I was in a rush once when I first got the update and almost didn't notice it was 3 options to pick from rather than 2.

I can't say I noticed the choices but I will have a look when I get home.

Thanks for your post :)

I found a new option in the recording options. Allows for recording and/or streaming. The streaming part was giving me grief and confusion, so I have set it universally to "record" only.

Another change I do not like is when you have several episodes of a series recorded. It used to tell you how many episodes you had, now it just says "1 series".

Where are you looking?

When you click on the folder containing those episodes, the list opens with "1 series" above.

Ah got you. It looks like it's connected to the links to On Demand content, as it'll tell you how many series are available across all sources if you choose the 'My Episodes' view.

As I said, the number of specific recorded episodes in the folder are shown next to the folder name in the main 'My Shows' list.

Looks like Virgin Media might have finally figured out that there is a problem. Hope there is an urgent fix for some of you all soon. Must be a PR nightmare for them. Just hope the "further news to share" doesn't involve paying £100's for the new box. You would think they would point out the implications of deleting thumbs though, I'm sure not everyone has turned suggestions off. (many people have reported it makes no difference though)

From the "Community Forum":

We are aware that after a recent update, some customers may experience slowness when using their TiVo® service.

While we work on resolving this, for the time being there are some temporary measures that you can take to improve the situation.

You can reset your thumb ratings for shows by going to Home > Help & Settings > Clear or Reset TiVo > Clear Thumb Ratings and Suggestions.

It’s worth repeating these steps from time-to-time.

We’ll update you as and when we have further news to share.

I wonder if they got the "delete thumbs" and "restart ui" messed up? Different mods seem to have different preferences. Deleting thumbs is hardly something that needs repeating "from time to time" even with the occasional new recording set, if they plan to fix it "sometimes soon" :D Oh well, one poor moderator seems to be bumping all the "slow" threads, giving his apologies.

I watched the last of my recordings and so did a full reset. Put in my favourite channels, set a few series links (after removing the "streaming" option), and then set a couple of films to record last night.

Guess what? I went to watch them earlier today and I still get long periods of black screens, whirling circles and static circles!!

Sounds like CS staff simply don't know what to say to customers and are making things up on the hoof.

When I asked a senior manager as to why they do this when they don't know what to say, I was told "they panic"!!!

Not good enough. The truth should always be told, no matter how unpalatable.

I worder if, during the testing phase, any performance concerns were raised. If VM have acknowledgedone there is a problem then it must have been observed before now.

It wasn't seen during the beta testing phase (otherwise RC23 wouldn't have been rolled out).

I'd be very surprised if that was indeed the case.

It was widely reported when it was released in the initial trial areas. As with the bug that prevented recordings in standby. I even raised concerns that series links+ could impact on performance, long before that! Obviously they fixed the standby fault but performance complaints as with Dolby digital last year was ignored and the trial was extended to everyone. Hopefully they have their own professional internal testing teams for V6 rather than relying on enthusiastic "fan-boy" customers.

Many of the customer testers are IT professionals with years of experience. A lot of effort is put in to test the software by customer testers.

I have had the updated software now for a while. The performance of the box is definitely negatively affected. It's so slow when moving between menu items. And my box is only 5 months old with little saved on it and few recommendations/thumbs...... it is really frustrating.

Yeah it's terrible!

The time it takes to load and watch something I've recorded is ridiculous now. And then to come out of the recordings screen takes ages and your left hanging with a black screen.

The on demand stuff takes slightly less time than is used to....just!!!

But overall it's slower than it ever was even with getting rid of thumbs suggestions and re-booting...

TIVO is no longer fit for purpose.
