Getting TiVo on Saturday to replace the V+
The BBC red button interactive on TiVo had better be operational for the F1 season at the end of the month or I'll be asking for the silver SA V+ (TV Drive) back. :nono:

I registered on the 1st of December yet nothing, as far as l am concerned its shambolic having to wait this long still no phone call from them, l think they have forgotten that we are there.

Someone is desperate to know on DS, no one seems to know.

I would hazard a guess BBC Red Button will not appear until SSP Red Button does.

I was quite amazed it isn't available.

As far as I'm aware the Red Button stuff is written by the BBC themselves, same as the iPlayer content is directly controlled by the BBC.

Red button stuff will take a little longer to arrive on TiVo, for the simple reason that TiVo in the USA has never had any red button interactive features so it all needs to be created and coded from scratch!

It is amazing how many minor problems there are. I would have thought the BBC red button would be amust to program in. If I am not on the next prizewinners list, I will wait till all minor irritants are sorted.

Its not a problem at all. As I mentioned in my last post all interactive features will arrive but the software needs to be created by TiVo for us.

I suppose being so close to the official launch, and paying customers already getting the box, the software and niggles must due to be implemented/fixed pretty soon. The development of Tivo has been going on for over a year now. If the box wasn't anywhere near full completion then it wouldn't be getting dished out to paying customers. I am happy to wait for enhancements and fixes to arrive. As far as I'm concerned it is a step up from the V+ for my own personal needs.

If customers get TiVo DF could it be quite a while before they get Red button on say sky sports/BBC or do virgin aim in conjunction with TiVo to get it up and running quite quickly.

Sorry, another FAQ maybe (I did search)

How do I change the default recording padding ? I can obviously see the padding options in the series link settings, but it would be nice to just add a default 5 mins to all recordings.

TiVo didn't have it, so it's something VM are going to add at some stage.

If it's going to be added later then fair enough, although it might be sensible to just change the current default stop time to 2mins. I don't think that's going to cause any complaints.

I would imagine there will be more complaints from people who set the series link and then don't go in to change the padding options and end up missing the end of all their shows !

I just thought I'd add this for those that have never seen the 2001 TiVo Series 1. Well there is it on the left, next to the PS3 and VM TiVo above...

https://www.cableforum.co.uk/images/...2011/03/71.jpg

The black window on the front had the recording + standby/downloading LEDs and an IR blaster for changing the STB channel when it was due to record. It had an ethernet connection (well you could add one via a PCI card as it was basically a PC running Linux which meant you could login to the command line and add various hacks and scripts for new functionality. If only VM TiVo ran Linux :p

Most of the case was empty though, it was just a motherboard, HDD and PSU! It was huge, but for it's day is was amazing! Haha. I'm sure Nige said a few years ago they had one in the office, did you never see it? :)

Edit: Saying it was few years, it was actually 2004 when I met Nige doing trials!

Surely the way to eradicate this problem would be a dynamic EPG which I understand has already been fed back to VM.

Damn near impossible I'd say - instead of booting off the hard drive like US Tivos do it boots of flash memory so there's no scope for modifying it (it loads a kernel + a squashfs root and only touches the hard drive for /var and the MFS partition, and possibly /db).

I suspect but haven't proved it that if you put an empty hard drive in there it'll partition and initialise it itself, which is a bonus for upgrades (HD is 30% full already after 2 weeks, so I'm already eyeing up a 2Tb upgrade).

Re: TiVo

Just got off the phone to the CEO office and made my feeling clear about lack of solid info re roll-out and what the current timetable etc is.

Made it clear that what Virgin need to do more than anything is to post a statement laying out what is happening and what will happen ie when this phase is complete and what will happen re next phase if successful or not.

Upshot is that its going to be passed on, hopefully with the TiVo team being asked to make a statement.

I said that the easiest way was to post it on the Virgin Community Forum as it would be reposted everywhere else quickly. I thought it the most likely place they would post.......

This will hopefully happen and give us some definitive information that we can rely on and not conflicting stories and rumor clouding the issue.

I would imagine there will be more complaints from people who set the series link and then don't go in to change the padding options and end up missing the end of all their shows !

When you set a series link it asks if you want padding, every time :)

No it doesn't.

1. Do a search
2. Select the show you want
3. get this show
4. get a series link
5. series link scheduled notification (press ok)

At this point it's created the series link with defaults of no padding and record new and reruns.

You can at this point go in and edit the series link, but it does not actually prompt you about padding.

It does.........

1. select programme

2. "series link and other options"

3. "get series link"

3. at the bottom you have "start recording" and "end recording" options, on time, add mins etc..

;)

Thank you virgin!

I havent heard anything yet. On The VIP50 and registered first day for TIVO. Im pretty disappointed not to here and I also did not get that flyer to enter the draw.

Exactly the same here. To be honest the whole thing has been a fiasco, with #tivo team contradicting CEO office and vis versa.

Completely agree. We should never doubt the capacity of VM communications and marketing to take a good thing and make a nonsense of it.

God I hate to do this................:erm:...............but

I GOT THE CALL.......:omg:

Retentions offered it free for a year at no cost :woot:

I calmly asked which hand I should bite off :D

Friday 18th and I get it :hyper:

Looks like my email moans may have helped as as I state above it came through retentions :hugs:

I officially love Virgin again :romance:

Re: TiVo

It's not Retentions doing it, it will be the TiVo team. Retentions have no involvement in TiVo

Except they clearly stated that they were from retentions.

Re: TiVo

Only thing I can think of is that some of team they are using for the TiVo call outs have been taken from Retentions, so the person calling was too used to saying where they are from and slippe up (when I used to be a frontline agent, I've thanked people for calling when answering calls at home!)

Re: TiVo

so is everyone who is currently being called a draw winner from the second draw ?? are they all VIP or just XL TV ...

seems extremely strange that VIP peeps were not even invited to enter the raffle and what about the 'draw' for VIP only peeps that was rumored ???

never had any raffle invite here and yet to have any contact other than 'your stuffed at the back of the March' queue ... not that i am willing to pay for tivo as i am not but would be interested to know why certain groups have been left to last and why there has been no new VIP announcement yet which was promised for early first quarter which has now long passed

doesnt matter what words you use whether its shambolic or messy cock-up the fact remain the customer has been left in the dark and still hasnt had adequate information

Still no call here :(

Did the people getting calls enter any of the draws?

Re: TiVo

I got nothing through the post but was told by a member of staff in an email they would ensure I am in the draw.

However no mention of it was made during the call.......

Oh and I'm on triple XL at the moment.

No wonder it's taking them so long to get round to calling me if they're spending 3 hours on each phone call!

Still waiting myself but not rushing personally as would ideally want that 3rd tuner activitated before Tivo does arrive for me. I know it is on its way and should be in March, but that means it should be just about on test right now to be available later in March?

The under 3 hours will be for the install :dunce: not the length of the call.

It's currently being tested by a control group.

Considering we have a small minority of TiVo registered customers on this forum there seems to be a lot of free box activity today. Congrats to all those that have had the call.

I know I ticked the 'evenings is the best time to call' option on the raffle so here's hoping I get a nice surprise later :)
