I swear when the weather gets half decent in Scotland I get packet loss. Is it telling me to go outside?

You could see it that way, yes. Alternatively I see it as a heat related network issue, possibly borderline/overheating equipment.

The local area lost BB yesterday morning, a tech was booked for today, but the fault cleared around lunchtime. The graph for yesterday (and this morning so far) look terrible.

Everyone is, I think there was a nationwide brief outage too, virginmedia.com was down as well, now my connection to tbb is being bounced all over and the traceroute to it is showing an IP that when I check it owned by "Telecom Italia Sparkle" in Italy...?

I had a wonderful week on Skye a few years back, and it was so hot there was talk of a hosepipe ban !! :)
