RE: Premier Sports on Virgin Media and Premier Sports HD

Hi

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. We have been waiting to receive information from the NHL on certain matters.
There will be up to 8-10 games per week available mainly live but with some delayed until the next day due to other events.
We have been told that the Hockey Night games will be in the mix of games in due course but as far as we know at this stage we can’t take the studio during the Hockey Night games just the matches.
We are of course planning to go HD in due course but this is unlikely to happen in next 6 months. What you will find is the picture for Hockey is better than normal SD as we bring in the signal in HD and convert. NASCAR fans were concerned at first but are generally pleased with the quality of coverage.

Once again sorry for the delay in coming back to you. Things have been moving very quickly this week and we wanted to wait until we had clearer info to pass on.
All the best,
They never mentioned Virgin Media in the email for some reason

What are the NHL doing ? They've lost a massive amount of followers in the UK with this deal , talk about a backward step and no games in HD for the forseeable future.

I'm sure they're probably more interested in who is giving them the most cash than the number of viewers, sadly for UK NHL fans.

Isn't that the way of all sports at the moment, or else they would all still be on free to air channels like ITV, BBC.

Just a reminder that there is both Premier Sports and Premier Sports Xtra on Sky's EPG - two different channels with the same single sub.

NHL is split over the two channels - the Tuesday night live game in on Xtra.

1. The people who operate the Twitter account would not be told of this information until days before launch, eg. when its confirmed and ready to roll out.

2. If they did know of something prior they would not be legally allowed to say.

3. Its a multi-million pound company, why would you expect them to give away business dealings to you, especially on a public forum?

Its just a generic time frame. Ask any channel if they plan on getting a HD version and they'll hope to have one next year.

Looks like the article I posted from the Indepenent was correct then , as that stated it was arriving on VM also.

http://www.pbs.co.uk/

Interesting that it says Sports as well , I know they show sport in the US however I wouldn't have thought they'd have had the rights to show here.

This is what angers subs to VM, Talks and talks, VM are quick enough to put crappy +1 channels on, but the customer is after certain channels such as Premier Sports and Atlantic.

And what do VM do, we are still in talks, and yet, l guarantee it will be on Sky long before Niell Berkett and co will be out of the cars in the morning.

VM must not keep treating there customers with contempt, the channels are there for the taking, but it appears to me that they want them cheaper than anyone else.

I know that l am constantly going on about this scenario, but what has to be realised is that its the customer that keeps a company in business, if all the customers disappeared to other broadcastors, then VM would be saying, what do we have to do.

But Arthur, what I don't understand is, if you are so unhappy with VM, and you already have both Sky and VM TV, why don't you just transfer all your TV to Sky.

Or do you just like moaning? ;)

Oh and the old saying "A finger of fudge is just enough to give you kids a treat" total rubbish. I've told my Mum to stop giving me them but she thinks I'm just joking.

"A finger of fudge is just enough to give your 32 year old son stress" is more like it.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. III.

Hugh, No, what l am on about is that VM are always in talks for certain channels, they know that customers are screaming out for certain channels, but VM don't appear to care.

It seems to me that they just enjoy customers whinging on and to see what the favourites are before deciding what to get.

Customers are asking for certain channels to come onto the system, but all they say is ' we are in talks' how long does it take.

Yes l have both Sky and VM, but l look on the fact that you have a choice to choose, and to what you pay for, Yes VM is cheap and l would change over completely tomorrow to VM if they had the channels, but they don't, and they always keep there customers in the dark.

Sky is more expensive, and has more channels.

Well from that list I can say there is only 3 channels I'd ever watch and that would be Bio HD, History HD and ITV4 HD. The only SKY exclusive HD channel I'd really want is SKY Sports News. I don't watch SKY Sports 3, SKY Sports 4 or SKY News enough to be jumping up and down for them. SKY Atlantic HD would be good for the Mrs.

I think Virgin have a good HD offering and I'm sure we'll see more coming soon, especially when Virgin are negotiating new carriage deals.

I would just like to see a few new channels, not +1 or HD I mean brand new channels.

I should have explained that a bit better

i'm ruling out News channels and kids programs - children wouldn't give a monkeys about HD or otherwise.

that leaves

MGM - plenty of film channels available.
Universal

Nat Geo

Let's be honest here, unless you've got kids there's no real need for 5 of those channels:

Cartoon Network HD
Disney Channel HD
Disney Cinemagic HD
Disney XD HD
Nickelodeon HD

Even if you do have kids, are your children really connoisseurs when it comes to picture quality? I'm pretty sure they'd be just as happy watching the normal version of the channel. In fact if I had a child who complained their cartoon wasn't in HD I'd probably slap myself for allowing them to become a spoilt brat :D

Chad, Cinemagic show many different Disney movies not just pre school movies , I'm pretty sure Pirates of the Carribean and many others have been on and Disney Channel HD also aim many shows at early teens , the same ones you see these days with Blackberrys and iPhones.;)

It's a basic channel the same as Sky Arts 1 and 2 HD and Sky1 HD
http://www.sky.com/shop/tv/entertain...entertainment/

But it is not a basic channel on Virgin, the only way sky have let virgin have it is if you subscribe to the Sky sports package, it was taken off freeview and therefore is no longer classed as a basic channel. When the deal was done with sky they with held Sky sports news HD as well as sports 3 and 4 hd. And of course its in the XL package.

You know what I think anything is possible with SKY and Virgin these days. Someone posted a link to an interview with Cindy Rose who referred to SKY and other competitors as "frenemies".

There are suggestions on other forums that SKY might be considering allowing their customers to use other ISP's to deliver SKY Anytime, especially with Anytime arriving on Virgin Media. Do you think Virgin could get access to SKY Atlantic HD, SKY Sports 3 & 4 HD, SKY Sports News HD and SKY News HD if they offer SKY a preferential deal to offer broadband to their customers? The deal would be similar as to how SKY channels are delivered to Virgin customers. Virgin customers are not SKY customers, it's Virgin themselves who are the customer of SKY. So SKY customers taking Virgin broadband via SKY, would still be getting the service from SKY but SKY would be the customer of Virgin. Does this make sense?

In all seriousness though Chad , this will never happen as each company needs a unique selling point , VM's is their broadband speeds and TIVO and Skys is their vast range of linear channels (both SD and HD).

The main issue here is that if you want fast broadband, decent VOD and a decent choice of channels it is not possible!

Virgin offer great broadband and VOD but sub-standard TV Channel choice

Sky offers Great TV Channel choice, OK VOD (for broadband customers only), but slow broadband!

Sub-standard TV channel choice, I can't agree with that. Other than SKY Atlantic, a few CBS channels, a few music channels, a few news channels I'd say Virgin carry 99% of the most popular and wost watched channels in the UK. I'd say they more than make up for some of the missing channels with their On Demand content.

Virgin certainly have a better TV offering than Freeview, Freesat, BT Vision and Top Up TV.

I actually joined SKY last week but then cancelled at the last minute. When I took everything into consideration, nobody can beat Virgin for all round quality. Excellent broadband, excellent VOD and a very good TV service.

I agree that Virgin have a better tv offering than Freeview, Freesat, BT Vision and Top Up TV.

But Virgin's Tv lineup still needs fixing, like how can you get Russia Today and Al Jazeera English on Freeview, Freesat, BT Vision and Top Up TV but not Virgin Media?

I think it due to when Virgin sign the deal with Chello Media they only has Zone Reality (Now CBS Reality), Zone Horror (now Horror Channel) and Extreme Sports broadcasting at the time.
