Hmm, my mate phone NTL up, and he said that they said it's happening in June (this month). He said they also said that it's happening THIS week, Sunday at the latest. I'm not sure if this is true though, I might just ring NTL up my self and find out.

If it is true, then YES!!! :p: :D

Best not to get my hopes up though

Actually, A friend of mine (from northampton) rang T/S (needed a modem replacement, which he got), asked about the speed upgrade and got told a date Of June 8th for his area to be upgraded, now im not holding my breath, but if it does turn out to be correct, my area (luton) is right next to it and could follow swiftly after. (well I can hope :D )

maybe that rumour isnt too far fetched ...... well, this IS ntl .....

hmm... strange that as t/s have been given no date for the speed upgrades to take place. your friend might have his wires crossed; upgrade work may be going on on his ubr, but AFAIK this is not connected to the speed upgrades.

**goes off to put big boots on to stamp on all these rumours**

on the other hand, if come june the 8th i am proved wrong then i am :nworthy:

I'll hold judgement until june the 8th, but theres a strong possibility that you are correct, hell, you work for ntl and know whats going on, hehehe.

I dont mind either way, but, the upgrades have got to start sometime, and it would be handy if NTL set a TARGET date for them to be completed by(save disasters like the MD's tea being made incorrectly), least then we know the latest possible date for the upgrades to take place, come on ntl, customer releations isnt always your strongest point, but still, please just tell us when? :P

the end of this week romour I find hard to believe because it took telewest more then a week from start to end and ntl are worse then telewest. I also agree ntl should release a date it might show there is some organisation in ntl which I find no evidence of at the moment.

I am sure that ntl do have targets for doing it, BUT won't tell customers... because if they do not meet the target how much ranting and raving will there be?! just wait and see and then it will be a nice surprise when it happens :)

Why does being responsible and not releasing a date mean you have organisation? You must at least have the organisation to say 'we can't 100% commit to a date at the moment but everyone will work towards late summer, and we'll set the exact date (range of dates in fact) later'.

BBking because it is a target and shows customers you are commited to doing it, just saying late summer gives them time to be slow about it and delay it.

monkeybreath I disagree, there are many companies out there that show targets to the public and when they fail to meet them quite rightly the top person responsible loses their job, simply keeping the targets hidden away doesnt do anyone any good, it kind of ruins the points of even having targets.

I would say that NTL have given you their target of late summer and that they will try to make this as early as possible in order to improve their reputation. Why would they want to delay it and what benefit would they gain by delaying it? Don't forget that NTL is a lot bigger than TW and has more differing systems than them and that increase in BB speeds is not the only thing that they are concentrating on at the moment. You have to look at the impact that increasing BB speeds has on all departments within NTL and what other implementations those departments are undergoing at the same time.

Re: [Merged] NTL Increasing BB Speeds

hmm, Im clutcdhing at straws here, but after being given a date of june the 8th (see above, not me personally but a friend from northampton, who is also listed here) for my area to be upgraded, and then this gets posted on the ntl service page :

Quote:

Some ntl internet customers in the Stockton, Guildford, Luton, Dunstable, Cheshunt, Hemel Hempstead, Stevenage, Bolton, Northampton, Nottingham, Coventry and Stoke areas will lose service while network and software upgrade work is undertaken.
Luton = my area, network and software upgrades? could this be the holy grail? am I being totally hopelessly optimistic? or will I wake up to 1.5 meg? i can only hope
