Am I right in thinking that if you have 3 recordings set to start at, say 9pm, and you're watching a different channel to the 3 selected to record, the default tivo action will be to switch the live TV channel to one of the channels needed to be recorded?

So you have to actively select to keep watching the different live channel and then let Tivo find a repeat recording of the 1 of the 3 recordings it cancels.

Just one more question on this, does Tivo actually tell you it has found a repeat recording before you decide to cancel 1 of the 3 planned recordings, so at least you know a rescheduled later recording is set up before you decide to keep watching live TV and so force 1 of the 3 planned recordings to be cancelled?

No, it won't tell you at the time of cancelling. It should appear in your planned recording later though.

OK, just have to trust there is a repeat recording available then for 1 of the 3 programmes. Should be of course especially out of 3 being recorded. Would be nice if it did tell you, so a potential feature enhancement request unless Tivo needs time to find and select the actual repeat recording?

That's pretty clever if when you stop the tuner switching over to the channel it needs for recording, tivo automatically goes and finds a repeat. I'd have though tivo would just think you didn't want the programme.

Same happens if the recording fails for any reason e.g power cut

The thing is, if you stick to 'PVR rules' ---- 'record everything, watch nothing live', that scenario wouldn't happen. :D

How people even think think about moving to Sky when Tivo does things like that, is beyond me! :D

Know what you mean but an example of this is watching the 10pm news so live is definitely the case then for us to get a summary of the days events, which means 2 tuners available at 10pm for recordings. Another example is when the kids are still up at 9pm and watching another channel before we get them to bed.

That said, we watch most programmes through recording now with V+ so the days of watching live TV is limited, especially with 3 tuners available now on Tivo!

I have to say that now have 3 tuners on Tivo our viewing has become a lot easier as we used to use catch up and we have not used it since getting Tivo. Also in regards to this when you set up a series link, it is like a set and forget setting on a tumble dryer. Just my thought on this in lay-mans terms.

The fact that Tivo actively goes and finds alternative recording times is excellent!

But not across 3 concurrent recordings, how could I survive with just 1!
