.

However, I still think it makes sense to move the ITVs up the EPG (down in terms of channel number) to be directly after the BBCs and put Living et al with Virgin1 et al and its direct competitors Sky1, 2 & 3.

What sayest you all?

There are many rumours surrounding Media Boy, many to do with his career, but un-officially its believed he currently holds a position at CI-5.
Many have assumed he took over the position of former agent George Cowley, of course when asked Media Boy, aka Mike TV as he's known in the service, responds with the stock answer of "I couldn't comment one way or the other".;)

Just seen an advert for Sky Sports HD.

How can they claim "Barclays premire league Exclusive in HD"? Surely the fact that ESPN are showing some in HD makes that statement wrong?

I suppose it coupld be argued that the matches THEY are showing are exclusive to THEM. If that is what they are saying then I think the advertising is significantly misleading.

I remember the Harry Enfield series of adverts but I'm strangely having difficulty remembering Sir Richard. Maybe vaguely.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'finally got his hands on Mercury' as the consumer division of Cable & Wireless was sold on by NTL to NPower and is still in operation. The VM telephony service may run on legacy Cable & Wireless exchanges and infrastructure backbone but I don't think that is really the Mercury side of the business that we knew.

See Mercury Communications for a brief history.
