I've noticed recently, when using TiVo search, just how often some programmes are actually repeated over the space of 7 days. If you miss a programme on popular channels, you'll often be able to catch it again really soon either on the same channel, or a sister station.

Some examples:

Neighbours is shown on Channel 5 at 1:45pm then repeated at 5:30pm. It's also repeated on 5* at 3:00pm and 7:00pm.

The Gadget Show is broadcast on Channel 5 on a Monday night, and gets repeated on a Tuesday on 5*.

Emmerdale and Coronation Street are repeated each night, about 4 hours after being broadcast, on ITV2.

The Cafe is shown on SKY1 on a Wednesday and gets repeated on a Friday on SKY1, a Saturday on SKY2 and then again on a Monday on SKY1.

Match Of the Day is shown on BBC1 on a Saturday night and gets repeated on a Sunday morning again on BBC1.

All WWE programming gets about 3 outings accross the various SKY Sports channels each week.

Whilst +1 channels would add value, taking time out to check if and when a programme will be repeated can be just as effective. Most popular programmes do get repeated, sometimes more than once. If you are prepared to be a little flexible with your viewing habits, you should catch almost everything you want to watch. This can at times also include movies. I think American Pie 3 has been on SKY1 and SKY2 about 10 times in the past 14 days. I'm sure ITV is currently repeated every James Bond movie at least once. Goldfinger was on last Saturday and then again on the Sunday.

Just look for Two & a Half Men on Comedy Central and you see how many times a programme is repeated ;)

Several channels repeat programmes throughout the day but if you are only in a position to view TV in the evening, for example, that only counts as one airing.

One could argue that it makes more sense for the carrier (e.g. VM, Sky etc.) to store most programmes for a short period (e.g. 24 hours, 48 hours or 7 days) rather than multiple customers duplicating the process by recording them on their PVR or TiVo boxes. The latter facilities are better suited to longer-term storage of programmes, series, sporting events or movies. Some on here have suggested that all TV should be On Demand and that there is no future in linear programming but that may be taking things too far, at least for now.

Given VM's emphasis on their TiVo and broadband technologies it's surprising that we haven't heard more about IPTV this year.

Yes, CBS Action launches on 13 December. Pity we still don't have any positive news about CBS Drama.

TiVo will be a hybrid IPTV OTT provider outside the cable area.

Virgin Media has announced it will be a guaranteed customer, alongside UK broadband provider TalkTalk, to provide Fujitsu with the commitment it needed to justify the investment. This will enable Virgin Media to compete across a further 20 percent of UK homes initially, with the help of its TiVo box, in effect as a hybrid IPTV/OTT provider outside its footprint.

You have misread what that says its not Tivo that is a hybrid, it will be using IPTV technology to deliver its services outside its footprint area.
