Enjoy Derek, got anything planned? Apparently we are meant to be having a heatwave this weekend, but typically, as yet no sign.

Sadly Mrs Derek is working all weekend so a run this morning, catching up on Sky+ recordings and generally chilling out is on the cards.

Well done mate, My forklift license was in-house and had to be retested every year ( that was for 6 years ). You seem to forget what you are taught as you go on ( Just to make life easier when you are busy? )

P.S Is it reach or counterbalance  Or both.

Thank You Devil, that is the trouble with 'inhouse' license's, mine will be an 'acredited' one and can be used anywhere, Forgeting what We are taught is 'part of life', and yes it does make life easier lol,

This one is for Counterbalance

Well I'm sure you'll do fine :) - I had reach, counter balance and VNA licences at one point :).

Of course it's still on the Job Centre pc (even though it was 8plus years ago now) and they STILL insist I can still drive them ;)

edit - I wrote a brand new VNA truck off once ;)

Hemochromatosis

http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddise...mochromatosis/

When I have to go in for a transfusion I sometimes have some one in the next chair who is having blood drawn to help reduce the excess iron in their Red Blood cells as part of their treatment.

Good on you for being a donor LR, without people such as yourself I certainly wouldn't be alive to-day. So Thank You from all of us who rely on people such as yourself. :tu:

You are most certainly welcome. It isn't really a great inconvenience for me. I work only 10 minutes walk from the Centre so every 3 weeks have an extended lunch time and have an hour and a half me time. :D

The only slight inconvenience is you're not allowed tablets for the week before and I could have done with a couple of paracetamols on Sunday morning. ;) Self inflicted though.

I applaud anyone who is a blood donor, fingers crossed I never need to require a transfusion.

I had a reprieve this morning from the dentist, had a phone call to say he was poorly. Decided to do the retail bit anyway just to cheer myself up lol!

So true Tinkey. I had to have lots of blood transfusions when I was younger and am so thankful as well to the people who donate. I have a rare blood group so it was hard to find the match for me.

I wish I could give blood :(

Anyway my happy thought...

I went to the eye clinic at Addenbrookes' last week and was told there was nothing more they could do for my eyes but they would see if they could get me to their low vision clinic for more help (magnifiers that kind of thing).

I was told to expect a wait.

But I am going on Thursday, not a bad turn around at all.

1) My TV died. This isn't normally what I'd call a "Happy Thought", but the TV in question is a 11 year 28inch SD CRT. Full marks to Sony for building reliable TVs though.

I am happy because it gives me an excuse, nay, a reason to buy an HDTV.. :D

2) I've managed to achieve an awful lot at work today. Finally solved a problem that's been bugging me for days, which means I have nearly two thirds of the software I am in charge of deploying for the next academic year ready for testing now..

It's always satisfying to hear that someone appreciates what you can do. Even more so when the person speaking doesn't realise you can hear the compliment as then you can accept that his opinion is honestly held. :tu:

Well done Tosh! You must be over the moon, and deservedly so. :)

I should be over the moon too, as my blood pressure was 130/70 the lowest it has been in over a decade. The long awaited visit to the doctors was a complete washout. Not only was he not wearing aftershave, but his total appearance and attitude was a complete turnoff.
Can anyone please answer this question? My blood test showed I had inflamation, I was convinced I had arthritis in my hips as I am not able to walk any great distance without a great deal of pain. He moved both my legs up and down and back and forth and pronounced that not only did I not have arthritis, but that I had very little pain. Eh? How can he tell that? When I challenged him about having a scan, he got quite uppity and told me I didn't have arthritis and the scan would not reveal anthing different. As for the results for the thyroid (which I was unaware they were monitoring until two doctors ago) it was at 4 and apparently I shouldn't worry until it get up nearer 10. Next the blood pressure (before I had my blood pressure taken) I asked why, if I was taking 6 different tablet a day was my pressure still high. He said that it was not possible to control the BP in some people. He prescribed some ointment to rub on my hips, and I was out the door before you could say 'Bob's your Uncle'.
Thinks.......this is probably in the wrong thread.:dozey:

Ah Tinky what a horrible let down after he sounded so nice on the phone. You would have been better of with the nice thoughts of the phone call and left with your imagination of what he looked like rather the bad experience you had today.

Would make you wonder how he was so different to you on the phone with a really caring side to him to your visit today.

Dilli, Pauls9, Sasha, The Daddy, Nashville, LondonRoad and Tinky Thank You all so much :)

@ Tinky,
I'm wondering if the doctor you saw know's what he is doing !!!!,
yes your BP was better than you've said before so that must please you, as for him knowing you had 'no' pain or arthritis who did he think he was 'superman' with x-ray vision grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, if he is new to the practise you use Please ask to see another Dr that would know your case better, and also a scan or a bone density scan would show arthritis as would an x-ray as my previous scan's have shown.
it must be so frustrating not knowing the cause of the pain, also may i ask what the cream was he prescribed ?? and may i suggest trying a TeNs machine to help with pain control so you do not need more medication.

Tinky 30-06-2011 19:24

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Thank you Tosh and Sasha for your concern. I am still wondering how he could tell by prodding, that I didn't have arthritis, or that my pain was minimal. So it follows if someone broke their leg and the doctor felt it and said it wasn't broken, we have to take his word for it. :erm:
I am still of the opinion that once you reach a certain age, they just don't want to know. :( The gel he prescribed was Diclofenac Sodium topical 3%. He said he daren't prescribe tablets as I was already taking ones for my BP. I was not able to make an appoinment with the previous doctor I saw, because the waiting time was 3 weeks!!!! I'm losing faith in this surgery I have been with for over 30 years. My old doctor retired in April.

Sasha222 30-06-2011 19:28

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

I really do know how you feel as I have given up going to the doc for the same reason you have just went through today and now just take the pain killers when I get the pain back like I have in the last couple of days. Your right I think when we get to a certain age we are on the scrap heap where the doc's are concerned

Your Welcome.

Well i broke my leg in 3 places once and the ER dr that saw me said i had a bad sprain grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, he can't tell really, it seem's he does not want to spend the surgeries money on a scan, age should mean nothing as my mum is over 70 and has lot's of help and treatment of late. still make an appointment with the previous dr, I've been with my surgery all my life and i now live out of their catchment area

Yes it's a sad state of affairs Sasha. We have had two large housing complexes built in our local vicinity, in recent years and I don't think consideration was given on how to cope with the extra occupants with regards to schools, dentists, and doctors etc., (Again apolgies for wrong thread).

Sasha222 30-06-2011 19:41

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

I think even if that didn't happen with all the building going on like Tosh said It's about saving money and just not getting the right treatment that should be available.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

Dr's should not think of age's, they should think more of giving a service that improves a paitient's ability to cope with daily life.

Re: The Happy Thought Thread Part 4

@ Tosh. Well done I knew my Finger Crossing powers probably wouldn't be needed but had the vibes going just in case.

@Tinky. LOL what a let down though I did suspect Fancy Pants could be a let down in person. I was once mesmerised by a guy I used to speak to on the phone at least once a week. The other girls in my office reckoned he had the softest chocolate voice and the sexyist laugh they had ever come across and as a surprise invited him to my 21st birthday lunchtime drinks at a local pub. Was I glad I could introduce him to my new fiance. Boy was the dreamboat a let down. I have nothing against shorter men, my John is one, but when they think they are God's Gift to Women, come wrapped in a ton of lard and pints of cheap aftershave it's a real let down. :D

I know it's a long wait but get yourself booked in with another Doctor at the practice and go along armed with a pain diary. There are things that can be done and persistence wears down any resistance. Or at least that is what I have found when the medical profession has been tempted to think that I am a passive old lady who will go away and sit in a corner with my knitting.

My happy thought and feeling today is......................
I had a little chat with the other chap who was on my fork lift course this week before work this morning, and he started his extra training, I told him to relax and let thing's flow and not pause so much, and also gave him a couple of tip's, and he passed his practical test to with 33 penalty point's.
and the chap who'd been our instrutor came and said to me when he is in his office next week he will talk to his boss about the possibility of getting me trained as an instructor :D
