And the original premise was that Gerrard was the best player in the 'Premiership', in fact he saved his best moments for the FA Cup ( v West Ham ) and Champions League in Istanbul.

Apart from a few brief flourishes like last season ( and he blew that ) he can't have done that well in the league or Liverpool would have done better than they have. He is a great player but is a long way from the best ever Premiership player, IMHO of course. ;)

How do you judge assists Jim, final pass before a goal or the defence splitting pass that sets up the opportunity for that pass? He also played with some of the worst strikers the league has ever seen baros diouf Dundee mellor just of the top of my head, I'm sure denphone will be able to add to the list of abysmal strikers

Well on that point I would wager that Scholes, Fabregas and one or two more would rank higher on the defence splitting pass table.

For what it is worth Shearer would get my vote as the best outfield player in the history of the Premiership.

If United do finish 4th (i.e Arsenal don't lose the next two games) will they be in the unseeded part of the draw? Their UEFA coefficient would have taken quite a battering from their absence last year and poor performance the year before. The play-off is difficult even for the seeded teams.

Problem I found with Gerrard is that he attempted those defence splitting passes a lot more than Fabregas or Scholes would and had a lot of failed attempts. He always struck me as the 'hollywood' type of player going for the ambitious and dramatic when playing with more caution and patience would have been better. The end result is that he conceded the ball far more than should be expected of 'the best midfielder in the league'

They probably would but then they lack the ability to tackle, head and drive the game the way Gerrard did. He is the most complete player and therefore imo best player we've seen, he scored goals nearly as well as lampard, passed nearly as well as Scholes, tackled nearly as well as Keane and ran about nearly as much as Robson. Shearer was the best strikers imo but it's all subjective and everyone has their own opinions on it.

I don't think Liverpool have much of a choice regarding picks on players so Theos fitness isn't something they can afford to differ over.

Depends which angle you're looking at it from. The problem is when agents and players go all out and ruin themselves in the process leaving themselves showing greed and greed alone.

This was during his prime! In recent years his stamina and energy has clearly declined and he hasn't gone forward as much as kept this position a lot more than he used too. I think also in recent years what has put down to natural decline is actually the result of losing Alonso alongside him, a very underrated player before he went to Madrid.

That's what I am wondering. People talking of Arsenal as well as City and I can't see the logic. What on earth do we need another attacking midfielder for? I don't think Sterling is so good that he merits blowing transfer money on a position in which we're already strong. Might as well keep Walcott. You should only buy players in positions for which you're already well stocked if they are a big improvement in quality, like we did for Sanchez, not for what is arguably a minor upgrade on Walcott......

I find it very hard to judge players outside of Arsenal unless they're obviously very, very good. I don't watch enough football so only end up seeing the likes of Sterling a couple or so times a season. He hasn't made a big impression on me in that limited viewing.

Arsenal caved in last time out when Theos contract was up for renewal what will it be this time? A major upgrade would be Reus. Having said that Theo departing would be a loss of pace even if you consider Gnabry as a replacement, Sterling would throw pace back in.

FFP will be milked at administration level. It's the 'in' thing for them at the governing bodies by that I mean money being poured in vs management of said monies. To do the sensible thing and rewrite FFP instead of making slight adjustments each year is pointless for them. What ever will they do instead. It all looks to be a bit like EU law contradicting or getting in the way of a member of the EU.

All you need to do now is to put in your regular order for prawn sandwiches for each time you go to OT.;)

Well yes, the Glaziers have to justify their inflated costs somehow...(when I was in their Red Cafe last I was charged almost £4 for a 500ml bottle of coke)

iadom 24-05-2015 09:19

Re: Football Season 2014/15

No inflation, season ticket price frozen. :) As for prawn sandwiches I just wish they would go back to good old local pies from Hollands instead of the inferior ones from Wales we have had this season.

Yes, am hoping Newcastle are relegated today. Sadly, I forecast it being Hull being relegated today.

He played that card earlier in the year and some think there's some substance to it this time and Newcastle will spend huge in the summer. No one really knows for certain though. early indication suggested Newcastle would have up to £70 million spare cash floating around come the window.

This came on a day Keegan tore into him http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32863581

Nice to see Preston finally winning a play off at the 10th attempt, finished 10 points clear of Swindon so fair enough.

Yes lets hope the FA act on what is totally unacceptable in my view.

Yes it is nice to see Preston do well as the late great Sir Tom Finney would be proud of them today.

Ahhh, Just seen the Fellaini challenge, that's horrific and that's an absolute horror challenge, dragged his studs and tore open his leg. If that isn't enough he follows through into his head with the knee. If you could get 2 red cards for one foul, this was one of them. Crazy stuff.

What an utterly soulless, library - like place the Etihad is.

If it hadn't been for our excellent fans singing you could have heard a pin drop.

I can't believe they are extending the place when about 5000 of their fans failed to turn up.

So anyway, If we want Europa League we need you Arsenal types to win the FA cup......

I hear a lot of defence for Rodgers but I'm against him, He's what Moyes was at United, a mouse in charge of the cat. Houlier and Benitez to Hodgson and Rodgers... European Giants to trying your best not to qualify for the Europa League.

Because the format is horsecack. Wasting your thursday nights against some bargain bin team in Norway. It was so much more superior as a knockout competition. It was more prestigious and exciting in every single way. The group stage has destroyed desire to actually compete in it. It's honestly not worth winning for that champions league spot.
