Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
Managed to knock 2 minutes off my 5K times I was getting in December.
Still a bit to go before I'm getting PBs again but definately heading in the right direction. |

No it wasn't although in 10+ kilos of body armour restricting my breathing, a belt laden down with kit and with boots on I'd need a car to get me doing 5K in under an hour! |

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
Resurrecting an old thread, as I myself have been trying to make positive changes in my life, depression and social anxiety, plus no job = mega weight gain.
I'm embarrassed to admit I weighed myself back at the end of Feburary and I was a massive 346lbs (Or 24.71 stone)...yikes :( So I started the atkins diet, after a few months the body adapted to it, so I had to come off, but have gone back on it again last week So far, I've lost 67lbs, or some 4.78 stones (nearly 5 stone) in 6-7 months, which isn't "too" bad, given how the diet kept stalling. Am currently at 279.2lbs or 20 stone. I need to introduce more exercise to get rid of the rest. |

You're right to introduce more exercise but don't over do it. There's a danger you'll demotivate yourself if you do too much. Keep posting to update us. You might motivate others;) |
Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
I can't stress the benefits of exercise enough. At the end of April I was 15 stone, heart rate was 82bpm and could run for only 6 or 7 minutes before almost keeling over and dying.
This week I'll be running 16 miles in total, I'm down to 13.7 stone and my heart rate is around 63bpm. Different things work for different people obviously but hitting the road was the best thing I ever did :) |
Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
Exercise wise, I started doing a tabata (high intensity) workout on my recumbant exercise bike.
Tabata/HIIT looks a bit like this - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piGyvhq2eTk I usually do 5 minutes warmup at level 4 (Bike has levels 1 - 8) Then do the tabata stuff, which is 10 seconds at level 4, 20 seconds at level 7 It's really, really knackering hehe, but you feel the burn and it does seem to help. Also trying to add in other exercises, so I started doing the Sculpt workout from the power90 video, although I must admit, these exercises aren't really designed for festively plump people like myself, heh, so I'm still working my way up to getting through the entire video, but I seem to get a bit further each time I do it, so I'm getting there. |
Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
Been doing the HIT with my neighbour @ 3 x 20 seconds.
It's really effective :tu: |
Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
Just came in off a 4.5 mile run, first time in my life I've ever run that far, no stops. I could have done more and would have had my stomach not been playing up so I'm aiming to kill 5 miles tomorrow and now have my eye on the Swansea Bay 10k at the end of September.
6 months ago this would have been unheard of. I have more motivation now and and seriously considering doing it for Macmillan Cancer Support. And my own fitness of course :D Anyone thinking of getting out on the road but are hesitating for whatever reason - please give it a try. My regret was I waited until I was 38, I wish I'd done this 20 years ago. |
Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
I went running for a while turning the earlier summer months but found it too difficult to 1) pace myself 2) keep my self-interested. I tend to run as fast as I can, then walk, and then leg it again.

Yeah the Nike+ app is cool. I tended to listen to music to help motivate myself...

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
That's what I do now as I've managed to get past the 'lack of focus' stage the the NHS app is excellent, the narrator is very supportive and gives you loads of encouragement. It's interval training too which sounds like it would suit you and gradually increases the more you do.

Re: Who Is Getting Fit This Year?
Running sucks imo. I went for a 35 mile bike ride today though. Far more entertaining :)
