Big implications for other clubs

Only ones that are PLCs, surely? If Mr. Glazer had tried to take over Chelsea by buying shares he would have found himself being roundly laughed at - there aren't any - the blue **** operate on the One Man One Vote Lots Of Roubles principle.

gazzae 12-05-2005 16:55

Re: [Merged] Football talk

I'm talking about implications with the amount of money other clubs recieve.

Glazer will put the club into £300m worth of debt. Whats his main plan to recoup this money? By pulling Man Utd out of the collective bargaining agreement and negotiating their own TV deals.
There was a Deloitte and Touche report, which I can't find links to, that stated that foreign TV deals without Man Utd could be worth up to 40% less than current deals. Sky deals would also be worth less as well.
It could even go the way of Italy where teams have their own TV agreements. There is a massive difference in monetary terms between Milan's TV deal and say Atalanta's.

BBKing 12-05-2005 17:13

Re: [Merged] Football talk

I see. Be interesting watching him stare down Mr. Murdoch - after all, Sky have been inextricably linked to the fortunes of Man Utd for years now. Could all go very smelly.

Remember you're talking about a man who sued his own sister.

Quote:

Glazer's sister comments about the litigation over their motherÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â€šà ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s will: †œThe family were all so close but he just made mincemeat of them all. He made sure they ended up with virtually nothing. He would rather have spent the money on court fees than give them a cent. It was incredibly mean, but also incredibly sad.â₠¬Ã‚

Against a man who changed his nationality for tax reasons, divorced his wife of many years to marry a woman half his age and promoted his sons to positions of power on the back of being, er, his sons. Unprincipled pair, on the whole.

Was it you who wrote into Radio 5 mentioning the TV deal theory? It just got broadcast.

FA charge Ferguson

SIR Alex Ferguson has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association.

The governing body claim the Manchester United manager is in breach of FA rule E3 and he has until May 26 to respond.

The charge relates to Ferguson's comments following the match against Newcastle on April 24.

No, this is not good news and lets hope this doesn't have a knock on effect on other clubs hey ;)

and for your information I am a football fan at heart and would be looking at www.shareholdersarsenal.org or www.shareholdersnewcastle.org to try and stop genuine fans being ripped off. Look through my posts and see where I've slagged other clubs off (apart from the Gooners which is light hearted leg pulling). This is a time when all football fans should be trying to stop businessmen, who have absolutely no interest in the club, players or fans, lining their own pockets, seeing the ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£ÃƒÆ ’â€šÃ‚Â£Ãƒà €šÃ‚£Ãâ₠¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£Ãƒâ€š £ signs and thinking a football club is just about profit.

If he gets control then I shall definately not go to another match at Old Trafford or buy any merchandise, I'll still support my club but with as little cost as possible.

Better than Doughty though, all he seems to do is asset-strip anything decent we have and replace it with cutprice crap.

Interesting but not ideal

"Ferguson will be offered a long-term contract as part of a five-year plan," Harris told BBC Radio Five Live.

"In that plan, he will be given £100m for new players."

This is the not ideal bit...................

"He needs 75% of the club's shares in order for him to use the assets of Manchester United to underpin his debt. The debt is his at the moment but once he has 75%, the debt is the club's.

"I have spoken to the bankers who represent Glazer and they say will get to 75% on Friday. He is pretty much home and dry."

It just seems a bit strange that Glazer is allowed to put the club into debt to the tune of £540 million which is the figure that has been reported.
That is quite some figure to claw back over the next however long.

I am not at all up with the rules of this sort of trading, but it does seem very unethical.

As for Glazers son's saying they are avid Man Utd fan's is a ******* joke.

People are reporting that Glazer is a shrewd businessman. I just hope he know's what he is doing and it is successful, because if it fails, Man Utd could be written off as a bad debt.

Still, I don't suppose Nottingham Forest or Cambridge United have to worry about him.

Actually, football clubs in this country are in a sorry state and it all started with Murdoch imo.

Re: [Merged] Football talk

not a good weekend for me sports wise.. first Glazer buys United then Palace get relegated..

The thing Glazer doesn't understand is that we now have to qualify for the Champions leage and if we loose that game we lose about 20 million and the way we finished the year we might not get third next year either.. the team is in decline and the profits we had in the past might not be as big can't see us winning the league for a few years and are still along way off repeating Euro success so if he's gonna make any money back he will have to do that via ticket prices.. even if fans say they won't go there is a queue a mile long to get in on match days and other people will take their tickets.. in today's transfer market this 100m he is offering each year for transfers isn'tmuch either and will push us further into debt.. how can he offer that when he has already put us into debt over the summer.. and why do this just before the cup final when we want to concentrate on that.. a proper fan would have waited until that was out of the way..

still blame Edwards for putting us on the stock market in the first place.. he tried to sell the club 3 times and now he's finally done it..

As for Palace we threw it away.. drawing with Norwich and Southhampton and loosing to Blackburn in the run in wasn't good enough and then drawing with Charlton was poor as well.. we played the worst football of all the teams that went down

Nugget 16-05-2005 17:45

Re: [Merged] Football talk

I wouldn't say that Palace played the worst of the football - they finished 18th (so, by definition, were the best of the 3 relegated teams), and got a draw yesterday thanks to a late equaliser from Charlton.

Couple that with a 6-0 hammering for Norwich, and I think you're being a bit harsh on Palace.

if you watch the style of football the other three teams play they are far better than palace.. stil abit more luck and we could have stayed up.. i still don't know if the ball went over the line when we lost to Bolton at home and we put the ball over the bar when Arsenal came here from 2 yards out

Interesting story about the John Obi Mikel transfer...

Quote:

Obi 'intimidated' into Chelsea switch
Nigerian youngster John Obi Mikel was reportedly "intimidated and coerced into acting against his wishes" when he turned his back on a contract with Manchester United and declared he wanted to sign for Chelsea.

In a letter seen by The Guardian and sent to the Premier League inquiry, agent Daniel Fletcher says that his client wanted to sign for United - but was scared into doing otherwise.

Fletcher says: "My information is that the player still expresses a firm desire to join Manchester United. It is clear the player is seemingly being intimidated and coerced into acting against his wishes."

Carlos Queiroz has said that Mikel was "almost kidnapped", while the Nigerian Football Association want to talk to ****tu about claims that he channelled money from Chelsea to Mikel's father.

sherer 18-05-2005 15:14

Re: [Merged] Football talk

first he says he was intimidated into signing for United then says he was intimidated into saying he wanted to go to Chelsea..

I think the real story here is the agent.. he doesn't care which club the player goes to just which will pay more so he gets more of a percentage.

UEFA, FIFA and the FA need to crack down on these agents.. why are they even involved when a player extends his contract with a club.. he already works for them and they offer a new contract which goes to the players solicitor to review.. can't see what action the agent has there apart from earning a fee for doing nothing

Yawn.... I though we explained this last time.

You are joint 3rd in, what I think is, the proper Fair Play table. This table is solely on cards, not silly things like how well your fans behave.

Hold on, one of the the things the FA's fair play league is judged on is, "Accepting defeat with dignity", were they not there at Old Trafford?

BBKing 19-05-2005 18:40

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Oh, there's *another* fair play table, is there? Why are European places up for grabs from this one, then, if the other one's the real one? Are the fans not part of the club? Well, they aren't at the Theatre of IOUs any more, of course.

If a club had no one sent off all season, but the fans wrecked every town they went to, would you really want them rewarded with the chance to represent the country abroad?

Losing - well, we get less practice at it - Lehmann's only lost three games in two years.

I hope that Proud Preston make it all the way, then gods own County would have eight teams in the Premiership.
And before anyone says otherwise, if Liverpool is in Lancashire when it comes to the county cricket team, then so are Everton and Liverpool FC.:p:

Er I thought it should have been simple, I guess your finding it confusing so I'll explain it as simply as I can.

You stated Arsenal are not a dirty team because they won the fair play league. I was pointing it it was not always the case due to the fact that you get awarded points for things that have nothing to do with the team on the field e.g community work.

So as I said in my previous posts, a long time ago, in the 03/04 season were ranked something like 8th in the fair play league which is based solely on cards, but you won the FA's fair play league because of the amount of points your unbeaten season got you. Same as in 98/99 season Utd won the fair play league, not because they were the cleanest team on the pitch, but because they got so many points from winning the treble.

So as simply as possible, if you want to find out who is the dirtiest team then you should look at the league based on cards and not on other misselanious data.

For the record I don't think Arsenal are a dirty team.

Hehe, I thought Liverpool was more an irish enclave than really traditional Lancs. They don't speak the same as the Mancs despite the fact they're hardly poles apart, do they?

But couldn't score ;) Both sides failed to perform on the pitch, neither side were able to impose their "superiority" enough to actually put the ball into the back of the net without breeching the rules of the game.
Man Utd may have been superior in your eyes but it's not their name on the trophy or in the record book this year. Maybe 2005-2006 will be different. Until then....
Man Utd lost on penalties (which are always a lottery), Arsenal won, nothing is going to change the result so we might as well get used to it wether some of us like it or not ;) It's time for both managers to look at their teams and to start rebuilding as both sides showed weaknesses today. (RVN seems to need glasses and a stick but that's another matter :erm: )

(Oh and I don't support either team so I'm not biased either way)

Indeed, and you obviously were watching a different game.....

United were all over Arsenal. We created more chances, the number of corners were something like 11 to 1 in favour of United. The only thing which let us down was the shockingly bad finishing of RVN - the blame can be placed squarely on his shoulders.

But as you say, Arse won the cup. But it's not as if they played or even looked like winners.

edit: taken from the BBC's report:

Quote:

Arsenal won a penalty shoot-out to lift the FA Cup after a final that was dominated by Manchester United.

United were in control for almost the entire match

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Anyways, why didn't they close the roof for the match, seen as that it was chucking it down for most of it?

Russ 21-05-2005 19:20

Re: [Merged] Football talk

Apparently closing the roof causes too much of a distraction while they're playing and they thought it was going be dry, according to TalkSport.

Nice edit on my quote but if Man Utd performed to their abilities they would have scored since they were so "dominant". If you read my post I said that both sides failed to perform on the pitch. There is no point dominating open play if you are going to keep putting the ball into the crowd ;)
As someone once said to me
Quote:

Chances mean nothing if you do not take them.
Nice to see that Man Utd fans can lose with dignity :erm: :p:

Oh and as to the roof, it developed technical difficulties this morning when they tried to close it before it rained.

You really need to understand football better! United did not 'fail to perform' - RVN did.

He was the lone striker and the rest of the team did exactly what they're supposed to, if you forgive Carroll's early blunder.

But, if you're determined to disagree with everyone else who saw the match including the BBC's reporters, nothing I say will change your mind.

At least we didn't hide for ages and only reappear when it was certain that they were going to finish above a certain team ;)

Good comparison there

We were **** all season and didn't deserve anything.

You were by far the better side and STILL lost.

That's what's funny.

Yeah, I suppose you're right.

I also suppose it's going to be a LONG time before we get a league game to see who's the better side out of United and Nottm Forrest.

Oh hang on, we don't need to wait for the league game to work that one out....

Who did that then? As I said in my post I don't actually support any team (apart from the national team).
What's happening Wednesday then?

He wasn't talking about you....

Anyway, as mentioned a few pages ago, this thread will close as of monday and the new football thread will take over.

He was referring to the specific Arse fans who only who appear in this thread when their team is doing well, and disappear in to oblivion when United end their unbeaten run, they lose to lower teams etc

And again I ask who you are aiming that at since quoting me while talking about someone else will only cause confusion :p: Must be talking about an Arsenal or Forest fan since I can't recall being in this thread at all before today :erm:
Edit.
Good thing I preview my posts or I wouldn't have seen Russ's post explaining things, still doesn't help when you quote me while talking about another member though , especially when you are trying to explain the first occurence lol ;) :p:

Why do you need to ask again seeing as you've been told twice??

Don't worry though, everyone else knows what he's talking about ;)

The best team lost :(

How does the saying go "Lucky ol' Arsenal"

Megson can put in a bid for Nistelrooy, 50p should suffice.
