Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

Make sure the installation engineer checks power levels before leaving, a too strong/weak level will affect Tivo features and Tivo is sensitive to needing to be in the correct range. My Tivo needed an attenuator on installation to reduce the signal power input level and has been fine since. But if something like this is required and not checked you will have trouble with features like on demand.

Is TiVo not supposed to go above 52?

Thanks Henke - anyone got any other advice re questions i should be asking ??

Just get use to it. If you have a V+ it works in different ways.If you have not had, one then I am sure you will get on with very well. The main complaints are the "lack" of certain V+features. Which some people love & some people feel are a outdated. Each to their own :p: I have always found the installers to be more than helpful - perhaps I`ve been lucky or its just the shotgun I carry when they are here !!!!

Problems using it, look on this forum bet the answer is here!

When Tivo is first installed, it takes a couple of days to download all the stuff. During that timer it may act slowly and not everything is available.

You may have to adjust your TV picture. Even then, mine took a week or so during which the quality of picture improved. Cannot explain why.

Is the TiVo power levels different it's not 55 the max but 52?

5.1 sound

Had to reset tivo to get 5.1sound back as tivo was only giving me stereo. Had to do this 5 times now in the month or so. Anyone else had the same?

You mean the DOCSIS upstream power? 52 is the recommended maximum for TiVo, but like all STBs they will actually work up to 61.

But the DOCSIS downstream and TV power levels also need to be correct. That is what attenuators are used for. Attenuators don't reduce the upstream power (in fact they make it a bit worse).

Is there a way to delete some of the apps? Think it may prove a nuisance to scroll through so many useless ones in the future.

No but they do 'group' them so the ones you like might (hopefully) be in a different group :)

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3

Thanks for all the advice and tips !!! One more quick question, I have a VERY basic/cheap 5.1 surround system that i want to hook the Tivo box up to. The back of the subwoofer where all the connections go in only has red and white RCA inputs, however i would imagine the Tivo box has a DIGITAL output Is there any way I can connect the Tivo box to my surround sound system ??
EG Is there such a thing as a DIGITAL-RCA convertor I can buy ??
