but why should anyone get something for nothing?

disregarding the fact that its not really fair that some people are paying full price (and probably a bit more to pay for the people on the offers) and others are paying less than half that.

in another thread there is a discussion about ntl issuing a new upgraded STB and the possible costs for this, another thread where people have expressed views that the network should be upgraded and expanded, all these cost a lot of money.

everyone knows of ntl's previous and present financial problems yet they still expect to get something for nothing, i wouldnt expect a customer to be loyal to a company out of sympathy and it is mainly the managements fault for allowing it to happen

if there is another company that can provide the same service for less money then good luck to them and i would probably move to them too, but it really does annoy me to see some people paying a lot less for more services than others just because they know how retentions departments work in a company.

Has anyone else noticed that TT are no longer advertsing their deal as 'free broadband forever'...

hehe, thats a kicker....

ofcourse you dont send out a confirmation letter stating that
"ok sir, youll have to give 30 days notice but ill take that from today... " and then date it do you Lost?.

infact, NTL flatout refuse to ever confirm in writing any phone agreement, even when asked to do this
by the customer, perhaps thats why they like the phone so much, its really funny when you tell them
you have been recording the conversation and would they like a copy of the transcript.

if NTL:tw did in fact send out these phone agreed terms (the good as well as the bad) in the monthly billing cycle , then i think everyone would be better off including NTL:tw as it would help retain custom and profits.

another rather dubious problem being (C&W)NTL (dont know about TW) never confirm in writing (billing cycle)any Broadband payments receaved.

if you over pay the TV/phone it will show on the bill as payments receaved and dates, but the broadband payments and dates never appear....

You can write to them asking for all information, including bills under the data protection act, its funny how quickly companies respond in my experience ;)

Like I said I agree its a case of ntl and other companies greed for new customers kicking in by offering stupidly low prices.

Definitely in agreement with you there. I certainly don't agree with any silly sales offer to attract new customers either, or if you've had past issues then I agree of course to being compensated, but thats not really what's up for discussion here. Basically, with all these people who have had NTL's so called 'TalkTalk offer' your getting a broadband service that's likely to be faster (not dependant on distance from exchange), is unlimited and doesn't suffer from ridiculously high contention ratios - and, by all accounts from what I've heard there are a fair few hidden charges in the telephone package as well.

They also mention 'We think broadband should be free for everyone' on their website. If thats the case then why, on checking availability using the number for the BT line in the house:

Quote:

Unfortunately we are not currently planning to install our equipment in your local telephone exchange so we can't offer you free broadband at this time.
Which I interpreted as 'stuff you, we aren't interested in you because not enough people live in your area/your too far out in the sticks'. So much for it applying to everyone - if I want their 'free' service I've got to pay a tenner instead for the privilige just because of the area I live in.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

I got my monthly email from NTL and again the price was back to full price meaning the usual chasing up of rententions to reinstate my discount as there is no way it's worth £35 to me.

The bloke told me that they'd moved office and a lot of staff were made redundant from rententions (aka customer relations) in december and found difficulty in finding the notes re the deal I had agreed with them which was £10 for 10meg per month with no time limit.

Now the company has merged they aren't at the moment able to promise anything that'll extend to more than 3 months and insisted I had to ring back in 3 months when they'd reinstate my deal yet again. The bloke was very polite and told me that later in the year they will have some good deals - the standard retentions deal at the moment for 10meg is half price - ie. £17.99 a month.

If in 3 months they mess me around then I'll consider moving to the (almost) free sky broadband product.

Re: NTL offering package to challenge talk talk

I was looking to switch to the Sky 3 for £26 offer (actually 3 for £37 once you add the BT line rental) as £37 is much cheaper than the £51 NTL were charging me for more or less the same package.

I wasn't looking to play Retentions Roulette (honestly - I was all set to quit) but NTL have chopped my price down to £31 per month for a year. Sorry if this upsets some people, but I guess NTL figure it's better I pay them £372 a year rather than that money going to their competitors.

Anyone who got a discount from NTL needs to watch their bills even more closely than normal right now becasue of the recent price rises. You can pretty much guarantee that your discount will stay the same whlist the price goes up thus you won't be getting the deal you were promised

thats correct the price increase will effect everyone including people that are recieving a discount. but on the upside you can cancel within 30days of a price change so can go elsewhere

I'd say its more likely that any discounts applied will disappear and retentions will have "no record on your account of the offer we made last month..."

yeah, that's pretty much what I experienced when I phoned them. I have sky free broadband available now at my address so if NTL dont keep to the deal then I can get my BT line reconnected and get 'free' broadband from SKY. I'd prefer to stick with NTL though as cable broadband is superior.

:dozey:

Yes you're quite correct. What I was pointing out was that there may well be a double overcharge. E.g. one of my discounts has failed to appear again, but also i've got a slight overcharge on talk Unlimited 24 due t the refund on the bill not matching the price rise.

Anyway, I called to complain again as they failed to refund my overcharge from my last bill plus didn't fix any of the overcharges on this month's bill either.

They treid a new tactic of saying that now they are called Virgin all offers are no longer valid :Yikes: Fortunately the supervisor confirmed this was nonsense and they basically agreed the current system was not working. The good news is there will be new retentions offers at the end of February which should actually work and won't require you to phone up and have a big argument every couple of months.
