Nope. They go for a Freeview slot & everything else is optional. There are more local services on VM than there are carried by Sky, & carriage on Freesat is non-existant as the services must be encrypted due to rights issues with the non-local content that is output most of the day.

We are due to have local TV switched on via Freeview here in Hemel/St.Albans on Wednesday. Looks like it will be an extension to London Live. Will be interesting to see if they also appear on 159 here (Hemel headend), as they do on every headend inside the M25.

Does anyone actually bother with Local TV ?

Talk about a complete waste of money. Another brainwave from Jeremy Hunt.

I did like STV2 but STV axe it just 10 months after an relaunch to add Aberdeen, Ayr and Dundee to the network.

Local TV was on channel 6 on my Telly until BBC Scotland launch (It now on Channel 46 - due to it being so bad).

I agree that local TV is a waste of time.

Thanks for the info everyone, maybe I was getting mixed up with VM having to provide them with the most prominent slot (which was 159), I didn't realise that they had to pay commercial rates to VM.

As these channels now largely exist to get money out of the BBC and aren't bothered about ratings (clearly shown with the schedule that MB kindly provided), it wouldn't surprise me if they were taken off VM and Sky as the contracts expire.

The sad thing is, they could have been made to work but the people running these stations didn't have a clue.

A wasted opportunity. But if this is the best they can do, I think it would be better if we just cut our losses and closed them down.

Surely, this is what streaming is about? Getting minority content and seeing how many will subscribe to it?

Apparently, TVPlayer are the latest company to withdraw all UKTV channels from its service.

The Bristol channel, at one time, was quite good at having some decent local-stuff in the 6pm slot even if it was blatantly rock-bottom budget. A couple of ex-BBC local presenters were on there too.

But recently, nah....

Well, you do need content to start with to set up a streaming service!

Even London Live has very little on it apart from black and white films.
