True Grit 8/10 - Some excellent performances and beautifully shot as you'd expect from the Cohen Bros.

Re: Rate the last movie you saw

I would go to 9.5/10 for True Grit.

Jeff Bridges and the Cohen Bros can do no wrong in my eyes but in this case the star of the show, for me, was Hailee Steinfelt playing the young Mattie Ross.

True Grit 8/10 love all the Coen Brothers film, and thought this film was more more Oscar worthy than Black Swan, for reasons in above posts.

Gullivers Travels - Excellent and super funny - Jack Black is a legend :) 8/10 (I'm a hard man to please so nothing ever gets 10/10)

Due Date - Very Good, Robert Downey Jr plays a part similar to his own personality (a-la Iron Man) but it just missed out something but can't place my finger on what exactly 6-7/10

Rango

Most people laughed at the burp

The rest of the time we watched in silence

People leaving the cinema seemed to talk about anything but the film

Technically lovely at times, but generic and often mundane

The Human Centipede 8/10

My wife and I just watched it, and really enjoyed it. Starts off like a cheesy horror movie full of cliches, then we thought it was really interesting, exciting, and funny in places.

Missus said it reminded her of Cronenburg, and I thought it did have some Fly/Naked Lunch elements to it.

My local picture house had a double bill today, The Wrestler, followed by The Fighter. Since I hadn't seen either, I'm a member, and members get in free for double bills it seemed silly not to!

The Wrestler 8/10
The Fighter 9/10

really enjoyed both, interesting that the way The Wrestler was shot, that looked more like a documentary than The Fighter which was based on true events.

I think The Wrestler may be an amalgamation of the sad stories of several wrestlers rather than just one?

Blues Brothers 8/10
it was on ITV mid week, hadn't seen it since I was a kid, 1st 1/2 is good, sets up the story, then 2nd half is brilliant insane comic road movie fun :)

Blues Brothers 2000 5/10
again on ITV midweek, hadn't seen it. I spent 1st half thinking it's not so bad as ppl make out, sets up the story nicely, but then 2nd half, rather than subtle nods to 1st film, it just regurgitates same jokes, but the story goes from silly fun to ludicrous nonsense, and I think as great as John landis is, he got bored so put stupid effects in for sake of it :(

Transporter 7/10
was on Tv a while ago, hadn't got round to watching it, but since 2 was on last night, and 3 is on next week, thought we should watch to see if worth watching other 2.
We enjoyed it, it is what is is, silly nonsense dumb action fun, very much like Police Story style Jackie Chan films :)

Currently watching "A Time To Kill" on Blu Ray. 8/10. In my opinion, it is the best of the John Grisham adaptations. Good cast, good story. Well directed and looks surprisingly good considering the fact that a lot of 90s films were shot on video. Not to mention the fact it has both Ashley Judd and Sandra Bullock in it.

The last film I saw at the Cinema? "The Eagle". Surprisingly epic historical fiction from Channel 4. Seems to be part historical epic and part road movie, but works well all the same.

7/10.

The last movie I saw in cinema was Limitless which I thought had a clever premise but rapidly became a rather daft action-thriller 5/10

Prior to that I saw The Eagle which had some good fight scenes and the Highlands looked stunning on the big screen but the rest of the movie was rather dull and predictable 6/10

Also saw True Grit last month which was a good solid Western movie but not quite up the standards of the Coen Brothers best movies 7/10

I didn't bother with 3. I loved one, but was bored by two.

My last movie: Sucker Punch. This was better than I was expecting, but you won't enjoy it if you are expecting a sensible story line. Thankfully, I realised this a few minutes after the film started, so was able to put my mind in neutral and enjoy the action, which was impressive, if a little video game like in places. It's actually a lot like The Matrix in that way.

So, if you are expecting a good story well told, you'll probably be disappointed. If you are expecting good special effects, a good soundtrack, and some pretty girls kicking some serious ass in impressive sequences, try it, you may like it. The only downside is that camerawork can sometimes make it a little confusing to follow the action. It even looks a little like "Tekken" or "Virtua Fighter" in places.

One track that stands out is the one played over the intro to the movie. Emily Browning (who plays the lead, "Baby Doll", in the film) did an absolutely brilliantly haunting cover of "Sweet Dreams (are made of this)".

6/10.

SCRE4M is definitely off my viewing list though. I just fail to see how re-doing the same thing over and over again sells, Its typical and having not viewed I still bet everything I have that I already know how it will end.

Well if this follows what has happened in some of the most recent Avenger movies from The Incredible Hulk onwards there will be some kind of presence by S.H.I.E.L.D tying them all together

In fact iirc a S.H.I.E.L.D found Thors hammer at the end of iron man 2 didnt they? ( well I assumed it was Thors Hammer)

Monsters. 3/10.........yes a great example of budget movie making.... But it's boring.

Skyline. 3/10........starts off well enough but they don't know where to take it....Less said about the end the better.

The millennium trilogy. 7/10...... Ever diminishing returns.... The dragon tattoo is obviously the strongest film ( but I worked it out, well guessed, the truth almost immediately). The other two are decent enough. Hard to follow though as all the names sound the same and all the men look alike.

I thought I'd give it a watch because Kidulthood and Adulthood were both great and Influential films, Young girls parading around in their underwear with minimal acting skills kinda killed it for me :(

I think Noel Clarke has produced some great true to life movies and hope he continues doing so.

I really enjoyed the story in 4.3.2.1 and loved seeing it from the perspective of each of the main characters. Its also mostly the same actors as the other films too.

I went to see Thor in the Cinema with a friend on Wednesday.

Great film, a bit far fetched in parts but thats what happens when u put Comic Book Charactors onto film.

Id give it 8 out of 10. Also the guy that plays Thor is hot :-D

John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13 - 8/10

I love this film, although it is a little dated. The soundtrack is just awesome.

Little Fockers - 1/10 - What can I say? It was dire.

The Green Hornet - 1/10 - I turned this off after a while, as Seth Rogen was annoying me so much...

The King's Speech - 10/10 - I really enjoyed this, which surprised me.

Hanna - 10/10 - It's different, with a good soundtrack

The Pianist - 6/10 very annoying that there is no dialogue, I found myself trying to lip read.

13 Assassins

Japanese Samurai action/drama by Takashi Miike.

A little slow to start with, but the fight scenes are brilliant, and the final battle is bloody epic.

7/10

Ah, a classic, from the golden days when Carpenter actually made good films :)

Training Day. I watched this for the first time on the weekend and was blown away. Awesome film.

For me it's a 10 out of 10. Denzel deserved his Oscar!
