We found that late last week Total Channel did go up by one. Thanks for any help.

The TiVo EPG listing isn't prefixed by the word 'Freeview', so I presume it's a Sky only thing.

Insighthd has been on SKY for a few weeks and it is not fta or ftv.

I asked some satellite enthusiasts about this and they said that Insight HD was FTA on Sky, but is now FTV for some reason, but it's still free.

The UHD test channel (now on Sky EPG number 998 for 4K receivers only) is showing FTA extended promos of UHD programming from various channels, including Insight, Fashion 4K etc.

The total channels figure in VM diagnostics is the number of services listed in the NIT table of the local network used by the VM device. A complete stab in the dark here but possibly that is an indication that 4SevenHD has now been added to all network NIT tables, the streams were already present.

Unfortunately, as I've been incredibly busy over the last few days I've not been sent any scans so can't confirm that. There should be a month end scan available early in December which should be able to confirm this.

Maybe that down to "channel moved" being added to I.D. Channels old numbers.

Checking diagnostics, they are Service IDs 4403 & 4404 - which were already in the NIT, so it won't be those.

True, could someone on the M/Player pack please check to see if channel 203 is available to them?

There are now red button links (on TiVo at least) giving info on the channels due to move. What a good idea.

If you know where the channels are and you're watching them, you don't need the red button link to tell you where they are and besides, there is no red button link on ch 203 (old home of more4hd).... Totally useless.

If it is going to be a pay channel, I imagine that it will go into your package and above.

Be interesting to know if M/Player customers get it, as it is available on Freeview.

The Moviemix licence to broadcast is said to have been removed from the Ofcom list.

I do hope that after finally getting it that it's not going to close!

I've been told that 4SevenHD wasn't added to the NIT until it appeared on the EPG, so that accounts for last nights increase of one in the Total Channels figure.

The previous increase was, indeed, related to the "channel moved" placeholder channels. Dormant SID 4464 "Channel Moved" was removed from the NIT, dormant SIDs 4403 "Channel Moved 3" and 4404 "Channel Moved 4" were added to the NIT, so a net increase of one. Last night, SIDs 4403 and 4404 became active and were both renamed as "Channel Moved". Sometimes, changes to the "Total Channels" figure are relatively meaningless.

Apparently, this is possibly due to a name change of the licence holder - there are now two different licences under 'SonyMovieChannel'.

I wonder if this ties in with what was said about Sony Movies coming to VM??

I wouldn't pay too much attention to it, Ofcom have been known to be slow at publishing changes in the past.

We found today that 16 channels has been axe from Total Channels sometime since Monday Night after 3am (Tuesday AM).

We can only think of the BBC Red Button Channels.

The new edition of Virgin Media Presents and the Channel Guide confirms that CBS Drama returns to Virgin Media's top tier TV package in December!

http://www.virginmediapresents.com/#tips/channelguide

It's laughable really, the likes of Sky 1, Sky Living, FOX, Universal, Syfy, Comedy Central, MTV, Alibi and W are all considered basic lower tier channels (M+ and above) whilst the crappy CBS Drama with no new or original programming, but full of Judge Judy repeats, gets treated like some premium channel that only the highest paying customers get.

Stunned that they've not moved it down to M+ with all of the other CBS channels on a permanent basis.

Hmmm, yes that does seem to be the most likely cause of such a large drop in services. There were only 15 dormant BBC Olympics * channels as BBC Red Button 1 is still active, so that leaves 1 other service removed.

Other candidates:

S4C HD - there are 2 services associated with this (SID 2355 S4C HD Slate and SID 2356 S4C HD) and we are only looking for 1. VM may be holding onto these for future one-off events.

Africa Channel (SID 658) - the channel has gone but VM may be holding onto this to avoid customer problems with playing back any recordings.

Hidden 22 (SID 2211), Hidden 23 (SID 2311) and Hidden 103 (SID 10320) - it is safe to exclude Hidden 103, it isn't in the regional NITs, so wouldn't be in the Total Channel count anyway. Hidden 22 is probably still needed as TS ID 22 isn't carrying any services at present. Hidden 23 is probably redundant as TS ID 23 is now carrying permanent services Sky Sports Mix HD, Universal Channel HD & Sky Hits HD.

I can't think of anything else at the moment.

AMAZON VIDEO was never added to regional NITs, you can't remove something that isn't added. Your sources are probably referring to the SDT, which has absolutely nothing to do with the Total Channels figure in diagnostics, I was already aware that Hidden 23 hadn't been removed from the SDT. Perhaps your source should spend less time scanning for cable channels on their TV and some time learning how DVB-C actually works. ;)

The Total Channels figure in diagnostics is the number of services on your local cable network (NIT). The channels list obtained by scanning cable on a TV is obtained from the SDT. They are like chalk and cheese, try not to confuse them.

(1) You asked about the Total Channels and gave your own suggestion as to why it had changed.

(2) I confirmed what you had said regarding BBC Olympics channels and had the NIT listing analysed by indexing the NIT entries, extracting the TSID, SID, Service Name fields. Sorting the SID field into numerical order and comparing to a similar extract from the previous scan. There are 68 networks in the scan and the BBC Olympics channels and the Hidden 23 placeholder had been removed from all 68 networks.

(3) Having confirmed what had actually happened for you, it is somewhat impolite for you to reply that the information is wrong and you have better information. Sorry but your information was wrong, feel free to report what your sources tell you but I'm quite sure that your sources didn't analyse the 61356 rows of data in the NIT to get that incorrect information.

(4) Feel free to draw your own conclusions if you prefer fantasy and speculation to the facts.

(5) So, the Total Channels count has changed again, better get your source to fill you in on why. ;)

To be fair, if you rely on the SDT, you will always be dealing with inaccurate information. Many services being listed which are only available in other regions and some services which have actually been removed from the NIT but are left behind in the SDT.

about the new V6 box

Virgin TV V6 TiVo box price and release date

The Virgin TV V6 box will be available to existing customers "before the end of the year" and new customers from January 2017.

There are no extra monthly fees, but customers will need to have the Virgin TV Mix bundle or higher to qualify for the box.

There is a £99.95 one-off upfront cost for the Virgin TV V6 box. As part of a promotion though, new and existing customers on a top-tier Full House or VIP bundle can get the box for £49.95 during the launch window.

Does the comment below mean If both are connected by wifi then you can record 12 shows are once, without having to say what box and does it show 2tb on either box

" Virgin Media has cleverly designed the new boxes to connect to each other and increase the storage. For example, if you have two Virgin TV V6 boxes, your storage capacity increases to 2TB (1TB per box) and you can record up to 12 shows at once. You can then play them back on either box without knowing, nor caring where the programme is stored"

You need both boxes connected via coax and then via Wi-Fi to your superhub.

This will then let you record 12 shows at once, but also watch any recording across both boxes.

Not actually rude at all. MB asked a question, got an accurate, well researched answer. He then dismissed the answer as incorrect, preferring to misinterpret the information he had received from someone who had scanned cable frequencies into a tv set. As I stated, he was asking a question about the NIT and then made up an incorrect solution based, not on the NIT but on the SDT.

The problem with this, and the reason for the tone of my reply was that the person who had spent time scanning and analysing the data saw MB's dismissal of their findings. Hardly encouraging for someone who has no interest in this forum, suffice to say they won't be helping out in future. Unfortunate, as the whole reason I asked for their help in the first instance was to help counter the inaccurate "TV scan" based information provided by MB with accurate information based on analysis of the NIT.

I've now been told the identity of the extra service added to the "Total Channels" count, again, it wasn't what MB suggested. Unfortunately, I've now been asked not to post the details on this forum.

Nobody, that was the point. We developed a database with a front end to load VM's convoluted and heavily fragmented NIT.

Its is £50 plus a installation and activation fee for a V6 box if you have either the Big House package or one of the other big packages Vince and £100 plus the other charges if you don't have those packages l think.

Again, if and when this service is added to the regional networks, I won't be given clearance to post that information here. Unfortunate but it is what it is.. so, back to inaccurate speculation. :D

Our Sources told us not to post all the "Raw" information month ago - that why we do not post any photos for.

We did not "dismissed the answer" we really did think Hidden 53 may have reappear after being removed - like BBC 3 did on Virgin Channel 106 - sorry but we put 2 and 2 together and came up with 5.:D

But it didn't and why on earth would it reappear? You failed to understand the purpose of "Hidden 23" which was a placeholder on transport stream 23 whenever the transport stream fell dormant. It used to be a pop-up transport stream, only appearing when extra capacity was needed to carry services such as the BBC Olympics channels. Now that it carries normal on-going tv services, the transport stream won't have dormant periods and no longer needs to carry a "hidden" service.

And "Hidden 53"? really? there isn't a transport stream 53 to hide, there's 48; 1-45, 101, 102 & 104 plus any tests in the 300 range that may be operating in some regions.

I think maybe you put 2 and 2 together and come up with 5 a little too often. :p:

My personally opinion of VM this year has been very poor. No *new channels* price increases etc. And l am sure there will be more in 2017.

I can never understand how the owners or directors, can sleep at night. With the way customers have been treated this year.

Wasn't this the channel that was broadcasting off the EPG on satellite? IIRC it was low resolution and intended for mobile phones.

Is it on Sky and what stuff does it show?

So finally a replacement for the Spotify app that was pulled off VM a while ago, as MTV Trax is a subscription music streaming service, albeit with a much smaller range of music than Spotify.

Would it be too much trouble for them to add the MTV Classic channel at the same time?

Very strange, as Kix Power doesn't currently exist as a TV channel, it's just a temporary brand that Sony used before, and ee don't currently receive the nornal TV channel, Kix.

We still to see confirmed information on how long this channel will be on for.

As the Channel says "Available for a limited time".

Also Sky Cinema will relaunch Sky Cinema Star Wars from December 12th using Sky Cinema Sci-Fi and Horror EPG Channel number until after the Holidays.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2016) Vol 2

Fashion 1 was taken off Freesat two weeks ago and has now been taken off the Sky EPG and is showing a slate saying "this service is currently unavailable".

I think this is either on VM Ireland or the ex Smallworld area.

It looks to be closing so would at least help towards channel parity!

Fashion One is not on Virgin Ireland but Fashion TV is.

Here is the list of channels that Virgin Media UK axe in old Smallworld areas and also channels only on Virgin Media Ireland right now.

Thanks, I was getting confused between the two of them.

Not surprised it's closed, I doubt there's enough market for one, never mind two!

Last I heard was that Fashion TV was losing money, but is subsidised because it's primary purpose is to showcase new fashions for the industry.

Wow my first post on this thread this year, it really was a slim year for new channels on VM! I genuinely started to believe that VM have got to the point where they have nearly all the quality channels they feel they need except the following,

SKY Atlantic
Small number of HD variant channels
More Ultra HD content

Please let me know if I am missing something,

Best
Mark

Indeed, we are also missing stuff like AMC and ITV Encore but both their content and ratings are terrible.

Yes, I should have mentioned AMC, as that is a worthwhile channel, irrespective of the ratings. I honestly believe that not enough publicity is given to this channel, and many Sky viewers who can get it simply forget that it's there.

ITV Encore is still mainly showing repeats of ITV dramas, but it is a superior channel to CBS Drama, which is a bit of a disappointment.

Your sanity? :p:
No i think you summed it all up apart from itv encore and AMC, i think 2017 will be more about on demand content and apps rather than channels.
Insight hd will launch (rumour) on vm in first quarter of 2017 this will be VMs first linear Ultra hd channel.
Also a big congrats to Den on him posting the most posts on this thread this year :)

We at theone2k10 headquarters have heard rumours but for now that's all they are, will post more info as i get it subject to any dnp orders etc.

I think MB deserves a big shout out for his work on these threads and having the patience to keep track of how many posts people make on this thread.

Any hint of Front Runner TV coming to VM? Seem to be on all the other platforms. They just announced a regular British ice hockey highlights show and I quite fancy that.

Great work MediaBoy and well done denphone for being top of the posts.

For those who say no channels launched this year but we still got price rises, I think the new channels listed by you including Universal HD, Spike, TruTV, Movie Mix, Movies 4 Men, Sky Sports Mix, 4SevenHD, Hayu and Vevo show it's not been a terrible year. The fact is aside from AMC and Sky Atlantic, we've got the best channels so there's very few more to add.

Of the missing FTA/FTV channels, Viceland looks to be on its way. Still no YourTV though.

Aren't there still one or two movie channels missing??

Not heard anything about this coming to VM.

It's a bit of an oddity this channel. It's available on Freesat, Freeview and Sky but doesn't always show the same thing on satellite and Freeview!
