Wow Poggy, English grammar is there for a purpose you know. Like Ouchiko I also stopped reading after the first few words.

Try inserting these , .

Ntl are now advertising 3 for £30 with 512kbit included, this 512kbit is apperently 1 gig cap and not the unmetered version.

If you fancy being picky, make that "What happened to punctuation and paragraphs?!?". ;)

Remember - however picky you are, there's always someone pickier out there. :D

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

My m8 who didnt get a letter to say he had grabbed too much last month, and was sacked to the lowest tier, has voted with his feet and had Bulldog fitted this morning.
Like he says, 1 month contract at a time, no d\load limit, and up to 8meg.
And its cheaper.
To be honest with you i'm thinking of doing the same. Even on "up to" 10 meg, 75gig is pretty puny, and i'm fed up asking the family whos d\loading what all the time.
Reading about the 10mbit, its a total shambles the amount of information the customer services has been given, they should have kept quiet about it until it was all ready to roll, in fact i can see poor reliability on the horizon, which i would say was NTL's strongest point.
I blame that man in the pub.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

My stats for the period from 1st November:

Month 2005/11:
Download 33768.1 MB
Upload 936.692 MB
Total 34704.8 MB

Taken from my router so everything going in and out from three computers is measured.

Frankly I am not going to fall into the trap of constantly checking what i am doing, it's like clockwatching all over again when we were on pay per minute dial up 5 years ago.

Imagine if cable tv worked the same way?

"sorry sir but we have tranmitted 75gb of programmes down to your stb already and you are over your limit for the month! Yes sir I am aware that its only November the 2nd and you have only viewed for 5 hours. We are downgrading you to our unlimited analogue service, please plug your arial connection into your TV set. That's £37.99 please!"

I've found my projected usage since the 10mbit upgrades has gone up a bit, probably will end up ~200gb, maybe just a tad higher but thats purely due to there being some nice releases this month :)

I'm definately in the dl what I need and what I will use crowd, couple of DVDs, couple of shows, couple of HD films, couple of albums and a couple of games.

Really not much, but with games nowadays weighing in at DVD level and even crappy US caps of MPEG2 HD films at 15gb / film it all adds up.

Since May this year, highest usage 135gb, lowest 60gb, current month 125gb :x

Ignoring the punctuation presumably you've seen the bandwidth stats on your local area so you know that it was short of bandwidth?

A lot of ISPs aren't very good at answering their emails, it's called a telephone, it's a free call...

You knew what the deal was, you knew there was a limit, you chose to break it. However fair or unfair the limits are you chose to break them, you were warned that if you didn't calm down you would be restricted and again chose to ignore that.

Diddums to be honest. That extra few DVDs/Game and app ISOs/AVIs etc etc I hope were worth it.

EDIT: Some people get defensive when its' suggested they are downloading dubious material, so just incase you're one of those:

why all of a sudden if i run my p2p how come i cant even surf the web

sure i been capped down to the 512 and now unlimited and its crap my p2p client now is virtually useless it struggles to get to 10kbs download speeds
is more to do with your usage ;)

The reason by the way that your P2P client is so pants is because you're uploading too fast and you can't download properly due to this. Use newsgroups or similar, P2P sucks in so many ways especially if you have the tiny upstream you do now.

Alternatively go ADSL ;)

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

If you running p2p get netlimiter and throttle the upstream, as ignition said its whats killing your performance. If your upstream is maxed downstream drops to around the same level.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

At the moment I am considering moving to NTL but need some clarification regarding the cap before I make my final decision.

Currently I'm on 1meg ADSL and download/upload roughly 90-100gig a month. This amount isn't due to illegal films/software etc, it's mainly due to my being a recording producer and transferring tracks/samples between friends, which some can be as huge as 1gig.

If NTL offer a 3, 5 or 10meg unlimited service then I would snap it up. So please NTL come clean and tell us all excactly what tariffs you'll be offering.

Re: *ALL* ntl Cap Discussion (Part 3)

I honestly can't understand anyone wanting to be just joining NTL when they are starting to drop speeds for those exceeding their caps! It amazes me that anyone would even consider it at the present time.

Stay with the ADSL you are with if you are (clearly) exceeding the 30g per month cap they offer for 2/3meg connections. And as the 10meg cap is only going to be 75g per month - be very wary about that as well.

It's a low cap for anyone who transfers big files, or has multiple connections to the one account, and NTL are being short-sighted in the extreme in setting such low caps.

Why join something with such a low cap - I cancelled my account when I got my first warning letter telling me I would be monitored in September. I went back to BT within a week, and onto my new (unlimited download!) ISP at the beginning of last month (October). NTL have now sent me a letter saying they are dropping my account back to 512kbs unlimted for the future.

What can you say about a company who can't even tell you have left them already!! And who phoned me at least 15 times to find out WHY I was leaving.

There is one fact that we know of for sure £37.99 = 75GB a month of up/down transfers. I can only hope that there will be a tier higher than this - probably 100GB a month for under £50.

At the moment of course, the £37.99 tier would be fine as they're not monitoring usage - and you should get 10Mbps down/512kbps up straight away, assuming your area is ready. :)
