Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Well I am mighty relieved that the new speeds have arrived. I was on the 10 meg connection and never got above 3.5 meg speed apart from the first few days when 10meg was introduced.
Several calls to NTL only ever ended with them trying to blame my equipment - sigh. At least now with paying for 4 meg I am getting closer to the speeds they are managing to deliver to me. But suddenly £25 per month sounds a heck of a lot compared to the ADSL offers out there at the minute. Shame I had to switch down speeds rather than NTL manage to give me anything like what they offer though :( |
Re: New Speeds - June 1st
I have a bit of a newbie question to ask. Don't know if someone has already asked before but how do i check my config file?

Re: New Speeds - June 1st

So true NTL have said it will happen before the end of june - meaning it can be anywhere between now and the beginning of july.. |
Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Seems I jumped the gun as well :( despite them saying they had changed me down to the 4 meg service, it is actually 2 meg I am getting at the moment. Ugh, wish they would have warned me it hadn't changed in my area yet, as I would have stuck out 10 meg a little longer. ah well.

On ntl's site, they are advertising 4mb (up to...) but if ntl can't provide 4mb to new customers. Aren't they going to land themselves in hot water legally? For existing customers it doesn't matter, as we're getting a "free" upgrade from the 2mb service. But if you're a new customer and sign a contract for a 4mb service today and ntl can't actually provide 4mb or "up to" it, then that's a diffrent matter, isn't it? |
Re: New Speeds - June 1st
i havnt read the whole post, so sorry if this has been asked/answered, but does anyone have any inside info about when NTL will rollout the upgrades to the different areas?
tar :) |
Re: New Speeds - June 1st
...short and long answer: no.

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
Im sorry but im finding all of this rather amusing.'RARARARAAAA wheres my upgrade!?' lol some of you sound like proper loonies!
'upto 4mb' means just that! Your connection will run anywere 'upto' 4mb, and obviously anywhere in between. The way some of you are ranting on I wouldnt suprise me if NTL turned around and told y'all to sod off and stay on 2mb! .. not that it would happen, but still. Most of us have had our fair share of problems with NTL at some point or another (to those who havent, ok fair do's, your lucky!) but that doesnt mean we have to turn around now and kick up a right old stink just because the upgrades haven't happened bang on the stroke of midnight June 1st. Patience young Jedi's! |

I remember noticing a speed difference when going from 1mb to 3mb but there was hardly any difference, other than a less-reliable service, when going from 3mb to 10mb. |

Re: New Speeds - June 1st
haha - lifes a b1tch aint it! Its simply how these companies do thier business. Ask some of the 10mb customers about thier 'upto 10mb' service.
You bet your life that once a 50mb connection (or similar) is around it will most probably be an 'upto 50mb' service - but since its not available then im sorry, thats a daft thing to come back with. |
